Just when I thought Raleigh Orthopaedic couldn't get any worse, they proved me wrong today. I am almost 4 months post-op from a total left knee replacement and still have the same inflammation I had the week of surgery. Three weeks ago, I was there for X-rays to see if bone had grown into my tibial component, as there was a 2 mm gap between the component and the bone. At that visit, I was told they saw signs of bone growth. Today, I was told by Casey, Dr. McNabb's PA, that there is "no way to know" by looking at an X-ray. That is a drastic change from what I was told three weeks ago. When I questioned the inconsistency, I was told they had "retracted" what they told me originally. I was also told you cannot see bone growth on an X-ray; other surgeons do not agree with this. My recovery with Dr. McNabb and his PA has been terrible. I went to two other orthopedic surgeons, and both told me there is no bone growth and that the tibial component is possibly loose, showing this to me in detail on my imaging. Raleigh Orthopaedic either does not want to acknowledge this or is refusing to admit it -I honestly don't know. Because of this, we are now talking about a revision in the next few months with either UNC or Emerge Ortho, both of whom have been excellent at explaining everything clearly. I'm in my fifties, and this has been the worst experience I've ever had with a doctor. After surgery, I felt completely on my own. At one point, Dr. McNabb even told me that the physical therapy staff on the third floor "did not know what they were talking about." Bottom line: terrible experience. Get a second opinion. Saw Dr McNabb about hip pain. He was straight forward about what needed to be done and how it was going to get done. He was professional and explained the fix was hip replacement. He seemed knowledgeable and all business. We scheduled it and as the surgery date got closer I received calls and emails pertaining to surgery day and post op appointments. It seemed very efficient. For my pre op appointment I saw Dr McNabbs PA Casey Morea. She and her assistant made me feel like they were reading the company script to me. I was just another number. When I asked questions they were both extremely dismissive. It made want to walk out and cancel surgery. If my pain in my hip wasn't so bad I would have left. They both made me feel frustrated and uncomfortable. Not friendly at all. read more

Raleigh Orthopaedic on Edwards Mill is the main location and very large with three levels with an east and west wing. The surgery center is on the other side of the building. The parking lot is always full so it is a busy place. For those needing closer parking this could be an issue. When you arrive, the doctors are all listed and it will tell you which floor and wing you need. There are two elevators. The first level lobby has just one restroom but the second floor has more. I'm assuming the third floor is the same as the second. My appointments have not started at my appointment times at this location. I'm not sure if it is just my doctor or with this location as the other locations stay on schedule. The radiology techs may be good or bad depending who you get. On my last visit I wasn't even provided the leaded shield as "it wasn't much radiation". (Apparently shields aren't being used anymore in the industry) Then they are all not careful with my broken finger. I like my doctor and the majority of the staff but I will avoid the Edwards Mill location in the future as it is just too busy. Thankfully Raleigh Orthopaedic has several offices. read more

I agree with some of the reviews regarding the bills. They just send a link "pay now" with no details or explanation about what you're paying for! Payments were discussed prior to the MRI, however, the bill they sent me was completely different. When they sent me an email about the bill, there was no email address if you had a question, only a phone number, but no one ever picked up the phone! I left several messages with no response. It's a very messy way of operating and I would not recommend Raleigh Orthopaedics. Lack of transparency, unclear billing procedure and unable to pick up the phone. read more

Came to this location for a consult on the 1st floor with my friend. The receptionist was RUDE & short for no reason. Maybe she was having a horrible day before we got there. Who knows? No matter what, that attitude shouldn't be the first thing patients run into upon check-in. The lobby needed to be cleaned. It had dirty chairs, trash, and mess on the tables. It just felt gross to even sit there waiting to be called to the room. The medical assistant who took us back to the room was short as well. I just don't understand what was happening in that office where everyone we came in contact with had some type of attitude or just seemed like they hated their job in that moment. Maybe next time we will go first thing in the morning. ???? My friend got an X-ray & the tech was friendly. The dr came in for about 2 mins & rushed us off just telling my friend to try physical therapy before he'd be willing to request an MRI. It's like he wasn't listening to the issue yet already had his response ready from before he even came into the room. I feel that he wasted his time & should've gone to a previous provider. This office is getting 3 stars because of the friendly X-ray tech. The rest of them may need a vacation & then come back and try it again. I hope he doesn't go back to this location. read more

