I been to this store for a long time for many many years. (30+) I like the produce and quality of stuff there. But today annoy me was a cashier coughing towards the stuff I purchased. It made me worry. So I decided not going there at this critical time anymore. But I still love the store. read more

For parts of the store I shopped for was fine. However, we bought dry ice. The clerk told us it might be over a little. Well, the block turned our to be 2.19 lbs and was put on the scale with 2 bags. At $7.97 per pound, the cost was $17.45. I called Safeway in Concord and their cost is $2.99 per pound. So are Raley's costs that much higher, or just a rip-off. I will never shop at Raley's again. Here's why: Thursday me and my 13 year old twins stopped in for some items for dinner. As I'm shopping my girls tell me " we are going to go get a cookie from the bakery." OK with me as I'm in the area selecting packages of turkey. I see my girls walk away from the bakery counter whispering to each other and immediately I say "what happened?" They turn toward me to explain "the lady at the counter told us that these cookies are for little kids only and that we should not ask for them anymore." My blood pressure rises. I ask my girls to show me the "lady" and I use that word loosely as I'd be more on target to describe her as an uptight cookie nazi - but whatever, my girls point her out. I walk to the cookie bitch in the bakery and shove my basket toward her telling her " i will do my shopping at Safeway where my kids can have a cookie for the asking..." I tossed this review around in my head for a while before writing it b'cuz I wondered if I was being petty - I mean after all its just a cookie, right? But as the old saying goes "its about principal" - so I wrote the damn review. While true, it is just a cookie its also the fact that there are no guidelines to cookie distribution. My girls are polite and have manners and damn it if I'm paying 15.00 (or more) for a 12-pack of beer I think the least you can do is kick my girls down a cookie without your rude ass attitude. I could see if my girls walked up and said "give me a cookie bitch" - I'd say no - but that was not the case. I'd rather shop at Winco where the produce is bad but the cookies are flowing or Safeway where I shop over budget but don't have to deal with cookie nazis. Raley's is great!! By far beats boring,mediocre Safeway. They have a great overall selection of food,ect.. Particularly there health food section.Everything from Organic food,low carb/low sugar foods,health and fitness DVDs and a broad selection of top quality vitamins and herbs. The store is always kept immaculately clean,bright,well organized and the service for the most part, is always very friendly and helful.They have particular items that I cannot get elsewhere and most of there brands / items are of a higher quality.That goes with the overall store.So much better than Safeway. read more

I like this store and I would give it 4 stars except I CAN"T handle FLIES!! I went to the deli to but turkey meat (there's is so good) and the lady helping me had to constantly fight off the flies that had been perched on the scale awaiting their feast. I watched to make sure one of the three didn't land on my turkey. Once I walked away I realized that I am sure they had already walked all over the turkey because the display case is open and the flies could just fly on in. Also the lines for the deli are just a mass of people and whoe ever speaks up first gets helped. I wish there was more organization of this. Tried to get a latte from the coffee counter at Raleys, but none of the people working the coffee counter knew how to make anything. They could only pour plain coffee. This was at 9:00 am on a Monday morning. Raleys has gone downhill lately as this just reinforces my feeling about it. I have shopped here for years,but think it's time to change stores. I am so disappointed in this store and it's manager! I am handicapped and had my food order done by internet for delivery. I ordered a sandwich for my tonight's dinner. When I received my groceries, I opened my sandwich to eat it for dinner. The bread is hard as a rock, like it has been sitting out for 2 to 3 days. I called the store, spoke with the manager and he refunded the price of two sandwiches. I explained that this was a delivery but he was unwilling to send me another sandwich. What is up with how crowded the aisles are at this Raley's? I couldn't figure out why I always I felt so irritated after shopping here until I stepped back and really looked at the place. Seriously, there is not a singe aisle here where one grocery cart can pass another one because of all the extra displays set up in every .single. one. As a result, it feels like I'm always in someone's way or they are in mine no matter how many others are shopping at any given moment. I counted up to 4 cardboard displays in some aisles & of course, they are usually set up right in front of what I need to get. The alcoholic beverage displays have practically taken over the meat/cheese/deli dept. I like some good hooch as much as the next gal, but not when it becomes an obstacle course to get some chicken breasts. I have even taken the smaller carts to alleviate this problem. It made no difference what-so-ever. In fact, I have hit wine bottles & knocked them into a shattered mess on at least 3 occasions here. Never have this problem anywhere else, so I'm pretty sure it's not me. Here's an idea: Take out the seasonal section with furniture and household decorations and make all of the aisles little wider. Then, DON'T use the extra space for displaying potato chips & cookies. People come to Raley's for food, not for decorating their homes. Just a thought. read more

