While Aldi's isn't in my regular rotation for food shopping, there are things I buy yearly from Aldi's- mostly holiday items. Aldi pumpkins are the most affordable around. I always end up buying 4 every year and they are literally half the price of any other store. They also have inflatable decorations on sale right around the holiday time. I've bought several over the years but the key is to go to the store on the first day of their weekly sales, otherwise you may be out of luck. read more

The good: I got strawberry fruit popsicles here, granola, and some Wicked Grove alcoholic ciders. The ciders were delicious and came with 4 flavors and weren't too sweet. I liked all 4 flavors and liked that you could buy them individually as well rather than in a variety pack in bulk. The store reminds me of Grocery Outlet because they have a random aisle of household goods that changes products frequently. The parking lot was spacious. Their prices are great. The bad: The granola had an old oil taste. It wasn't the first time that I felt like Aldi's nuts tasted a bit old. Bummed as this Aldi used to be great. Used to do the bulk of my shopping here, especially for produce. Go to the W Escondido location. It's way better. Over the years I've noticed more and more of the products are damaged or spoiled. The produce quality isn't great anymore. Everything's either mushy, moldy, or unripe. Even when it's in season and restocked. I've noticed mold on the meats and cheeses several times now. Even when they are not past the printed dates. I went in to purchase manchego cheese a bit ago and every single one in the box had mold. None past the printed date. Recently saw mold on sliced cheese and charcuterie meats. Again, none past the printed date. Prior to noticing this, I got sick after eating cheese cubes from here. I got spoiled milk from here that wasn't past the printed date as well. read more

Any friends shopping at Aldi? Check your milk. I've been very curious why I've had horrible stomach cramps and all the other fun stuff that goes along with food poisoning. I decided to take a closer inspection of my milk from Aldi which correlated with the same time my issues started yesterday. Milk smelled horrible. How I didn't notice before pisses me off. lol I may have been saving a little money there but definitely not enough. Management really needs to better watch their store. Great budget grocery store. While not my usual go to grocery store, sometimes it's easier to run by and grab the basic items needed on my way home from errands. I've definitely picked up the winking owl wines for for cooking and they work just as well as your usual budget wines from other competitors. read more

This is an average Aldi, although larger than most. The exterior is inviting, and there's plenty of parking. Produce and Meat departments are smaller than average for an Aldi. Over the years I've gotten used to ALDI's Soviet-bloc shopping experience. So this coronavirus b.s. is really no different here.. The prices are very good for decent quality. My faves are their refrigerated pizzas, flatbreads, and calzones. They also sell coke energy at a decent price. - Trader Joe's sells generic products with enticing design and marketing. ALDI sells generic products designed by two guys from Bulgaria. - If you've never been to Aldi before you will probably not like the experience. No employees to be found and surly cashiers, and you have to bag your groceries on table behind the cashier. Management is incredibly rude and disrespectful. I came here with my family and was denied entry with our service dog. The Manager was rude and condescending and kept talking over me saying she wanted to see a doctor's letter for the service dog. I explained that by law this wasn't required by the American's Disability Act (ADA) and we didn't have to show her such personal information. When I tried to show her the law, she was condescending and said "If it isn't a personal letter she didn't want to see it". She claimed to have the right to refuse service and asked us to leave. She refused to give us her name because she "Didn't feel like it" and when I asked for corporate she said I could find it myself. I'm appalled that Aldi's would tolerate this form of discrimination in any of their stores! When I told her we'd be reporting this because she was violating our rights she said we could go ahead and shop but if the dog had an accident I'd clean it myself. Our dog is trained and this wouldn't have been an issue but we were humiliated by how disrespectful the Management treated us. If this is the representation you want for Aldi's... we'll take our business elsewhere. read more

Low food supplies. Low variety of food. Have to pay to use shopping carts. Have to bag own groceries. It's not pleasant

I recently moved into this neighborhood and I have heard a lot about Aldi since, I came to this store for the first time two weeks ago. You have to put in a quarter in order to retrieve a shopping cart and you will get it back when you are done and return the cart. This is a way to make sure the carts are returned to where they belong, which is less work for the employees. The store has mainly off brand products, but that doesn't mean they are not good quality. Similar to when you go to big warehouses or when you shop at Walmart/ Target where they have their own store brand for you. I was trying to do a DIY project and wanting to go to home depot/ lowes to buy some paint and paint brushes, but Aldi sells paint and paint brushes too!!!!!!!!! SAY WHAT??? My first visit was a win! :) To my surprise, they do not bag your groceries either and they scan your items really quickly. There is this area by the entrance/ exit, where all the customers bag their own groceries. I actually think the concept is very smart, they save money on having someone to organize the shopping carts outside and wasting valuable time or holding up the line to bag groceries. read more