It's truly disturbing to me the lack or urgency and poor communication. Patients dealing with pain don't have the luxury of just adding weeks of wait time. It's one thing entirely if you simply don't have openings. But another thing is your team not being responsible and timely to return calls, schedule follow ups, and facilitate referrals. Having to call several times and leave messages just to get a "oh yeah we have those results let me get you on the schedule" like you haven't just been waiting is pain is simply cruel. I had a disappointing experience at Raleigh Orthopaedic Physical Therapy. Initially, the therapist seemed warm and welcoming. However, when I informed her that both my upper and lower back were injured and needed attention, she appeared flustered and suggested addressing only the area bothering me most at each session. This approach felt dismissive, especially since she didn't consult the adjuster to ensure comprehensive treatment. Towards the end of my therapy, I needed to reschedule a session. Despite previously being told by the front desk staff that rescheduling was "not a problem" and no mention of a 24-hour notice policy, I later faced issues. They claimed limited availability, which was inconsistent with my prior experiences since January when scheduling was flexible. Additionally, instead of forwarding my progress notes to the adjuster, they reported inconsistencies in my attendance, which seemed exaggerated. Notably, once the therapist became aware that I had legal representation, her demeanor towards me became more publicly accommodating. However, this contrasted with her actions behind the scenes, as she documented attendance issues without ever addressing them with me directly during my visits. I also overheard her openly complaining about another patient who had canceled an appointment, which I found unprofessional. Overall, I found the professionalism lacking, and the communication regarding treatment plans and scheduling policies was inconsistent and misleading. told how many reps between sets this last I asked he just came up with something. read more

I saw a back surgeon for the first time. I decided to get an appointment with a different surgeon (I had my reasons and told the first surgeon I was not returning) Ryan McLynn accepted me for an appointment and I showed up. I was expecting MRI results. He asked me what was going on with me and I said I have pain on my left side. That's when I realized he was acting angry towards me. I described the pain and he said "show Me"! I continued talking and he yelled at me "I said show me ! " I asked you a question now show me "! I said why are you mad? he repeated " "I'm asking you a question and you're not answering me " I asked him if he was angry because I switched from the first surgeon. " he said "YES I am. "That's not how it works around here" You can't just change doctors"!I said I can't talk to you when you're this mad and yelling. He said "So leave" I called out to his staff if someone would come in and witness this appointment." Ryan told me not to yell down his hall. he was aggressive, belligerent, and hostile. He bullied me. why did he accept me making an appointment with him? Just to show his anger that I switched doctors? I showed up at the appointment thinking he was going to give me the results of the MRI . A patient has every right to see a different doctor. I saw his co-worker surgeon and didn't keep him as my doctor. Ryan Mc Lynn showed me just how angry he was with me doing that. I went to another orthopedic surgeons with a very different diagnosis and treatment and a scope which fixed my knee. Sorry I spent 2 yrs with this clinic and doctor. read more

