Working with Chris was fine but the price doubled between my original estimate and the final estimate ($4985 up to $9763) and the work in one area did not actually fix the problem I hired him for. The original plan was to remove/prevent weeds from my leach field and area near house & put rock under an electric fence. When asked about the weeds, Christopher said: "If you do it correctly you'll be able to be plant free in areas that you tamped for a few years. Longest I've been able to keep plants away without adding a cloth weed sheet was 5 years." As of 5/22/24 when I finally just canceled the project because I couldn't handle any more unexpected price increases, the leach field is completely filled with weeds again, so the work just made a different kind of weed grow, but in the same amount. The rock under the fence is more than halfway complete. Here are the details about the price increases if you are interested. Estimate started at $4985, then Chris added $2915 more because he needed more materials than originally estimated. The work was still only partially completed when we made a new plan that would cost me around $900 more to finish the job ($300 labor + around $600 in materials). On the day that work was supposed to start, Chris told me that I needed to pay the materials people directly when the shipment arrived. I called them to pay and they told me the remaining materials would be $1367 for bark and $196 for rock, including delivery fee. That would mean I'd pay another $767 for materials than I was quoted. The frustrating part about each of these increases is that the work is halfway finished, so I have no choice but to switch contractors or deal with Chris again, whose prices go up without advance notice (the materials vendor is the one who told me this new info). read more

Chris knows how to do concert and had plenty of experience. We had a large 54x10 patio done and for the most part I give five stars. It has correct slope to keep water away from my foundation. I looks real nice. I found one imperfection prior to pouring concrete I pointed out that he had a warped board that was off by an inch that could easily be replaced with a straight one. I sent him a text the evening before about it and he confirmed. He lives near Home Depot and Lowe's and could easily pick up another board in the morning on his way in. He didn't. I asked during pour what his plan for this warped form is, he said he has no plan. So I have a not straight line that I will forever notice until I get it fixed when I do concrete over lay. However, the rest of the work is five star. Generally very happy with the product and the price. I would recommend him generally as I think five star concrete work would be his norm. read more

BUYER BEWARE: Do not work with this contractor. You will likely spend more than you anticipated for work that is not done correctly. He does not send out a detailed contract before working with clients. This puts not only the clients but himself at risk. When we stated we did not feel comfortable continuing to work with him and asked for a refund, he refused and said he didn't need to since we wouldn't be working with him again. The property manager for my home brought Chris in to replace the front walkway and redo the stairs into the home. He refused to send me an invoice until the first payments were made--which needed to happen via Zelle and/or Venmo, in my instance I had to do both over multiple payments to get it to work. I wish I would have taken this as a sign NOT to work with him, but I didn't and that is ultimately a $14K mistake that I have to live with. He was told multiple times that we wanted a thin walkway/to keep the look and feel of the original design. However when trying to choose material he informed us that he would need to go wider to accommodate a certain border. We chose NOT to do that border, but he made our walkway significantly wider anyway. The design layout/his artistic vision did not look like what we initially discussed. We had to ask him to remove/return the material and go back to the original design that we had before demo. And he said to make the walkway thinner and we'd just have to fix it with sod in the spring. He puts in the walkway, and the bricks/spacing is not consistent but it was acceptable. Until we walk on it and notice that bricks are shifting and it feels unstable. Chris told us that it will "settle"--however multiple construction contacts tell us that it's not done well and when we brought up our concerns to Chris, he said he'll take care of it. (Update we can STILL pull up bricks with our bare hands--confirming that not only is it unsafe, it's poorly constructed). After telling us it was fine to use, he said he would come back and fit it in the Spring. Given the experience, lack of detailed planning/communication and complexity/uncertainty around payments, I do not feel comfortable having Chris come back to fix the walkway. I asked for a refund to cover the cost of getting it redone in the Spring, and he said he had no obligation to do so because we aren't continuing to work with him. I told him that ultimately, the impact of a negative review could cost him more money in the long run than providing the refund and I guess we will see if that proves to be true or not. Then, we get to the front steps. He told us on numerous occasions that "the steps will look exactly the same" and that he can get the same brick we originally had. Demo day shows up and he tells us that he called around and can't find the brick that we currently have--which I would assume could have been ordered if he had sourced proactively, but at this point, we were already behind our project timeline. We find a solution and the project is pretty much done and then we realize--he completely omitted the larger landing we had at the top of the stairs/the door can't be opened if someone is standing there, and the original railings he said we could repurpose in the concepting phase would cost an additional $2k to replace due to the new dimensions he created. When bringing up our concerns, Chris blamed us because we approved it. Despite repeatedly letting him know that we don't know anything about construction--and that we had told him it looked nice because it did--it WAS NOT functional, and as the "professional" he should be striving for form as well as function. When we asked how it could be fixed, he said we could just combine the front step with the second making it 12 inches high, twice the depth of all the other steps, which are 6 inches. We pointed out that that's a hazard and not up to code. Eventually he says he would redo the project for another $2k. The end result of his "redo" is that the finished product looks shoddily done and is not symmetrical. Concrete is slapped on all of our bricks and we got confirmation by another professional we brought in following the conclusion of this project, who informed us that this will be very difficult to get off because of how thick Chris laid it on, which will cost me more in the long run. Given his responses to negative review from others, I have no doubt that he will try and refute these claims, state that we weren't clear, etc--but as a business owner who failed to send out a design comp, an invoice until he was paid, and gave us little to no documentation about the details of this project, I am at a loss as to how people without a construction background could possibly be expected to do better. We hired what we thought was an expert for a reason--and it cost us time and money that we won't get back. read more

He would be on time everyday and he'd work hard through the whole day and even a little after if he had some minor things to get done. What's in a Review? Well for me, it is an assessment of what a company did and perhaps what they didn't do. My experience with Ragnar Construction was about what they did, and what a great experience it was. My HOA community found itself in need of a good professional building cleaning service, one that would clean from stem to stern--a head to toe cleaning, if you will--for the numerous breezeways on the property and all the community buildings. Ragnar bid the project, which was not cost prohibitive, and then got right to work. The owner Chris and his assistant Lori cleaned both our building's siding, and the exterior breezeway stairs--after years of no cleaning, we were able to see clean buildings for the first time in almost five years. The eyesore of dirt and grime had disappeared, and clean buildings were the result. This construction team is full of good energy and they do their best to pay close attention to detail. I have a major problem going on in my house with mold and a landlord that doesn't want to admit fix the problem. I called Chris and explained my situation to him. He came out to my property within two hours and was incredibly professional and incredibly honest which is what I want. I don't want someone to dance around the truth. I want someone to tell me straight what we're dealing with. He was able to basically confirm my thoughts and fears and allowed me to be able to document and start legal proceedings.
