Rainbow trout

I went a few times as a kid and then went recently as an adult, and it still was just as fun. Keep in mind a few things though: 1. You need to bring $10 cash in order to pay the parking fee, and 2. the water is FREEZING!! This river is very close to the mountains so the water is still very very cold. There are a few places in the basin to jump in, ranging from 5-20 feet. I also went fishing up the river and caught a couple of rainbow trout. They aren't exactly big enough to make a good meal, but you can catch and release them if you like to fish for fun. Also please for gods sake don't litter or throw bottles in the river. As a kid, i cut my foot open in the river on a beer bottle and needed stitched, which is also why i recommend wearing water shoes.

It was absolutely beautiful clean and not crowded on a weekday plus it's on the way to Yosemite. I swam quite a bit and there is current as you swim towards the falls . I was considerate enough to pay the daily fee and most people ignored it!

One of my friends introduced the idea of visiting Rainbow Pools during 2020 in the heat of summer. I have to say, as a swimming enthusiast, this area of free style swims, and the waterfall is pretty breathtaking. It was so refreshing, and you can dive, and there's plenty of room to spread out even when it's crowded. Really, my only hesitancy about visiting here is that it's pretty rugged on any vehicle used to drive here. Twists, turns, tight stretches of road. I had just had my brakes replaced literally before this trip and am thankful for that. I would almost want to rent a car to avoid putting wear and tear on my personal vehicles. BUT, this is a must visit and should be bookmarked!

The rainbow pools are a beautiful and relaxing stop on the way to Yosemite! It was a gem! Highly recommend stopping for an hour or two on your trek! Parking can be very busy and tight. We went around 4 pm and it was perfect.

A cliff you can jump off from

You can jump off the cliff in the top right of the photo. If you don't know how to swim, DO NOT go up. The currents can be strong & unsafe. There was a guy who swam across & drifted to the left & got stuck for a bit but he was able to come back. Other than that, the water is cold but it is refreshing on a warm day.

Very nice just need to take cash for the parking and get their early to get a good spot

This is a must see. It seems extremely busy during the day time so we waited until dinner time and everyone was gone and there was plenty of parking. It was still completely warm enough to swim. Evening time also seemed to be the time the locals were there so that makes me think that's the best time to go. People were also fishing in the evening, but that made it more difficult to swim.

Absolutely amazing and breathtaking place. Settled remotely in the Yosemite lakes area, this place is sure to regenerate your soul. Pro tip--arrive early. It gets busy near noon and then parking is very limited. I will come back and jump off the 40ft cliff again. I highly recommend.

Jump off a waterfall or an even higher rock outcropping

It's been said, quite accurately, that I have about a 5 degree range of comfort. Set the dial at 74 degrees and I'm okay if it goes 5 degrees in either direction but more than that and you're apt to hear some bitching. Said bitching began on the hottest day of 2018, when I arrived at my lodging to find the pool closed. I got into my hotel room, grumbling audibly at my fate and then sat for a few minutes, thumbing through the book of hotel amenities as it were. Rainbow Pools was less than 2 miles away and it took me about 30 seconds to announce that's where I was headed. Wednesday is likely the quietest day of the week in these parts and it was past 4 p.m. when I got to Rainbow Pools. A sign on the highway made it simple to find and though there's not a lot of parking I found a spot easily. Two sets of stairs - each ending in rocks - lead you down to nature's pool. Follow the one on the right and you'll first encounter the sandy area with a swimming hole beside it. This part sits right atop the waterfall. Make your way down further (or come in from the left, a bit easier and more direct), scaling the rocks, and you'll have access to the lower hole. Either way, these swimming holes will be perfect. The water was less chilly than it is in Yosemite Valley and on a day when temperatures were over 90 degrees it felt perfect. A high outcropping of rocks is difficult to get up to but a perfect place for daredevils to jump from. The more conservative will choose to leap in above the waterfall itself. Me? I was happy to just swim around, neck deep in nature's bath. Located about 10 miles outside the Route 120 entrance to Yosemite, Rainbow Pools is a good place to cool off on a hot day.

Must GO!! We went 2 times out of the 5 days we were up there and this place is sooooo fun. I watched dudes do all kinds of neat dives from the cliffs and I even got to see a guy do a back flop from about 25-30 feet HILARIOUS!!! Be safe out there but most of all have fun

This spot was our savior while staying up the road at one of the campgrounds. It was soooo hot, 106 degrees and we had no shade! We were able to come just two miles down the road and cool off. The falls were beautiful, but the place was packed. Go early or later in the day. If the main area is packed you can also walk a little ways up or down stream on the paths and find some secluded areas. We also saw many people cliff jumping. Enjoy this spot, but keep the area clean and pack out your trash!

You have probably seen the sign on your way into Yosemite, but what exactly is rainbow pools? It's a gorgeous little slice of paradise, any time of year. In the winter, they close the road but you can park a short hike away, off of the highway and hike down. Just be very careful, as the water flow is very dangerous in the winter and is not safe for swimming. However, this is the time of year that you will see why they are named rainbow pools. In the summer this place can be packed with hoards of families and friends seeking relief from the heat. There is NO garbage service here. Please, please pack out everything that you bring in. I always grab a stray piece of trash that someone else left behind. This is our land folks, let's keep it beautiful. There are basic rest rooms. No alcohol and Rangers do patrol the area. As long as you are there being responsible, they are very friendly. Take the short hike under the bridge and down to where the river forks meet. It is jaw dropping beautiful in years with decent rainfall.