The doctor that I saw and staff that assisted me were amazing. I would recommend them 100%. However, attempting to get a matter resolved after my visit has been impossible. They have not returned my call, and they have not responded to any requests. Make sure before you walk out the door that all matters have been resolved because if you want help after that, I feel like you have to schedule another appointment. I rarely post online reviews, but after my poor experience at Raleigh Ortho, I felt compelled to share my experience so I can help others avoid the same fate. Being relatively new to the area, I was referred to Raleigh Ortho by a neighbor. In hindsight, I wish I took the time to read the reviews posted on Yelp because there are many unfavorable reviews that are similar to my own experience. Based on my own personal experience, I believe Raleigh Ortho prioritizes profits over patients. After numerous office visits ($), X-rays ($) and a Nerve Assessment ($), it was recommended that I undergo Ulnar Nerve Transposition Surgery ($) to address the numbness and weakness in my left hand. After the initial surgery, I developed a painful seroma on my elbow near the incision where the fluid had to be drained. The seroma lasted about a month and required multiple steroid injections to relive the pain & swelling. The seroma eventually subsided, but the numbness and weakness in my hand has not improved after 8 months post-op. I understand results from Ulnar Nerve Transposition Surgery can vary, which I knew going in, but what I did not know was that 'Tendon Lengthening' is a common procedure performed during Ulnar Nerve Transposition Surgery. I first learned about 'Tendon Lengthening' when I was handed a surprise bill during a post-op follow up appointment. Although I paid for everything in full before my surgery (except anesthesia which is billed separately), I was told that I owed an unpaid amount which was 60% higher than my original estimate. The office receptionist who handled me the bill could not explain what the additional amount was for and she told me to call the billing department to inquire. After two phone calls with two separate billing representatives, I still had no explanation and I was simply told that my original estimate likely varied based on insurance. It was not until I did my own research that I learned the final bill had a unique code in small print '24305 LT' which I learned was the code for tendon lengthening, billed in the amount of $1,356. I couldn't believe two different billing representatives and the office receptionist couldn't explain the additional amount owed, but even more appalling was the fact that 'tendon lengthening' was never mentioned on the original estimate and it was never discussed with me at any appointment, pre-op or post-op. In fact, I had to do my own research to find out what the procedure was and I would never have known the procedure was performed if I hadn't done my own due diligence...unacceptable. Most patients never question a bill their doctor's office hands them, they just pay it. My advice is to review your bills from Raleigh Ortho carefully because you could be billed for procedures that were never disclosed in your estimate or during any appointment. In order to get the charge reversed, I had to write a letter to the Director at Raleigh Ortho. The entire ordeal from the phone calls, research, emails and letter took hours of my time to resolve. The final straw was my most recent follow up appointment with my doctor's PA. The appointment literally lasted 7 minutes where he tapped on my elbow and forearm and asked the same repetitive questions I've been asked at previous follow up appointments. When I communicated I felt no improvement, he suggested another nerve assessment ($), another follow up ($) and likely another surgery ($). My co-pay was $100 for the 7 minute visit with my insurance company being billed for the remainder. I'm now 8 months post-op with no improvement in my symptoms whatsoever. I still have the same numbness and weakness in my left hand. After numerous appointments, tests and surgery, I've spent thousands of dollars and I'm essentially being told we need to start the process over again. I let the Director know that I was requesting my medical records and considering taking my healthcare to another practice. The email response I received was defensive and impersonal, and I'm convinced my health deserves to be under the care of another practice that puts patients above profit. read more

If I could give this place a zero I would . My wife had an appointment at 3pm mine you we arrive about an hour or so early. My wife and I was still sitting at 3:32 pm no one said anything to us , no vitals check or anything . My wife finally got up to ask the receptionist what time would her scan be for the receptionist " young Caucasian with a side braided ponytail and brown color cardigan to say " your arrival time is 3pm and your scan time is 3:30 and I told you that when you first came in ". I will say since my wife is the nice one she just said ok thank you . I did want someone to know how unprofessional the staff was except for our personal MRI lady . Please get your staff customer service training .. treat others how you would want someone to treat your mother . We won't be back and I'm posting reviews on every site imaginable. read more

Two different issues years apart, and neither was addressed. They give you exercises, don't tell you proper technique or time between sets, and never do anything else. It was a giant waste of $ both times. There was no need to go to their office because you just do the same exercises with little to no supervision and you leave. It is the best scam going . . "Go to PT, and they'll find what's best for you." It is more like go to PT, and they will waste your $ and never fix your pain. What a joke of a place. They had no idea what they were treating and just went through the motions. I love how the doctor never follows up either . . They don't care!! read more

This place is trash! Don't go here. They triple book appointment times and as a result the doctors are overbooked. I have been to see Dr. Boes around four times and it's clear he is rushing. He has also told me contradicting information between appointments. I'm pretty sure the PT i've been doing has made my chondromalacia patella worse. I was told early on that I had Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) and that it was ok to feel a little pain. I could continue to exercise and not worry about further injuring myself. Well, partly true if you have PFPS without Chondromalacia! it was not clearly explained that PFPS was a more generic, overarching diagnosis that Chondromalacia Petella falls under. The problem is PFPS exercises encompass movements I should NOT be doing in the early stages of Chondromalacia Petella. My last visit with Dr. Boes was the last straw for me. He said what I have was degenerative and there was nothing he could do to fix it. Keep in mind I have been very active my entire life and I am a 32 year old female. The words nothing he can do is quite discouraging!!!! He then recommended PT which was funny because I previously was going to PT at Raleigh Orthopedics under his recommendation. I felt as if he had forgotten that I was already going to PT. I have since switched Raleigh Orthopedics PT offices, It's maybe a little bit better but still pretty horrible. No one pays attention. I am often doing exercises BY MYSELF! Why am I paying for this! Now I am trying to get a second option someplace else and I am having the worst time trying to get my records simply faxed over to the new location! I am so pissed off. I have progressively gotten worse. Since all of this I am no longer able to exercise because I have pain in my knee from daily activity. I regret ever trusting this place. I am worse off than when I started. Don't go see Dr. Boes. He is a rushed doctor that I'm sure knows he stuff but cares more about fitting in as many appointments as possible then the level of care he is delivering. read more