I always thought Raley's was one of my favorite local supermarkets (TJs would be the other), and maybe it still is--for some items. Historically, I have not been the one to do most of the grocery shopping so I didn't really pay much attention to pricing. I have always thought, and still do, that Raley's has a superior meat and produce section. For those 2 items, I would still prefer to shop here because they always seem very fresh and of good quality. They offer some less traditional meat choices as well, such as bison and lamb, and a small organic selection. Hands down, they beat Safeway, which is equally expensive but of lower quality. For anything else though, I find myself feeling robbed. In fact, that's exactly the thought that flashed through my mind the last time I shopped here with the BF. Having just been to Winco a week earlier, Winco prices were still fresh in my mind. Sliced deli pastrami - Raley's $12/lb ; Winco $6/lb Fried chicken wings from the deli - Raley's $1.03/pc ; Winco $.048/pc Winco is not my favorite place to shop either but the above price differences really stood out for those items, especially since I didn't see any significant difference in quality. Also, I was very displeased to see that all their gallon organic milk was expired by 3 days. At these prices, I expected more from them. I'll still go to Raley's for meat & produce but for anything else, I'd probably prefer FoodMaxx or Winco. P.S. It is nice that they offer to cart your stuff to your car for you. P.P.S. The best part of this store is the Meat Department. It is always clean and has the freshest meat and seafood. There is no blood dripping out of that roast package you want to buy for dinner. There is no blood mess in the refrigeration under the meat. Check it out. It's clean! Raley's sells Choice Angus beef. For those that don't know it, Choice is the best meat you can get! I have to say something about the Seafood too. It's fresh and there is no stinky seafood smell marking lack of freshness in the air. How could I forget? They also will season or marinade your meat any way you like it.....for free! Yes they will! They have plenty of seasonings for you to pick from. This Raleys has the best fried chicken in town. Get to the counter around 5 pm because that's when the new batch comes out of the fryer. My mom said that they make the chicken from scratch...no frozen Swanson's stuff here! The meat, especially the beef, at Raleys is really top quality...best place to buy tri-tip, but wait until it goes on sale, then stock up your freezer. Everything else at Raleys is like Safeway down the street. The prices are about the same and there is a better selection of specialty and organic groceries. The staff is really nice too...totally LOVE having someone to unload my groceries at checkout and to help me load bottle water into my car. read more

I have been shopping here my entire life and it's a shame to see it go downhill like it has. Recently purchased groceries and the clerks, who chain smoke on the side, bagged the groceries. My car reeked of smoke and now my house. I know the store has issues with theft, however they still can't seem to get a handle on working with APD or security, and keeping the shelves stocked. I have been a Raley's customer for decades. Last few months same complaint. RUDE poorly trained clerks/checkers/baggers. I checked out about 7:03AM only customer in line. Never got basic hello or hi. End of transaction never go so much as a thank you. WTH is wrong with Ralety's that they can not train their employees to give standard-basic courtesy. This store is in desperate need of remodeling. But what I find most frustrating, is the Deli. The sandwich board list like 5 different breads, but this deli only provides one or two varieties on a good day. I've purchased sandwiches at Raley's all over Northern California, and have never been forced into using one type of bread??? But every time I hit this one, they try and force their cheapest and only bread on me. What type of deli offers one bread type??? I have had to use Raley's delivery service more often because I have a special needs person at home that doesn't like to go grocery shopping. The delivery service has improved so much! I had joined Shipt and don't even use them anymore (Raley's now uses Shipt drivers to deliver the orders now), which is great because there used to be a lot of problems with the driver's. The shoppers are also now texting while they shop and ask you questions if there is something that is out and give you a chance to pick something else (it used to be that you would get nothing when your groceries showed up and I would have to go to the store anyways if it was something I really needed). I do use the "edit" section on items to leave notes to the shopper, and the notes stay there for each order which is convenient. The only reason for the 4 stars is that they started charging "per" apple and "per" banana, etc., and you will not always get the best expiration dates on your meat and other items. Tipping is also optional now (which is fine, but they should give you the option to add onto your order). read more

I like Raley's, but their food delivery service is ridiculously bad. They called to tell me that one item wasn't available and asked if I wished to substitute for that item I said "no". They did not tell me that the bread I ordered was not available, they simply did not deliver the bread. As a result, I received my lunch meat and cheese but no bread to make sandwiches with. Now I have to go to the store anyway to get sandwich bread. This is not the first time this has happened. It not only is inconvenient but it becomes a waste of money to try to get groceries delivered buy them. read more

Although the Staff are very helpful, the stocking of organic produce, eggs & meat is far below that of the Brentwood market. Perhaps it is lack of demand but the eggs are often near or at expiration date. The selection of organic produce is very small, e.g., rarely, organic potatoes, onions, shallots. read more

If thinking about using Raileys on line shopping you should reconsider. We ordered 3 pounds of potatoes, received 1 russet and 1 red potato. Ordered 2 pounds of ground beef, received 1 pound ( the clerk told us the store was all out. Went inside and found ground beef on the shelves). Ordered steaks, didn't receive any, the clerk told us the butcher hadn't cut any yet ( we picked up or order at 10:30 am). There were steaks available. This was a waste of time. read more

I went to the deli and tried their Bahn Mi Vietnamese sandwich. The staff although busy were friendly. Everyone waited at least 10-15 minutes for their sandwich! My sandwich was not authentic. The jalapenos were pickled... supposed to be fresh with seeds removed. Also, no sliced jicama added. They also don't have a toaster only a panini press. The meats although flavorful were not freshly cooked like a true Bahn Mi sandwich. Instead they use deli meats and heat them. Deli meats like ham were used... Very salty! Raley's, please don't call your sandwich a Bahn Mi unless you make it the traditional way. read more

I have to say... That the more I use this store the more I am conflicted as to fell that I hate it or love it. It's out of pure convenience as it's right around the corner from my house that I only use this place because the prices here are usually higher... Which doesn't make it so bad but it's the people that work here that suck. Now there are some nice people that work here granted but there are a few really bad apples that have a really crappy attitude about life in general and the way they talk to customers is just ridiculous. A short older guy with a mustache... is such a d*** to his customers! The lady in front of me by some marked down logs for fireplace and it rang up at the regular price and she said something about it and he just went off on her like it wasn't his problem and he didn't care and couldn't leave his register... You're a tool dude! It's people like you that make places like this a joke! Smh. On the other hand, some people here are super nice and engaging.
