A 9 pc family basket with spuds feeds a family of 4 just fine! (2 adults and 2 young kids) Call ahead to order as it will take 20 minutes or so. The spuds are amazing! I have to hide the spuds from the kids!! We don't really care for deep fried chicken breast; I find the breast rather dry. The owner was very accommodating in using only dark meat. So after hearing about this place on the news and having the chicken at sunshine I decided to try Ralph's. The chicken and taters were horrible. The taters tasted like they were cooked in burnt oil. The chicken not only dry but also had a milder taste of burnt oil. I was disappointed in this place because of the hype. I came for the chicken. I stayed for the chicken. If you're not from around here, I wouldn't come here for any other reason. The store itself isn't much to look at. It feels overly crowded and suffers from dim lighting. All that aside, based on the friendliness witnessed between the staff and regular customers, I would say it is a good store. With that kind of interaction I can see why locals like it here. The chicken was pretty good but it didn't live up to the hype. The batter was well seasoned which was surprising but the meat was a little dry. If made fresh, I could see it being much better. I was impressed with the wedges as they were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Probably the best I've had within the "convenience store wedges" category. Went in there last night for a quick fix and you wouldn't believe it- apparently Ralph doesn't give out handi's. Unbelievable.

Best convenience store fried chicken in Edmonton. Many years ago I was starving artist, living in the Strathearn Apartments just down the street from Ralph's and it was then I discovered the magic chicken. Seriously... I live on the other side of town, and once in a while the siren call of crisp, delicious fried chicken will lure me into the old neighbourhood. I have friends who grew up here, and the Ralph's chicken mojo is strong with them. I have been eating it 30 years, and it has not changed. You can also get spuds, which are also pretty good, but feel like empty carbs next to the Magic Chicken. Your quest does have some trials, however... There is a small window when one can find the chicken, as they focus on the dinner trade. People can arrive in groups, but if you have to wait for the next batch, there is a funky, old time hobby shop next door. I find the best Chicken Procuring hours are between 4:30 and 7PM, though I have scored as late as 8. If they served the chicken until closing, I would go 5 stars. Very rude , no customer service, and extremely over priced if you have a question about any product they sell an try to inquire about it you are immediately yelled at and put down. Very Very judgmental owner an staff would suggest you stay clear of this business at all costs. Best fries in all of Edmonton, perfect amount of seasoning and crispiness. The chicken is also way better then restaurant quality.
