Great little local farm stand! Four stars for the organic and homegrown local produce, minus one star for no longer carrying gluten-free baked goods and the prices. You definitely get what you pay for because of how good the quality produce ($7 for a pint box of apricots and $30 for a length of 10 braided garlic, which were hand braided). I'd definitely go in the beginning of the picking season because they tend to get a little sparse near the end of it, which is understandable as they source from local growers in the area at the whim of nature's weather patterns. The employees are normally really nice and very helpful. It does get hot in the summer, but the store front is covered, and there is normally ample parking very close by, so being out in the heat is minimized. read more

We stopped by to pick up some farm fresh tomatoes. I was thinking of the grown in the field type but they had hydroponic tomatoes. I paid a lot for the 1 large tomato($8), but it was tasty. The roadside stand was tidy and service was good. I was hoping for more variety of fresh veggies. I will try again next time in the area. read more

Their strawberries are the strawberriest I've ever tasted in a while. You can never go wrong with local fresh organic fruit. The navel oranges! I know CA has some oranges, but the ones they sold here were ridiculously addicting. Be careful if you have a glucose problem because they were sweeeeet. The stand also makes fresh juice and sells them by the gallon. Yum! They've partnered up with a bakery that makes gluten free breads. They make sandwiches and pizza. Hubby ordered the pepperoni cheese pizza and had it cooked there. It was nice and hot. All the herbs and spices baked in the gluten free dough came through nicely. The ladies that were running the stand were super knowledgeable and friendly. I'll be checking out their other stand for their weekly festivities. read more

Love this little place and referring people to it when they come visit. They're closed for the season right now but am hoping they re-open soon and bring back the Deanna's gluten free bread products and delicious burger grill! I didn't even know they had burgers and I live a block away. We would have come in every week for lunch had I known! I wish this spot would expand or grow a bit, what about getting into wine or beer tasting co-events with others - what about delivering burgers and charcuterie TO the local wineries, none of them have kitchens? Or offer a breakfast burrito/coffee drive-thru for all the commuters on the 78 fwy. I have a ton of ideas to stay in business year round. Fran's Farm Original Stand is family and operated and they actually farm in Escondido. I like to buy/support local as often as I possibly can. They grow most of what they sell; farm fresh and pesticide free. They harvest daily. Some of the produce comes from other local farmers (love it) with similar farming philosophies so again, it is all local home grown produce. The customer service was excellent. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. We (including dog) were greeted and welcomed as soon as we approached the stand. We were offered samples and a brief history of the stand/farm. The family has been farming for three generations, pretty neat! They have seasonal produce offered year-round so the harvest is ever changing. More reason to return again and again! Call or check the website to see what's "new" and what samples are being offered. There is a rather small pumpkin patch behind the stand. Take a wheelbarrow and pick/cut your very own pumpkin/s. Do not leave without sampling the produce and orange juice. The orange juice is delicious. I really enjoyed the Pomegranate Orange Juice. The blend was just right...Pomegranate & Valencia Orange. It is juiced daily. Make sure to check out their other stand a few miles away (Farm Stand West- 2115 Miller Avenue). read more

I absolutely love this place. I have a gluten allergy and they have so many great items that they sell that are gluten-free. They will even make on site a gluten-free pizza that is so delicious. What also makes this place such a great experience is that every single person who works there is so kind and sweet. From the guy who makes all the pizzas and sandwiches to all the people who take your order and help you out. The owner of this location understands customer service by hiring the absolute sweetest people ever. They have a nice bench there if you want to sit and eat outside. Wonderful little place to pick up fresh, local produce! There is a variety of gluten free bakery items. Tons of samples- the peaches were so sweet and juicy!! We used a wheelbarrow to go out and pick our own pumpkins out ! They let us use shears to cut them right off the vine! I finished my visit with a shot of pomegranate juice on the house! As an occasional visitor to the Escondido area I have passed by Fran's Farm Stand many times over the last decade, most times it seemed that the farm stand was closed, my aunt, who lives in the area, had the same impression. But within the last year or so, it seems that Fran's has come alive. The namesake of Fran's died a half dozen years ago, but it's just recently that the stand is really making a stand (sorry). Don't get me wrong, Fran's still sells its (mostly) pesticide free and locally grown fruits and veggies, it just feels like there's a new energy behind the counter. Kay and Trish are the women at the front of Fran's renaissance and have put a wonderful new feel to all the already classic local produce stand. You may have noticed the new signs along the roadway, or maybe the new events (for kids and adults) or maybe you've noticed that there just seem to be more people stopping by to see what's going on. Kay says that it's the oranges and tomatoes that Fran's is best known for, but they have myriad other treats and tastes, like their fresh squeezed juices (you must try the pomegranate/orange juice) or the pumpkin patch during the fall season. I recently enjoyed their dried persimmon, delicious. I've never stopped by without being offered a free sample of something or other, a great way to try something new. By way of history, Fran's has been farming the local Escondido area since the early 1920s and we all know that buying local is good for the consumer and good for the farmer. Fran's might not have quite as much variety as your local big chain grocery store, but the food is fresher, pesticide free and you're supporting local business, which always makes it taste better. There is another Fran's Farm Stand (2115 Miller Avenue, Escondido, near the 15 freeway) which is bigger and a little more centrally located, but it's worth the drive to this Fran's if for no other reason than to meet Kay's potbelly pig, Buttercup, she's there every Thursday. Decent selection and fun to have a local farm stand right down the street from our house, but was pretty disappointed to find almost no organic selections of fruits and veggies. To boot, prices are more expensive that organic produce from Jimbos, which doesn't really hang together. I ended up paying $13 for a watermelon my daughter refused to part with. My wife was surprised at the prices too. Great staff, very sweet and helpful! Sometimes they have little farm stand get together events for kids which are awesome and fun. Highly recommend for those events. Organic farm direct produce, not so much. read more

I stop in at least five days a week so I always have the freshest vegetables. I can not say enough good things about Fran's original farm stand. I love sweet corn and they care for it better than anyplace in town. When it is delivered to the stand it goes into the walk-in cooler and ice is heaped on it. Cold prevents the naturals sugars from turning to starch. I grew up on a farm in the midwest and consider myself an expert :-) Please try the stand, ask questions they are always glad to help. They grow much of their own produce and the rest is locally sourced. Please give them a try, you will not be disappointed. Be sure to feed the baby goats :-) read more

Wow! What a hidden gem. We stopped by yesterday on the way home from the Safari Park and left with some delicious lettuce, tomatoes, pomegranates, and persimmons.