I'm at my last stop of the day. After coming to Aldis on Monday night, I purchased $240.00 worth of Christmas gifts. One of the Christmas gifts was a wine advent calendar. Upon further examination, apparently that was the wrong gift to purchase (per the recipient). Even though the box has not been opened, and it is in pristine condition, they "cannot return alcoholic beverages." Let's clarify, I didn't order a martini and send it back. I bought a $70.00 wine advent calendar. This is the condition that I just took it in to be returned (see photos). And while Aldi may have their policies, customers do too. So far, Walmart is still your safest bet. Everybody's looking out for themselves, Aldi is very much included in that. So the $70.00 wine advent calendar that I purchased by mistake is now mine. Probably a good thing, because shopping at Aldi's does make one want to consume large quantities of alcoholic beverages. Keep up the great work Aldi! But, don't forget, you're not the only store in town. The stuff you're selling is only one step above the dollar store. I won't ever give you my business, again, and I'll NEVER refer anyone here. You made it clear that you don't need my business. Maybe I should think "Temecula" and not "Escondido." This city is trash, and so are the businesses. read more

I'm surprised San Diego doesn't have a lot of Aldis to be honest. I grew up in a poor family and as such we did a good amount of shopping at Aldis so I'm fully aware of what I'm going to see, but in case you're not here we go. Aldi is a generic brand grocery store. What I mean by this is most of what they sell is their own store brand. You need a quarter to borrow a cart as it forces you not to be lazy and return it back to the store. One of the ways Aldi saves money is by hiring the barest minimum of people and heck you can't even call a store directly (I'm serious). Realize that the food they sell isn't usually the healthiest. You want healthy off brand food? Go to Trader Joe's; same family but better products (and frankly a better price). So why, you may ask, after knowing all of this would I drive here? Chocolate mint cookies aka generic thin mints. They taste 95% like the Girl Scout variety and this store has 3 generic girl scout varieties (peanut butters, samoas, and thin mints). They're on the left hand side about 4 feet down after you enter. Costs less than $1.50 a container! The produce section was well stocked but the produce was under ripe or molded. I bought the worlds most sour raspberries here that I don't even think sugar would save. The lettuce was gross looking. The meat (which everyone raves about due to the price) was bloating in the packages. A package of chicken in particular was so bad my husband was afraid to touch it and just said "that's a great way to get food poisoning". I would have to agree with him on that one. It wasn't just one package either, several of them looked questionable. The rest of the store was just okay. Some stuff was all jumbled and that's to be expected when they have like 1 maybe 2 people working and they're both on the registers. The cashier was an emotionless robot just like everyone else has mentioned, but again can you blame them? I have tried a few of their brand of products. The thin mint cookies and the blackberry fruit spread is amazing and I'll come back just for those, but most of it is bad. The worst is the teriyaki pork jerky. It tasted like rotten fish and my husband actually returned it. Which by the way trying to return something to any Aldi is a terrible experience and I don't recommend it. If you buy a lot of packaged foods and that is what you eat. Yeah you'll probably save a few bucks shopping here. If you're trying to be healthier I'd recommend Trader Joe's (which some of their stuff was actually cheaper!). If you are good in the kitchen and want better produce I recommend you drive across the street to Vallarta Supermarket. Their produce selection is AMAZING, was all fresh, their meat was cheap/fresh, and who doesn't want fresh tortillas? So to wrap it up. It's an Aldi store folks, you can't expect much, and this one lived up to that standard. Just because you make it look fancy with the updated Aldi design doesn't mean it's a good thing. read more

Aldi is in Escondido, yay! Now I don't have to drive to Vista anymore, since that was the closest location to me previously. This is a good place for fans of the now defunct Fresh & Easy. If you are willing to take a chance on unknown European brand products, there are a lot of good choices here. It is similar to Trader Joe's, in that it has a limited selection of products in categories like baking, pasta, etc. If you buy specialty products here, you can use use the larger markets to fill in the blanks. The good categories that have great choices: cheese & meat, salad mixes, chocolate & nuts, crackers & cookies, pre-made things like crab cakes & chicken salad, and European items like spaetzel or marzipan. Yes, you have to bring your own bags and bag it yourself on the shelf after you pay. And yes, you have to put in a quarter to get a cart, but you get it back when you chain up the cart. Stop whining. This is behind IHOP, at the back of the lot now that they've torn out the old buildings that were there previously. It is across from Vallarta, and near the Walmart small grocery only store. One block away is Albertsons, so there are tons of choices now within a half-mile. It would be 5 stars if it had just a little more selection of European items. read more

