I had previously used Morningstar for a front entrance and steps, and they did an absolutely amazing job, so I contacted them again. Kerry came out and talked to me twice about my project. My property is a hill, basically, which added challenges to the job. After demolition of the old firepit, and excavation of the site, I got a retaining wall that is absolutely a work of art, a beautiful patio and a firepit that rivals anything I've ever seen for workmanship and beauty, and a walkway that is unbelievable! The weather did not cooperate for many days, but once they were able to pour concrete, they got right on it. They created a circular patio against a retaining wall of graduated height, measuring 4' in the middle. Then, they added a template design, having to work suspended above the concrete! The results are just beautiful! I wanted a larger than usual firepit, as I have a wooded lot, and burn a lot of twigs and debris from the trees, but wanted something that would be an attractive firepit for get togethers. They absolutely came through for me, I love the firepit that they designed! The walkway that they laid out is curved, and looks like a path in the woods. They finished it beautifully, with a pattern that looks like stone. Their pricing is competitive, and the quality is well worth it. They are reliable, and very focused on doing a spectacular job. They also make sure to leave the jobsite clean and in great shape, straightening out the landscape beautifully. I am over the moon with my new patio, firepit and walkway. Once again, a spectacular, quality job.

I am not typically one to leave bad reviews, but Kerry and Morningstar Construction installed…read moreDEFECTIVE CONCRETE and left me high and dry. Take a look at these photos of their work. They blamed their supplier, JJ Kennedy, who they said sold them a bad batch of concrete. Every time it freezes the concrete crumbles, and gets worse! Plus, Kim (Kerry's wife) told me that this has happened on Multiple Jobs - not just mine! It shouldn't be my problem - it's Morningstar's problem. I tried to address this with them before posting any reviews. I repeatedly called and email them to try to get this resolved. They kept ignoring me and I had to keep contacting them again and again. Finally Kerry promised IN A WRITTEN AGREEMENT to come back to my house and replace the crumbling concrete before 2025 was over -- but 2025 came and went and Kerry was full of excuses on why he couldn't do what he originally promised to do. Kerry did not honor his word. If you are reading this - I WOULD STEER CLEAR

After he price gouges you for work he's incapable of doing he becomes violently angry. He threatened me with guns and called me an ni**er bitch. Initially I agreed to all the work and prices he proposed. He appeared knowledgeable and put out a demeanor of trust with a soft tone to his voice and constant reassurance that he would give me the best price. Then he proposed to do portions of a 3' x 4' porch not tearing it down and replacing it but just taking down parts of it for over $6000! When I questioned this price he told me not to worry about it that he had already started the job and that we would work it out. When I looked to see what he'd done to start the job he had taken out a piece of trim from the roof. Which is exactly "starting" the job. Even though, I had not signed the contract and I had not given him a deposit or permission to move forward with this job. It was all downhill from there. He then became angry and spiteful so he literally told me one day because I did not give him the rest of the work that he had taken on another job, and it was gonna take him longer to do my job. OK I said, not a problem. As he began to take longer and longer to finish the repointing work, I began to get nervous about the cold weather coming, and I still wanted to get some things on my roof done so I asked him to go ahead and give me a quote on the roof work. He comes back with a quote for $9900 for some roof work which I didn't think was a crazy number, until I had an actual roofer come and give me an estimate of $5500 for the same work and then another roofer give me an estimate of $6200. This guy is a fraud, he price gouged me the entire time because I didn't know and trusted him. He's not trustworthy. The pricing is one thing and if there was excellent work to go with it I really couldn't complain. When I confronted him on the terrible cement job that he did, he lost his mind. He yelled and screamed into the phone, called me all kind of names that I will not mention here trust me, do you due diligence with this guy do not hire him. He does not respect women which is why most of his reviews are men he worked with or did jobs for. "There's so many things that happened on this job; way too much to type in this review, however, you can let the pictures tell the story on the cement and how he left this job. I paid him over $10,000. I guess that wasn't enough to buy some integrity in his work. Wish I could add videos too it's crazy!

The Waters Edge

Michelle and Gary, the owners of Waters Edge are great at what they do and clearly love their work…read more I first visited Waters Edge a few years ago when they first opened, and Gary helped me to buy everything that I needed to setup a small water garden in a container on my front porch. The plants were beautiful and healthy. Their garden store is small, but they have a few nice water gardens for inspiration and many ideas on display. Then last year we started looking for a landscape architect or designer to help us come up with a comprehensive landscape design for our 10+ acre farmette. We focused on landscape companies with a focus on water gardens, because we wanted a large water feature in our backyard. We also needed someone who could help us create beautiful, natural looking windbreaks for our horses' run-in sheds, shade for the horses and us, and windbreaks to help prevent drifting snow on our driveway. Michelle's (and Gary's) Penn State education and experience in both landscape design and horticulture proved to meet all of our needs. She was able to not only come up with an awesome design, but also to help us select plants that will be hardy for our winters, disease and drought resistant, and as deer resistant as possible. She was great at helping to consider the impact our dog will have on our plants and backyard water feature, and made recommendations to accommodate all of our family members, even those with four legs! Michelle was very easy to work with and we love her detailed designs. She was quick to respond to emails and phone calls, and educated us at each step in the process. She even spent an entire afternoon driving us around to see some of her past work to get ideas and so that we would be confident in her ability. She provided a simple but detailed contract and written estimate before any work was performed, and kept within our budget. We've installed the first phase of our landscape design, which is a tree-lined driveway (1/3 of mile). Michelle designed to avoid planting near overhead power lines to prevent severe trimming of the trees when they get bigger. They worked with us to carefully select the variety of trees and to locate the largest and healthiest specimens possible for our money. Michelle and Gary along with one employee carefully planted the 40 trees, including amending the soil with compost/peat, staking the trees with three supports, fertilizing, mulching around them, providing tree bags to hold a week's worth of water, adding mesh guards around the trunks to prevent deer rubbing, and did the initial watering of all the trees. We are very happy with our new and improved driveway. The trees, although still small now, dramatically improved the look of our property. I highly recommend Waters Edge for all of your landscaping projects.
