She was so attentive throughout, and she anticipated my needs before I knew what I needed. It was all the little things she did to make me (and my husband) as comfortable as possible. After a long, hard early labor our birth plan changed while at the hospital. Our doulas were there to help us discuss our options and give us space and guidance to make the best choices for us and our baby. It wasn't the birth we initially planned for, but it was the most empowered and in control birth I've had. Mona did our placenta encapsulation and they have been a wonderful supplement to my postpartum nutrition! If we ever have another baby this will be the first call we make!

Unfortunately, my delivery went horribly and my placenta was unusable. Even though the situation was horrible Angela and Kyleen bent over backwards to make sure I l was taken care of mentally and physically and they were genuinely concerned with mine, and my son's, wellbeing. Although I never got my placenta encapsulated, I gained lifelong support systems and I couldn't be more thankful for their services.

Chelsea was absolutely incredible, she was with us for the evenings the first week our little one came into the world. We also had her back for the week my husband transitioned back to work so I could get caught up on sleep. Chelsea taught us a lot of great tricks to try for calming our fussy baby, she helped around the house, and she's the swaddle queen. Ask for a lesson and practice, you won't regret it. She was open to our long list of continuous questions, and helped us see that we had to continue to try a combination of things until something worked to soothe our baby. Chelsea also continued to reinforce our efforts and remind us we were doing a great job, even on days we were ready to give up. I'm so grateful to Anna at Arizona Doulas for making the time to have an introductory call with us at the beginning to help us understand how a doula could be beneficial. Anna provided the various options and let us customize our support needs. Anna made sure we knew this journey was about us and getting situated and acclimated as a newly expanded family. Our ultimate goal was to get our baby here safely, however, we wanted to do it in the most natural way possible. Having Nicole as my and my husband's support helped us acheive exactly what we wanted from our birth experience! Nicole even provided support to my mom who was present during labor and delivery. Nicole was professional; she worked extremely well with my nurses and doctors. She was a constant support during the whole process and she was extremely intuitive to my needs. I cannot imagine going through the birthing process without her there. She was also an amazing health advocate for me because of her background as an RN (even joining in doc apts) as I had complex postpartum complications and our family will always be so grateful for her guidance and positivity. We also hired Colleen for her sleep specialist program/sleep training and her custom schedule, coaching, and tips made it so easy. Our son has been sleeping through the night and taking 4 naps a day since 3.5 months old. (Now he's a pretty chill baby, but Colleen is magic.) Whether you plan to go natural, have a C-section or something in between, Shannon certainly has the skills to support you in delivering your baby in a manner that's as close to your wishes as medically possible. As for the service, she provided an initial consult in our home, giving us an opportunity to interview her and decide if we connected and would be a good match in the labor and delivery room. She also booked two follow up appointments at which time we covered birth preferences, pain management techniques and she familiarized us with the tools she would bring on the big day. Shannon helped us learn rebozo techniques, tens unit application, counter pressure techniques and labor massage. She was in close contact up until delivery and was also available to me for questions, concerns and even suggestions for encouraging labor and engagement when I passed my due date. While I'd hoped to have an intervention free birth, I had to be induced and Shannon was incredibly supportive of every decision I made and helped me with keeping my labor progressing so I could avoid other interventions despite the need for pitocin. She was a calm, steady presence even when things got momentarily chaotic and gave me the encouragement I needed to work through the pain when I thought I couldn't keep going. While she has many wonderful qualities one would look for in a doula, I think I was most touched and surprised by her attention to detail and that she wrote the story of my birth and brought it over along with a crockpot meal at our follow up appointment two weeks postpartum. I would have never known the timeline of events had she not been noting them and I will forever cherish the story of my daughter's birth. Shannon is an absolute labor room rockstar!!!

During our initial conversations, she mentioned that she wasn't particularly happy with the area and hoped to pursue a new job after completing her master's program. We understood this to be something further down the road and had no reason to believe it would affect our plans. Roughly two months before our due date, we received an email sent to all of her clients informing us that she had accepted a position requiring her to relocate and would no longer be able to attend our births. Learning that our birth support was no longer available through a mass email, rather than a more personal conversation, was disappointing in itself. In subsequent correspondence, she explained that she had already interviewed for the position before we even met, which made the situation particularly frustrating. While we understand that hiring timelines can be unpredictable, this left us scrambling to find a new doula and establish a relationship with someone new at a very important time in our pregnancy. The situation was made more disappointing by the handling of our refund. Although she returned part of our initial payment, she retained a portion to compensate herself for our initial meeting and the client materials she provided. We asked her to reconsider given that she would no longer be providing the primary service we hired her for, but she declined. We were also disappointed by her suggestion that finding a less expensive replacement put us at a "net gain," as though having to replace our chosen birth support so close to our due date was somehow a benefit. We recognize that circumstances can change, but we believe communication, consideration, and accountability are especially important when working with expectant parents. Unfortunately, this experience left us feeling that our circumstances and the disruption caused by her departure were not given the consideration we had hoped for. We would encourage anyone considering hiring her to ask detailed questions about future availability and potential career or relocation changes before committing.

Cassandra went beyond our expectations. She was able to prepare us and provide a lot of knowledge and support prior to labor. She taught us a lot of techniques we could use before, during, and after labor. She listened to me and my partner, which was another important thing for us. As for the most part, my birthing plan did not go as I had planned. I ended up having preeclampsia and got induced 3 weeks early. I couldn't have done it without Cassandra and my partner, though. Cassandra made sure I was comfortable; she brought snacks, tea, games, a tablet to watch movies, and even went out to go get me a slushie I was craving so badly. She brought all of her tools as well. She also took pictures that we will forever cherish. Her support and knowledge were everything we needed and more. I honestly could not have done it without her; she was absolutely amazing! She also kept my placenta and made tablets for me. She was also going to make a keepsake out of the cord and make it into a heart, but was unable to since my cord was so short. Cassandra has stayed in touch with us and provided a ton of resources for me, which has been so helpful. If you are looking for someone to listen to you, provide knowledge, support you, and go beyond for you, Cassandra is the perfect doula for you.
