Decided to go for a run on this scorching hot day (still literally 100 degrees after 6pm), and found Rainbow Park nearby. It's a medium sized park with lots of grassy fields to roll around and/or picnic. There are some concrete pathways, great for walking or jogging, though again, the park's not that big, so multiple laps are more fitting for a good run. Skates and skateboards are not allowed according to the signs. It's mostly flat land throughout the park, not too hilly and a good amount of trees. In fact there's a whole shaded section with numerous picnic tables and seating, and multiple bbq grills, the area looking almost like a beautiful mini forest at one corner of the park. There are also two play structures, one for younger kids/toddlers and the other for older kids... or grown-ups?!? Seriously, I would enjoy my time on the swings (I love parks that have classic swings!). They also have toddlers swings in the little kid playground. The restroom is conveniently located in between the picnic area and playground area, the building wall covered with lovely colorful artwork. This park is on the simpler side, but that's part of the charm IMO, it's spacious and clean, with lots of greenery, and it's set in a safe and inviting neighborhood. It has everything you would need for a quiet relaxing outing or lively family gathering, and none of the bells and whistles. read more

Thought this was a small park at first but it opens up. Lots of grass and a decent walking trail. We had some amazing views of the sunset from here...see photos. read more

I went here to relax and do some reading and writing after going for a walk. Awesome park with lots of shade and very quiet. Nice people said good morning to me. Nice dog owners and dogs too. Just a very pleasant place. Tons of parking. Felt right at home. Bathroom nice too. Nice rainbow mural. read more

Nice park. Kids like the recessed playground with a little bridge. Enough space for riding scooters, but not too large.

Great park for kids around 1 year of age since it as an enclosed gate around the play structure!! Our Twins are 15 months old and this makes it so much easier when they run in opposite directions. It has swings, climbing structure with slides, bridge, table, mirror and a steering wheel. My girls just love going there! They also have picnic tables with tons of trees and an older play structure for kids. Tons of parking on the street and restrooms. The grass needs some work but otherwise not bad! read more

I came here for a community BBQ. Pros: Nice BBQ pit and area Lots of open space Plenty of street parking Easy to find Cons: Next to a school Not a ton of shade Nothing special Not a bad time. Would probably come again for another BBQ. read more

This park is REALLY nice for younger kids, because there are two play structures; one for little bits and the other for older kids. Each play structure is large and has a variety of activities included, unlike some tot lots that don't have much to the climbing structure. The low play structure includes a little picnic table for make-believe meals, tunnels, a bridge, spinning bead mosaic, steering wheels, stairs, and slides. In that same area, there are two toddler swings in the shade and a springy see-saw apparatus. The taller structure has most of the usual activities, but because it's surrounded by a retaining wall, you can only get out on to it using a bridge from the upper area, which makes it kind of fort like. There is also a large sand pit, and a button controlled sprinkler fountain that empties into the sand. Fun but just be ready for some sandy, sticky kids. The shade trees and funky retro picnic tables make it perfect for picnic and play. I gave 4 instead of 5 stars because I have two issues, but they are really only problems for my situation having 1.5 yr old twins and a 3 year old. #1: I wish that the partial fence went all the way around the low play structure, especially to keep the toddlers out of the sand and off the tall play structure. Since I have three to chase, I feel that I can't go to this park alone with them. #2: Parks and Rec needs to fill in the very deep hole next to the fountain. I LOVE the idea, but with the huge hole and very hard concrete edge, it's not too safe for the young ones. The twins wanted to play with the water, but I couldn't deal with it for long because I didn't want to perform first aid on anyone. Thinking about bringing a shovel next time we go and leveling the sand myself. ;-) We went on a Sunday for a picnic lunch and ended up being one of three groups there. One lady was doing Tai Chi with a sword, which was pretty fascinating to my 3 year old. read more

Rainbow Park is residential park across from Lynbrook High School. It is very kid-friendly with playground areas for toddlers and elementary school-aged children. There is a very open field great for playing soccer and touch football. There also is a large picnic area with tables, barbeques, sink, etc. Picnic area is first-come, first served. As a twin mom with 18 month toddlers, I'm constantly on the search for an epic park. This, sadly, was not it. I read a previous review that said the toddler area was gated - my first requisite for an epic park - and that wasn't true. In addition, the park was FILTHY. There was trash all over the place and I spent the moments I wasn't trying to coral the girls picking up garbage or taking garbage away from them. I realize this is a public space, but this was really beyond the pale. The lining material from under the sand pit also was coming up / through in several places, which added to the run down look of the place. On the positive side, there are several nice tables and benches you can chill at, if you aren't busy chasing your kids around (without the gate and all). There was also plenty of parking and a large grassy area that was lovely. A few positives, but overall, a bust for us. Our search for the best toddler park around continues... read more

This is a nice neighborhood-friendly park for children of all ages. This is walking distance from my home and I've been here with younger kids, alone while jogging around, and with dogs. I've seen and interacted with local neighbors here. There is tons of open fields with green grass, plenty of BBQ stations at one side of the park, play structures, and even a divider with a dog park on the other side. It is across from a high school and next to an elementary school in a quiet neighborhood. My only recommendation would be a basketball or volleyball court for older children or adults to play with. Big and bright that is until the lights go out around 8pm. This park was able to accommodate around ten of us as the sun set. Beautiful. But the fun all started as we said goodbye to the sun. What the real reason why we were there? Glow-in-the dark wristbands and a glow-in-the-dark Frisbee. We were there for the ultimate Ultimate glow-in-the-dark Frisbee. We found ourselves running around like zombies ducking, throwing, and tossing the Frisbee in the absolute darkness save the glow-in-the-dark wristbands and Frisbee. I was surprised that that no one got hurt despite the fact that we could barely see ourselves in the dark. read more

Good place for BBQ and picnic. There's a wide grassy lawn for kids and dogs to run around. But it's not the most picturesque park in the summer because the grass turns brown. read more

This park has a great BBQ area, open grass areas, well maintained sidewalks, and two playgrounds for the kids. My son and I had a blast playing on all the equipment. Watch out for the water spout. Your kids may get very wet. I also wish that trashcans were placed more conveniently. read more

Very spacious, never crowded. It has 2 playgrounds, one is for toddler aged, and the other is for older kids. Nice atmosphere, a lot of privacy. The grass area is huge, and is a safe area to let a toddler run around. Everything was pretty clean, including restrooms. There were no electrical outlets though which some parks do have, this one didn't. Overall a place I'm rating highly. read more

Nice play structures. The sand in the tot lot gets everywhere so beware of that but otherwise a clean, pretty park.
