Finding a good, authentic BBQ pit around Delaware is already hard, but having it operated by a Filipino family is just darn rare! The fact that this place offers real American BBQ with a twist of Asian flavors like stew and rice and chicken Adobo is just unreal. The spot is strictly a take out joint with a few seatings outdoor. The store also offers authentic Filipino snacks and grocery, ranging from Ube (taro) ice cream to homemade biscuits. I opted for ribs, briskets, Italian sausage, chicken kabob, pork kabob, baked beans and a bottle of root beer. Now dig this, all that was for $19!! I'm not kidding! Where the heck do you go to get that kind of food for $19? The ribs were definitely the highlight, absolutely tender and fall off the bones flavorful. The brisket came in pretty close, you can see that pink smoke ring on the meat, a good sign of slow cooked BBQ. The baked beans was surprisingly good, it even had some pork belly to re-enforce that amazing BBQ flavor. Overall, this is one of the most delicious and unique joints I've been to. Ordered a pound of pork bbq & a side of macaroni and cheese... the pork was WAAAYYY over sauced... I'd say 1/4 of the pound was just sauce... which tasted like store bought. The meat had more fat than actual meat and just wasn't good... I don't like my bbq swimming in a sauce & fat mix like it's some sort of stew... won't be going back. read more

I always request fatty parts, and they were nice enough to give me as much of it as possible. But the leaner parts were way too lean for me. If you like your brisket leaner & a more boiled texture, you may feel differently about it. I stopped by Racks BBQ on New Year's Day with my mom. Last year, my parents and I started a tradition of having BBQ as our first meal of the new year, given that that pulled is the most delicious way to eat pork. This year, New Year's Day fell on a Sunday, so our usual BBQ standby was closed, as was another stand that we stopped by. Given that I'd bookmarked Racks some time ago and that their hours stated that they were open on Sun., we headed over to check it out. After perusing the offerings, we ordered 2 lbs. of pulled pork and large sides of mac and cheese and baked beans. The pulled pork was served with a smoky, sweetish tomato BBQ sauce, and was quite good. The meat was moist and savory and didn't have any discernible fattiness, but some of the ends were a bit tough. The sides were alright, but nothing too special. The baked beans also had a smoky flavor, but the sauce was a bit watery for my taste, and the mac and cheese was pretty standard. The meal was quite filling and satisfying, and my parents, my brother, and I were generally happy with it. While it may not be immediately apparent, Racks also serves off-menu Pinoy (Filipino) dishes such as chicken adobo, pancit, and lumpia. When I asked whether Pinoy dishes were served, the proprietor became quite excited, asking me if I'd had them before (I have in Ambridge, PA near Pittsburgh with my Pinoy ex-BF, who attested to their authenticity). She explained that she keeps them off menu due to the miniscule size of the Pinoy community in DE, though I also suspect that the unadventurous culinary tastes of the non-Pinoy locals play a role (I can say this given that I'm not Pinoy myself and grew up in the area). If you enjoy trying hard-to-find ethnic food, as I do, be sure to inquire about the Pinoy dishes--though they may require advance notice to prepare. While the BBQ here is decent, I'll stick to my standard because it's just that dang good. However, I'll be back to try the Pinoy dishes, for sure! read more