This Orthopedic practice DOES NOT care about healing people. If you need even a small procedure, they're number one concern is when and how do you pay. Even with insurance they will want to charge you and arm and a leg. They're NOT concerned at all on your health, they're main concern is your money. They DONT negotiate with insurances either, they just charge your entire yearly deductible. If you're wealthy, they're happy to take your money. If you're a regular person you'll be disabled and drs won't care. Find a Dr who actually cares. read more

I'm really surprised by the reviews, as I finally found an orthopedic that listened to me and actually took time with me. Dr Boone is my new favorite! He is absolutely the best! His bedside manner is top notch and there are some docs that are "Godlike" and tell you as such, not him, he actually cares! My first appointment with him lasted almost 45 minutes. He never rushed me out the door and answered all of my questions, without making me feel dumb! We tried all non-surgical options first, however, those didn't work for me. When it finally did come down to surgery, their surgery center is so convenient and their nurses were so great! If I ever have another problem (everything is falling apart!), I'm coming back here! read more

The physical therapists at this location are exceptional. They really help get to the root for the issue including the supporting areas. They try to go beyond the surface of the pain and develop skills for you to use in your day to day life for it to really stick and make a difference. I have 2 spinal fractures and after months of pain and not getting anywhere with healing, my second visit of therapy I already am beginning to feel a good amount of difference in my discomfort levels. I appreciate the staff here on both sides, Ortho clinic and PT. They both go above and beyond and really look out for you in every way they can. read more

I travelled from my home town (almost 2 hours away) to see a physician in this practice for their reputation and expertise. Dr. Watters was the physician I was assigned to see. He actively listened to my concerns, gave me the time I needed, and we created a treatment plan together. At the time of this review, I am one week out of surgery and recovering from a partial knee replacement. Dr. Watters and his team are phenomenal. I have received world-class care from the administrative team, office medical staff, advanced practice providers, physicians, surgical team, and even the billing and insurance staff. Raleigh Orthopaedic does it all here! On this most recent visit I took a trip to the surgery center. Dr. Dare reconstructed my ACL from my hamstring (options are the quad, hamstring, patellar tendon or a cadaver) and sutured my meniscus tear. I am currently doing my post-op physical therapy here with Gracy and am on the road to recovery so I can return to playing sports. For past visits I have seen Dr. Lyman Smith (who is retired now) and Dr. Boone. My only dislike is the billing disconnect between the surgery center and clinic but they have been helpful in getting my issues resolved. Raleigh Orthopaedic knows what they are doing and I definitely recommend them. Knowledgeable doctors with a great staff. read more

I'm sure the physical therapist has years of experience in his field however his knowledge and political views of military veterans and the Veteran's Affair's (V.A.) health care system was unnecessary and extremely unprofessional and inappropriate which made the entire evaluation uncomfortable, and I felt unheard due to his preconceptions and bias against people like me, a military veteran. He should have kept his unwanted opinions to himself. By the way, he is completely wrong about veteran's health care, but he was quick to shut me down after I told him I would never have to wait 3 months through the V.A. for a physical therapy appointment. I did not feel he really wanted to help me once he said my injury wasn't that serious and that I should have healed by now. I could tell by his demeanor and body language that he wasn't taking me seriously and by the way he questioned my physical abilities. It is too often that women's pain does not get taken seriously, it's proven. I don't appreciate medical gaslighting and I really hope that terrible habit is not practiced towards other patients. Also, I asked for resources, for example if they had an app I could follow at home to do some physical therapy at home, but he was ready to send me home empty handed. I was able to obtain a sheet with some exercises but none of them were things I could do. I was in tears by the end of the evaluation, and I felt rushed out of the meeting while maintaining my composure and still thanked him for his time. Disappointed to say the least. Lastly, wait time was too long. I was seen after my appointment time and I arrived early. read more

