I took my 2 year old son here and had such an amazing experience. They have the best set up for toddlers and young kids. Our barber sat him down and allowed us to choose a movie to watch while he cut his hair. The barber was gentle, patient, and kind. My son's hair looks amazing and he had fun too! Last month, we came from Commack to cut our sons hair for the first time. I was nervous of course this being the baby's first hair cut but the set up for the young kids is great! They have little cars to sit in and the baby played with the wheel. The barber put on cartoons which saved the day. The barber was quick, friendly and haircut was great. I looked for a while for a kid friendly spot like this but we decided to drive the 15 minutes and I'm glad we did. It was well worth it! read more

Took my son here for his very first haircut after seeing all the positive reviews. Called the day before to see if we could bring him 9am since it's a little before his nap and I figured he'd be less rambunctious - no problem. We were shown to the kiddie chairs and had our pick. They eventually did a good job, but our barber (didn't get his name) wasn't the friendliest and was extremely distracted both on his phone and chatting with one of the other barbers. I get things come up but when you're dealing with a one year old time is of the essence even when you're not dealing with a potentially scary new experience. Here is what I look for in a good barber: Quick Friendly Cheap Knowledge of current hair styles. (old school barbers just give you a crew cut no matter what you ask for.) Rafael's covers all of these bases and then some. Plus, the place was remodeled recently so it is clean, modern and has a large flat screen TV on the wall. They always have enough people working so there is little to no wait. I think I have had 90% of the guys there cut my hair and every time I walk out with a good cut. Many of them have mastered the art of the '10-min convo' too. Rafael's Barber Shop made me feel like I'm at home. The staff are very open and friendly to any ideas I want regarding a haircut. If they feel something wouldn't be suitable for my face or head shape, they give me a suggestion but are perfectly willing to cut my hair how I wanted it. When I first was trimming my beard, they cut it 4 times until I was happy with the length. Plus their products perfectly hold my hair in place and if I need a quick touch up before a work event, they're more than willing to help. I even brought one of my friends who had trust issues with barbers and stylists due to bad experiences. He walked out feeling like a new man with a strong sense of confidence in his new appearance. Each session they also use warm shaving cream and straight razor to ensure you have the closest shave possible and finish it off with a steaming hot towel to finish up the job. Update: went back again today, asked them to have a barber (Santos) leave his chair open I would be there in 10 minutes, they told me no problem. Upon walking in someone is just sitting down in his chair for a haircut. So I drove out of my way for no reason. The owner offered to have someone else cut my hair, but the gentlemen (I believe his name was sammy) doesn't do a good job. Last time I was in there Sammy did cut my hair, he rushed it and it came out horrible. Honestly I don't really understand why a barbershop wouldn't take appointments. I'm not a picky guy when it comes to getting haircuts, but I find it really difficult to find a place that's fairly inexpensive and does a great job with cutting my hair. I was searching for barber shops in Plainview about 2 years ago and this one had good reviews so figured I'd give it a try. All of the barbers there are really nice and make you feel welcomed. I don't think it's family owned, but all the barbers are Israeli so I think they all knew each other before the barber shop started up (it seems too much of a coincidence that all 6 or 7 barbers are Israeli without them knowing each other). Every time I go they do a great job with my hair. Cost is $15 (which is reasonable) and they actually give you a barber's shave on your neck and side burns (equipped with hot towel) which is a nice touch. I almost always never have any more than 2 people ahead of me when waiting for a haircut (and often I am able to get a seat immediately) so the wait is never too long. Definitely recommended. read more