Splash-N-Dash Aqua Park was such a fun experience and definitely worth the day trip! We visited on…read morea Saturday toward the very end of their season, and surprisingly, it wasn't busy at all. From what I understand, they typically operate from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Given how hot it gets in the Central Valley, I honestly feel like they could extend their season a little longer! The park has plenty of space, including several shaded areas where you can set up lawn chairs and relax. Even if it were extremely busy, I think there would still be plenty of room to spread out. You can also bring your own food and grill, which makes it a great option for families or larger groups wanting to spend the day together. We decided to rent a cabana, and it was absolutely worth it! There were 12 of us, and we had plenty of room without feeling like we were stepping over each other. The cabana was completely shaded and came with a cooler. We brought our own drinks, and the staff filled the cooler with ice, which was a really nice touch. We were also able to order food directly from the cabana, and they delivered everything right to us. The food was good, and the convenience made the experience even better. Check-in was pretty straightforward. We signed the required waivers, paid, and got everything squared away. They also sell water shoes on-site, which I actually recommend purchasing there. The quality was good, the prices were reasonable, and it was convenient. The only strange part was how particular they were about sizing and trying them on, since once you tried them on, you couldn't return them. That policy was a little funky, but otherwise no issues. Another thing I appreciated was that life jackets were included with admission. They provided U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets, which gave me some peace of mind knowing we had proper safety equipment without needing to bring our own. Now for the actual water park! Be prepared because the water was EXTREMELY cold! You have to swim roughly 100-150 meters out to reach the first floating obstacle platform, and that initial swim was definitely a shock. But after driving all that way, there was no turning back! Once I got moving, made it onto the obstacles, and started having fun, the cold water really didn't bother me nearly as much. The floating obstacle course was an absolute blast! We spent about two hours climbing, jumping, swimming, and working our way through everything before heading back to the cabana for lunch. Honestly, two hours was plenty because we were completely exhausted afterward and didn't even bother going back out on the water! Overall, Splash-N-Dash Aqua Park was a fantastic experience. The cabana setup was great, the staff was helpful, the food was good, and the obstacle course was a ton of fun. Prices were reasonable, and it made for an awesome day trip with a larger group. Just be prepared for that cold water! Definitely recommend checking it out during the summer!

It was a little bit of a drive for us, but definitely worth it. We had a group of about 8 and rented a cabana, which I HIGHLY recommend. The cabanas are spacious, shaded, and made it so nice to have a place to relax between getting in the water. Check-in was easy, and they got everyone set up with wristbands, water shoes, life jackets, and a safety briefing pretty quickly. The Aqua Park was SO much fun, but that water is COLD! It definitely took some courage to get in, and the climbing/jumping is actually a serious workout. The kids absolutely loved it, and everyone in our group had a blast. We also ordered food while we were there, and honestly, no complaints! The food was really good, and having it delivered right to our cabana was such a nice convenience. There's also a kids' splash area, BBQ areas, RV camping, fishing, and dogs are allowed. The bathrooms are pretty basic, and there are porta-potties with handwashing stations near the Aqua Park. We went on the last weekend of the season, so it wasn't crowded, which made the experience even better. Overall, we had a fabulous time and would definitely come back! Highly recommend for a fun family day or birthday!!

I would recommend going as soon as…read morethe park opens which is 11am or even like 30min before because the line does get long to park and as well as the line to get inside! Park closes at 6pm, extended summer hours is 7pm. We went on a Tuesday and Tuesdays are the days they offer their deals. It's buy one get one free basically for $49.99 which I think it's a fair price since individual tickets are from I believe $30-$40. Parking is $5 and if you want to park upfront it's $10. We waited in line for almost an hour to get inside so be mindful if you have a lot of things to carry. Bring a cooler with wheels and a wagon! If you also have a baby stroller that is also allowed inside. The only thing they won't allow you to bring inside is anything glass, alcohol or knives so please precut your fruits and sandwiches beforehand. They do check coolers and bags upfront. We bought Costco pizzas, made pasta salad, charcuterie boards and other knick knack snacks for the kids as well to give you guys ideas on what to bring! Most of the time everyone's gonna be out swimming and on rides and not paying attention on eating lol If you have kids, please take them I recommend and apply sunscreen at all times!

The traffic to go inside was busy and took some time to go in and to wait in line. Highly recommend to bring a wagon to carry all your things. I had 6 boxes of pizza to bring in so I'm glad I didn't have to carry it instead just wheel them in. The tubes is mainly for the lazy river because the wave pool it's not allowed. I didn't think it was worth getting tbh. Went on a few slides felt like a kid again. Me and my son enjoyed the wave until the "accidents" were happening in there so they had to clear the crowd a few times to I guess shock the pool. I hope there's plenty of chlorine to kill all the germs because I always think of water parks as a big toilet/bath house lol

I haven't been to this area In years and it looks about the same. Kind of run down as you enter the neighborhood and I probably wouldn't walk these streets alone at night but luckily I'd have no business being here except during a hot summer day at this little water park. We were the second group admitted and it costs $1 for whom ever wants to play. They have 2 slides and riders must meet height requirements. Our 3.5 year old was 42 inches so he got an orange wristband and could only ride the orange slide. The yellow slide had a height requirement of 45 or 46 I believe. Despite the height requirements, our son only went down the orange slide 2-3 times. The park was very crowded with people trying to stay cool. Our son cried when he got water in his face .. guess he won't enjoy water parks much till he realizes water in the face is part of the experience lol!! At one point he said "there's too many people here" and I couldn't have agreed more. There's a small grass area and a couple picnic tables with shade but other than That, not much seating or shade Not sure if we'd return but it was a well kept water park with decent bathrooms