I have an appointment {WakeMed} June 2022 to have my shoulder cut off and replaced. I will never, EVER play Badminton again...NEVER EVER. Isbell had the chance to repair my shoulder. Didn't, couldn't...wouldn't... Again. 'it' is scheduled to be cut off in June... Isbell's attempt to repair my shoulder failed 9 years ago. 45% of all rotator-cuff repairs every day. 2013, Isbell deflected my pain to a spine surgeon. $500. The spine referral left instructions to see a different spine surgeon if the pain continues. $10,000 in MRIs later, I am scheduled to have my shoulder cut off this summer. Go find a surgeon who cares more about YOU than your insurance company. read more

The amount of knowledge and "bedside manor" that Doctor Walls has (and I call her Doctor, because in my eyes, she is a Doctor) is amazing, so comforting, so assuring, always smiling, chipper, always explaining all the facts in detail and then looking and reading your expressions and then waiting and listening to you, to make sure you understand what she said and what is going on, after that she give her thoughts as to what she thinks would be the correct solution to your problem and then "together" you talk about what will work and what is best, now that she knows you understands and exactly what is going it is so much easier to get you right back to normal, she does a great job and I think my next boat....I will name after her! It is all about the revenue. Extra charges on my bill and unneeded tests (said my doctor after the radiologist ordered a second MRI. I just don't trust them and decided to put my surgery as a last resort rather than a first option. They are a perfect example of why medicine is so costly. AWESOME DOCTORS AND STAFF AT RALEIGH ORTHOPEDIC!!! My husband Lamon had meniscal repair yesterday performed by doctor Daniel Albright and was eating lunch less than 2 hours later at the Farmers Market. Amazingly, he's back at work today without his pain meds! Due to an old football injury, Lamon required a total hip replacement last October. He was back to work performing quotes, for his landscaping business, in 4 days using only a cane. This is, in part, due to the fact that my husband is as tough as nails but is also greatly due to doctor Albright's skilled hands!! My step-son Oliver also had a wonderful experience last year with his ACL and medial & lateral meniscal reconstruction surgery performed by Lyman Smith! The physical therapy team at Raleigh Orthopedic, including Dennis and Walker, got Oliver rehabilitated in time for football season this fall at Athens Drive HS. He's so grateful to play again his senior year! Our family can't thank Raleigh Orthopedic enough! YOU ROCK! read more

I had a great experience with my first visit to Raleigh Orthopedic in Raleigh NC. Dr. David Dare was the doctor that I saw; and he was a fantastic choice! I had several x-rays made of my shoulder,before he came in. He was very personable,attentive, and professional. He had me perform some manual range of motion test to see where the pain hinged from. He took the time to explain, in detail, what and where the issue was. We decided that I would benefit from a steroid injection rather than damage an existing ulcer,with NSADS. He also wanted me to go to physical therapy. I would highly recommend him as an orthopedic doctor! I gave the office four stars because it took a while to check out . They got really busy! read more

One visit, with a hurt leg I couldn't stand on, I was made to hop back and forth between a chair and receptionist to fill out paperwork. I had to literally hop to the exam room. Hop to xray. Hop back to exam room. Hop to another xray b/c the first one wasn't a good capture. Hop back to exam room. Then, they see the leg bone is broken and OMG, out comes the wheel chair and liability-fearing-care. Really? All but one visits I've only seen PA's not a doctor. You pay the same. Can't complain too much, the advice was good, and I wasn't rushed. But they do sports medicine right? They have doctors that are literally described on the web as being experts on shoulders, ribs, etc. So I break a rib, do urgent care, do family doc. Later I want a follow up. I want a 2nd opinion and some advice on when/how to resume sports. Raleigh Ortho denies me. "We don't treat patients with Rib injuries". I said "I just want advice from an Ortho on whether it's truly broken or not, and when I can resume cycling activities" and they said "No, we can't take you." A sports medicine bone doctor place that won't take you for a bone problem or advise you on sports is a non-starter. Never going back here. read more