Well, it's that time of the bimonth that the thing on top of my head had grown out of control, and it's time to tame it again. I saw Rafeal barber shop, sand decided to pay a visit. I had to wait a while, namely 45 minutes exactly. Either these guys are giving haircuts from the gods, or there were just a lot of people there. Given that I was the only one waiting there, it should have been the former. Going into the haircut, he immediately apologized for the wait. I got in the seat, and immediately he knew I had Gel in my hair, and the haircut would have gone bad if he didn't wash it. I opted for the wash, and clearly he knew what he was doing. That was an immediate star. I had told him after the wash that I wanted the sides shorten up, the front shorter so that I could flip it, and the top of my head to fade into the sides. I only got two of those three requests, and I feel like a half shaven sheep now. Not really sure what to make of that... After he cut the front, He blow dried my hair, giving me the shape of an afro poodle, which was alright. I wasn't about to question the master at work. He did an amazing job on the sides, but didn't shorten the top like I had asked. I told him I wanted it a bit shorter on the top , but he insisted that I should keep that shape, and let it grow out. Admittedly, the last barber I went to botched the back of my head, and even he could tell. So I agree with him, even though I now look like a kid from an 80's commercial. He told me that if I was unhappy I could come back and get it done again, free of charge. I thought that was a fair deal, and that I should trust the barber for now. The bill came out to $18 dollars. It would have been $21 dollars, but they treat their first time customers well, and waived the 3 dollar hair wash. I got the hair cut I needed, but wasn't completely satisfied with the one I got. Overall better than most barber shops, but I don't know if I'll be coming back here again. Depends how my Hair grows out. Update: hair actually came out fine. This place is awesome. Not many barbers can do a high and tight razor fade well. Either they mess up the fade or don't even use a razor. These guys take the time to do it right including putting on the lotion before the shaving cream and then some other conditioner when they're done. Then the hot towel to finish it up. Donnie is the man! He's become a fast friend and always goes out of his way to make me feel comfortable. Mike and Santos are awesome too. I never had a bad haircut from this place. Finding a good barber can be hard. I used to have one in East Meadow but it was a hassle to drive there just for a hair cut. That's when I started my search. My new barber would have to be close to either work or home, give a quality haircut for a reasonable price and most importantly be a barber shop. I'm not a salon type of guy. Came here for the second time to get a quick haircut for my son and husband. Definitely come here early on the weekends because it gets really crowded. We came here on Sunday morning around 10:30am and we had to wait around 20 mins. They are open by 8:30am every day. $16 for kids and $20 for adults. They did do a good job on my husband and kids. They also have a kid's section with kiddie car or truck seats to distract the younger kids when they get a haircut. I would go back again. read more

Took our 6yr old son here while visiting for Thanksgiving. We were walk in's who were immediately greeted and advised someone would be with us soon. The shop was clean with ample seating for customers to wait as well as many stylist chairs. They even have a smaller room to the side just for kids with themed chairs and televisions playing movies at every seat. Mike took care of our son and was sooo good with him. My son hates haircuts and absolutely refuses to be buzzed. Mike was patient and worked his magic using scissors only to give my son a stylish do. Everybody at the shop was friendly and accommodating. I only wish we still lived on the island- this would be our spot! Will definitely come back again and again when we're up visiting family. If you're a local, I highly recommend! read more

First time Yelper here, long time lurker. I am from Philadelphia and go to a pretty popular barber shop in South Philly and know what a nice hair cut should look like. I'm visiting family for the past month and needed a haircut so I typed in barber shops near Old Bethpage and Rafeal's barber shop popped up in Yelp. I decided to give it a try based on Yelp reviews. As soon as I walked in I knew I had made the right choice as I met Donnie who was very welcoming and friendly. This is important if I am to trust any establishment with my hair and have to get that feeling that they are going to care about my hair. I had no wait at all as I went today around 2 pm. He showed me a female barber named Dasha. I was pretty hesitant at first because I usually only get my hair cut by male barbers, but I took a chance. She was great. She was very thorough and meticulous with her clippers and paid extra attention to what I asked for. I think she kind of got the gist what I wanted and then used her own skills to cut to my hair. I think is invaluable in a barber because it shows true skills and is kind of artistic to add your own little technique into cutting someones hair. I believe she is Eastern European and did not talk as much as normal male barbers do but I feel that this wasn't out of arrogance more because of the language barrier but this may be a good thing as she is very focused and perfectionist like with cutting hair. All in all I would recommend this place to anyone. The price is very very reasonable and the place is family owned and has an all around good vibe. I only wish it was closer to my hometown in Philadelphia! read more

The first couple times it was pretty good, but this time i got cut by this guy i never seen before and when i asked for a number 3 low fade on back and sides, all he did was use a number 3 clipper and shave everything in the back and sides, with no fade at all and then he asked "anything else?" and i said the fade and he said he already did it but it was the same length all over and now my hair looks so weird and i have to wear a hat for the next week. Great barber shop! Came here looking for a decent place to get my hair cut the way I want it and they blew my expectations away! They knew exactly how the way I wanted my hair cut and even did a quick brainstorm with doing a different cut instead of what I was originally thinking (first cut: wanted a shaved part on each side but thank god they talked to me about it first).Very polite and patient! I'm a very picky person with my personal appearance and asked them to do more than a dozen things and kept asking them about it and couldn't thank them enough! Only problem I had here was my own fault. Asked one of the barbers( i don't remember your name sorry bud!) to do a higher up fade( which he did an amazing job on) but I didn't like at all. Went here for years originally had Donnie and after that Aron until I waited one Thursday for him for an hour. Just as my turn came he blew me off for a young woman who walked in ten minutes before closing time with her two boys! He told me he didn't have time to cut my hair and her two boys before closing! Told me to wait for Donnie! I could have had Donnie cut my hair at least a half hour earlier! Not a nice way to treat a loyal customer. I walked out and never returned.