What a stellar little hidden gem!! We stopped here on our way back down to Virginia, and this place was so much better than we expected! We just happened to turn into the first place that caught our eye when we started getting hungry, and we were pleasantly surprised to discover that this isn't your typical BBQ place; they serve both American BBQ and delectable Filipino dishes (adobo, caldereta, etc). I ordered a half BBQ chicken, and my husband ordered a beef brisket sandwich. Both were melt-in-your-mouth delicious! Masarap!! We also stocked up on Filipino cooking supplies from the grocery section, since it's hard to find sinigang base, shrimp paste, Mama Sita's BBQ sauce, and ube in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. We went out of our way to find a roadside BBQ on our 6h trip. As you would expect with any serious bbq connoisseur, we ordered the brisket and the ribs. Although we arrived an hour before closing, it looked like they were about to lock up. They pulled our order from a fridge, and put it in a microwave. I imagine this is not how a serious bbq joint warms its food, but we were happy to be served. Unlike Texas style bbq, which is our fave, the offerings here were heavily sauced. The ribs were impressively tender, and earned a solid 4 out of 5 stars. With that said, the brisket was incredibly unimpressive. Compared to the ribs, there's really no reason to ever order the brisket. From what we could tell, this venue has no restrooms (although we didn't ask). It also has no where indoors to eat, although there's a couple benches outside. The lady running the shop was very friendly. If we're in the area again, we'd consider stopping in for the ribs. It's worth mentioning that the grocery portion of the store has novelty snacks (packaged foods from outside the US), which one member of our party very much enjoyed. read more

What a pleasant stop today. Got the pulled pork sandwich and ribs. I always like a clean place and this is one of them. Walking in a pleasant hello and explanation of the menu. Brief description of the offerings and instead of a hard sell, offered the modest priced food. Very friendly as I stubble over myself while looking at the menu on the wall. Not only was there a hint of smoke in the air but both of my selections had the same. I like where I can still have the smoke in the meat without the sauce covering it. A pleasant smoke taste, mild sauce with little hints of sweet and bite. The meat was moist, tender and cooked just right. The after taste was pleasant,clean and memorable. Nice hidden gem to visit. It seems the only place to sit and eat is a couple of tables outside. I ate in my car and don't consider this a reason to knock this place. read more

I'm very grateful this place exists. Being so far away from what is familiar, I found myself longing for food from the motherland. The sweet woman running the business warmly welcomed my husband and me like old friends even though it was our first visit. Needless to say, I got very excited upon seeing the selection of Filipino groceries (especially the ube ice cream) and wanted to fill up a basket with goodies, but our hunger took precedence. The menu board displayed several BBQ options, of which the owner highly recommended the pulled pork sandwich. She also let me know she made other Filipino food that day, such as caldereta, menudo, and bangus. I, of course, chose caldereta with rice and my husband had the pulled pork. Could not be more pleased with both selections; while the pulled pork was delicious, my husband said he actually preferred the caldereta after he had several bites of my lunch. (Awesome, now I have to ask my mom how to make it for him at home.) Thank you, Yelp, for helping me find this place. Yes, yes, yes. It's 4th of July weekend, the start of a heat wave and it's too hot to cook, but we were craving BBQ. I took to Yelp to see what our options were and this place was rated highest. It's a quaint little shop with a bodega feel and the woman working was more than pleasant. She noticed my new face and asked how we heard about them and I told her, Yelp. I brought the food home and dug in. I got the pulled chicken sandwich and my fiance got the half chicken and we shared mac and cheese. As soon as he took his first bite, he said "I'm getting this again." The meat literally fell off the bone and he had destroyed it in under 8 minutes. My chicken sandwich was big enough to share with my toddler who has a big appetite. It's too bad they were out of cole slaw, since I find it to be a staple of a BBQ sandwich. The ribs fell of the bone and melted in your mouth with a nice smoky BBQ flavor. The collard green were well seasoned and contained a good amount of pork. In addition to the BBQ, they carry an assortment of unique Asian grocery products. The 2 woman working there were friendly and knowledgeable, I assume they were the owners. This place has some good BBQ. I have been there twice and enjoyed the chicken, pulled pork, and ribs. One of the things I enjoyed the most was the collard greens - very good. Some of the other sides looked good as well - I liked the mac and cheese. This is pretty much a take out place and they have a small grocery store as well. Little lady from the Philippines runs it (very friendly) and she stocks Philippine foods for the grocery store. If you go there late, she might run out of some things, so try to get there early if you want full variety. Not exactly the best looking location, but that's just how a lot of good BBQ places are. read more
