I was really excited for Raggas to open on Bold Street after experiencing such a great meal and atmosphere at the Smithdown road restaurant but as soon as I saw the redecoration of the interior of the building i knew something was off.
The building use to house Cafe 53, a dated cafe which microwaved your cake by the tills and reminded me of Gordon Ramsey Kitchen Nightmares, so the decoration of the place was pretty ghastly as well, housing decorated plates on the walls, fake flowers and dark green carpets. Now I expected Raggas to look quirky, modern and exotic but instead they decided to paint the interior bright lime and yellow, making you feel like your eating inside a giant citrus fruit.
Now the menu which expanded aswell centred around wintery goat stews and a few items of exotic food with no explanation next to them.Firstly I tried the banana fries, which I know them to be rich and delicious but alas here they were stringy and bland.Secondly I tried the goat curry which was very dry and to my regret was advertised with no spice warning and turned out to be overbearingly hot to even the big spice lovers in my party.
Overall one of the few places in Liverpool city centre I wouldn't dine in again. read more