Been here a few times. I like their selection and size. Not too big, not too small. They offer reasonably priced food and are definitely trying to gain market share from Albertson's, Vons and Ralphs. With flyers and coupons to get people in, I think for the most part, people are happy that there is a new place to visit in town. Parking is simple and the place is clean. Staff are friendly and lines are always open. They are not understaffed like most grocery stores, which I like. You find what you need, pay and be on your way. Thanks Aldi for opening up near by. Just wish, they had more of a selection on alcohol. Maybe, they didn't want too much to offer, as BevMo is right next door. read more

I go to Aldi for fresh seafood but I am not going back to this branch. Trea-Von was very rude and would not even answer question about bags (nothing left on his aisle) properly. I have heard for years about how awesome Aldi is from my out-of-state relatives and was pleased to see when I moved back to the San Diego area that there are now several local locations, the closest to me being this E. Valley Pkwy location. I noticed a lot of reviews mention the weird system like the bagging table and the quarter to get a cart, and the limited selection, but these features are what help keep Aldi's prices so low! They don't stock a bunch of unneccesary products people that most people won't buy like a conventional grocery store does and they don't have to employ such a large staff since they only stock the essentials and don't need people to go outside and chase carts all day. Anyway, once I got used to this system Aldi quickly became my favorite grocery store. The prices are literally mind-boggling low and they have new sales every week. For example, I got my Thanksgiving ham here for $10 less than Costco! And it was the same size, same spiral sliced and included the glaze packet just like the Costco one! Eggs, dairy, and produce are by far the cheapest in town, meat is a hit or miss depending on the sale, but when it's a hit it's a BIG hit. So stock up and freeze when they have meat sales. I really appreciate that they have a gluten-free line since I have celiac disease, and their prices, except for the gluten free bread, are about half of what I'd pay at other stores. I also really enjoy all the little trinkets they sell near checkout, whether it's a very durable, high-quality grocery bag or a cute keychain-shaped quarter holder so you always have a quarter for the cart. As far as the employees at this location, some are helpful and friendly, some aren't, but I'm just here for the food so I could really care less. This will always be my first stop when grocery shopping and they've successfully stolen me from the Grocery Outlet fan club. read more

We were excited to check this place out: The Good-- 1. They do offer alluring prices on items. But alluring enough for us to make the haul here every week? Maybe not. 2. Their fresh produce looked pretty good. But they make no mention of where it's from. 3. Maybe because it's still new this store is spanking clean. 4. Service was courteous if scant. 5. They have covered sliding glass doors protecting their freezer foods. Nice. 6. They offer plenty of free parking. The Bad-- 1. Their parking lot has a hill in it. This caused the full cart of another car to come crashing into the side of my hubby's sedan leaving a double dent. The cart came crashing so hard we thought we'd been plowed into by another car. They post no signs to warn anyone of their hill. The man whose cart hit us was full of apologies but clearly unable to pay for the damage. We let him go. I'm just glad it wasn't his baby's stroller that came crashing into us. 2. They charge you .25 cents to borrow a cart. Your quarter is refunded if you remember to return the cart. Saves them hiring cart people in their lot but also contributed to our car being dented. 3. They post no phone number to reach their store no matter what. So you're lost on the road because Yelp directions are off? To bad for you--you're on your own. You think you may have left your credit card there or maybe dropped an earring in the store? Suck it up. Don't even think of trying to call them. 4. They post a shivering unlucky employee right outside their front doors beside their locked up carts for no discernible reason. What's up with that? Is she supposed to teach people how to insert their quarter to get a cart? Just post a detailed sign. And while you're at it leave a message to warn of the hill that will drive loaded carts into the side of our cars. 5. Their meat department was depressing to view. I'll be attaching a number of photos to this review. They're worth the view. Overall, we'll be back in if we happen to be in the area. Trader Joe's is a much more upbeat experience with prices just about as good. No hills it their parking lots either. Big Tip: Beware the robot woman on Yelp directions guidance when you first try to find this store. She will send you across the other street and over to Walmart instead. Affordable prices for the same name brand food! I never knew about this place until a friend recommended it. I'm typically not a fan of off brand/store brand food and products, but this place has definitely changed my mind. Well, their products anyway! For example, they have macadamia nuts for $10 here.. and it's a HUGE JAR! Out in town it would cost probably close to $20! I usually spend $100+ on the same amount of food and other items that I bought here for $40! I can't wait until the new Aldi in Mira Mesa/Sorrento Valley opens up. read more

