While some staff members continue to provide excellent service, my recent experiences highlight several areas that need improvement. Scheduling and communication issues have become a significant problem. My doctor ordered both a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound. During my initial attempt to book the appointments, the first representative was inflexible and insisted I use a different location instead of the Sierra Rose site I requested. On the day of my appointment, I waited more than 30+ minutes past my scheduled time only to learn that the appointment order had been changed without notice. The sonographer performed the ultrasound first, found everything clear and benign, and, after review by the onsite doctor, recommended canceling the mammogram. The sonographer was very professional and thorough; however, the issues were clearly outside of her control. This was a front office and scheduling problem. The overall coordination was poor and confusing. Compounding the frustration, I received a follow-up call the next day informing me that I still needed to schedule the mammogram. This was especially stressful and confusing, as it directly contradicted the previous day's assessment and my doctor's original orders. For the next couple of days, RDC continued calling me persistently about scheduling a follow-up mammogram. The representatives had difficulty communicating clearly, and the calls ended without resolution. I'm also unsure whether it is standard practice to override a doctor's order for a diagnostic mammogram when one was performed within the prior 30 days. Additionally, as a self-pay patient, I was charged a 3% interest fee on my credit card (waived only for cash or check). This practice feels inconsistent with industry standards and adds unnecessary burden to patients. In today's largely cashless society, this feels like an unnecessary burden on patients. Medical practices can typically deduct these fees as business expenses, making it preferable for the office to absorb them rather than pass them on to loyal self-pay customers. It appears the center has undergone an acquisition, and many team members seem to be in training. These changes appear to have impacted service consistency and communication quality. I requested to speak with a manager and sent a follow-up email, but I have not received any response. I hope management will address the scheduling processes, staff training, coordination with referring physicians, and billing policies so that Reno Diagnostic Center can restore the high level of care it was once known for. Saint Mary's Center for Cancer was named the first accredited breast center in Nevada by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. Partly because of the mammogram they provide includes two digitally acquired images of each breast, analysis by the computer-assisted diagnosis system, a radiologist's interpretation, and your final report. It makes sense to undergo this test and discover any problems early or give yourself peace of mind. They're located on campus behind the main hospital and offer convenient structure parking. 10/19

The payments processed correctly for five months and then suddenly stopped due to an issue on their end. I never noticed because it was on autopay but since the payments stopped, I started receiving past-due and collection notices even though I had set up autopay specifically to avoid this situation. When I called, they confirmed something happened with the account on their side but still expected me to immediately pay the remaining balance. I continued paying my agreed monthly amount, yet I still received a notice saying I defaulted on the payment plan. The balance itself was small, but the billing process and communication were frustrating and disappointing. Patients shouldn't have to deal with collection warnings because of internal billing errors.

This is not a "simple kidney stone"; it is the exact pathology identified at the first ER. Abnormal Lab Results: My urinalysis showed Trace Protein and 1+ Ketones, which indicates my kidneys are under stress. Medication: They administered Ketorolac (Toradol) at 6:32 PM. Toradol is an NSAID that can be hard on the kidneys; given my history of kidney failure, this needs to be monitored closely. Breach of the Standard of Care: This occurs when a provider fails to provide the level of care a competent professional would. (e.g., dismissing an acute UPJ obstruction as "chronic pain" without new imaging). Failure to Diagnose / Delay in Diagnosis: The refusal by SMRMC to perform a new CT or MRI despite worsening lab markers (Protein/Ketones) and a 1.9 cm lesion. Patient Abandonment/Violation of Rights: Repeated requests for a Patient Advocate were denied, and call buttons were ignored. Our experience on the medical-surgical floor was appalling. My family member was placed in an…read moreextremely cramped room with two elderly homeless patients from a shelter who were belligerent, fighting, screaming, and yelling at staff. One used a bedside commode only inches from her bed. The environment was chaotic, frightening, and completely lacking in privacy. After we requested a different room, she was left in a public family waiting room for more than three hours. Basic requests for water and assistance with painful, bloody IVs were repeatedly ignored. Nurse Camille was rude, confrontational, and dismissive of legitimate medical concerns. When we attempted to escalate those concerns, Charge Nurse Grace supported Camille rather than helping us obtain appropriate medical attention. Most disturbing, Grace repeatedly refused and physically blocked our attempts to speak with the House Supervisor. She told us, "He will not come down for this. He is going to follow my leadership." She also responded to our concerns with, "It is what it is." A charge nurse should help patients access the appropriate chain of command--not stand in the way of it. The lack of compassion, professionalism, privacy, and concern for patient safety on this medical-surgical floor was shocking.

My insurance requires that I go to St. Mary's, and quite often I find St. Mary's less than spectacular. However, today was stellar. Mario was the technician, and he had an assistant (whose name escapes) me started with a short explanation of how the test was gonna go. They told me would take about 10 minutes and that's about how long it took. They prepared me with an IV for the dye. They help me get comfortable and then allowed the machine to do his work. After it was all over, I told Mario that I accidentally parked in the emergency area, and he escorted me through the emergency room so I didn't have to walk on the outside of the whole hospital. From start to finish the whole process of a double CT scan took less than 45 minutes. I think that is record time for entering a medical facility for an appointment.