It's a good Aldi location, not as large and well-stocked as the Vista location but significantly better than many locations in the East. I found a number of great special buys that I took advantage of. Like all Aldi's they offer great prices on all the staple items. Wished there was one in Rancho Bernardo. read more

I love the design of the store. They keep the store and the parking lot super clean, the efficiency of the bring a quarter grocery cart system helps keep the costs down low, and keeps the parking lot free of wandering carts. I have never found a shopping cart blocking a parking spot or bumping into my vehicle - because everyone puts their shopping cart away. IF you don't want to evolve to a more efficient system by making sure you have a quarter handy - you might this inconvenience something to complain about - that's fine - spend 50% more on your groceries somewhere else. The prices are amazing here - and when they have a coupon in the weekly mailer ($40 minimum purchase) it is actually difficult to spend $40 - because you can fill your cart for $35. I love ice cream and they have PREMIUM Ben n Jerry's quality (similar labeling but does not show the name brand) ice cream that is only 1.99 a pint - and it is super yummy. They also have amazing chocolate quality that tastes like you are in switzerland. Try their Choceur brand chocolate!!! - I am usually a dark chocolate fan - but their milk chocolate with raisins and nuts or their hazelnut varieties are so amazing. Grocery staples like meat, dairy (milk, cheese, eggs, yogurt and ice cream), fruits and vegetables, bread, cereal, and snacks are all store brand and about 50 - 60% of the cost of a typical grocery store. Oh and their avocados are the cheapest that you will find anywhere! Not a lot of selection, but that is how they make it efficient and cost savings. Everything I have bought is almost always their storebrand - which is totally comparable to the major name brand - I have never had a freshness issue with any product except once with a basket of rasberries. One weird observation - I believe the store is solar powered - (yayy for the environment), but it seems to produce an unusual amount of static and if I hold my shopping cart handle with both hands - about every few steps I get a nice little static shock into my hands. Almost all of my primary grocery shopping is now at ALDI for a year now. - and the cashiers are friendly enough. Never found anyone rude or disrespectful - the workers have all been good quality. read more

Ok, so this is my new favorite grocery store! I literally got 3 weeks of food for $115. Seriously! We normally spend about $400-600ish on groceries a month. They have a really good variety to choose from. Off brands are no different than name brands. Just savin mo chedda I also love that you need a quarter to get a shopping cart. When you're done putting your groceries in your car, take your cart back, lock the cart back to the one behind it, and voila you get your quarter back! The reason I love this is because there isn't carts all over the parking lot, ready to hit your car. This place is always clean, I try and go in the morning-less people. When you check out, the cashier will scan all your items then put them back in your cart. There is a huge long counter in the front of the store where you can bag your items...out of the way. Three and a half stars Received a coupon in the mail, thanks Aldi $5. Off! The store feels like a Euro store for those that have shopped in Europe. I asked at check out where the store originated.... Deutschland! Prices seemed good but quality and variety lacking. Ice cream selection all low grade. Bought enough for my $30. Min. Pork chops in a package one good one on top and lesser quality of cuts as you went down to bottom chops. One on the bottom was gross bloody. Everything seems too packaged, institutionalized and different. Employees seem kinda un happy. Checker was at least. Store is neat and organized. The $0.25 deposit for cart is a good idea. I like full service grocery. Ummm maybe only 3 stars. Hopefully all stores will lessen packaging and save resources and our earth. Aldi sets the packaging bar that's for sure. Lol read more

This place is so bizarre. First you need a quarter to use a shopping cart, I asume you get it back, when you return the cart. Second, the checkout has no place to bag your groceries!! The cash register is at the end of the checkout!! From the looks of thing, you take your grocery's over to the wall, where a table is, and bag them there. The store is nice and clean, with plenty of parking. So if you can figure out the bizarre system, then this place is for you. read more
