One of the best BBQ in Delaware!
    Luan P.

Finding a good, authentic BBQ pit around Delaware is already hard, but having it operated by a Filipino family is just darn rare! The fact that this place offers real American BBQ with a twist of Asian flavors like stew and rice and chicken Adobo is just unreal. The spot is strictly a take out joint with a few seatings outdoor. The store also offers authentic Filipino snacks and grocery, ranging from Ube (taro) ice cream to homemade biscuits. I opted for ribs, briskets, Italian sausage, chicken kabob, pork kabob, baked beans and a bottle of root beer. Now dig this, all that was for $19!! I'm not kidding! Where the heck do you go to get that kind of food for $19? The ribs were definitely the highlight, absolutely tender and fall off the bones flavorful. The brisket came in pretty close, you can see that pink smoke ring on the meat, a good sign of slow cooked BBQ. The baked beans was surprisingly good, it even had some pork belly to re-enforce that amazing BBQ flavor. Overall, this is one of the most delicious and unique joints I've been to. In Delaware, it'd be hard to a place to top this, highly recommended!! Special shoutout to Fay for being so friendly and awesome! You definitely made me feel welcomed! What a way to run your business making customers feel like family!

I love specialty food stores with any selection of authentic ethnic groceries. This place has a lot of great Filipino items: frozen cassava macapuno ice cream ube popsicles salted duck eggs frozen blood dried salted fish shrimp paste bags of sticky glutinous rice shrimp chips Mochiko glutinous rice flour Mama Sita's sauce seasoning packets cans of coconut milk canned jackfruit cold cans of coconut juice drinks pancit noodles & seasoning candy & cookies Pretty cool! We came here to try their bbq, & I'm sad to say that I wasn't super impressed with it: Brisket - a boiled texture, which isn't my thing. I always request fatty parts, and they were nice enough to give me as much of it as possible. But the leaner parts were way too lean for me. If you like your brisket leaner & a more boiled texture, you may feel differently about it. Wings - flavorful, sticky with a nice sauce, i liked these better than the brisket Beef Rib - big, meat falling off the bone. The meat itself didn't appeal to my tastebuds, and I'm not sure why. We didn't try the sides, but based on the meats I wouldn't come back for the food, I'd come back for the groceries!

Pulled pork, baked beans, and mac and cheese

I stopped by Racks BBQ on New Year's Day with my mom. Last year, my parents and I started a tradition of having BBQ as our first meal of the new year, given that that pulled is the most delicious way to eat pork. This year, New Year's Day fell on a Sunday, so our usual BBQ standby was closed, as was another stand that we stopped by. Given that I'd bookmarked Racks some time ago and that their hours stated that they were open on Sun., we headed over to check it out. After perusing the offerings, we ordered 2 lbs. of pulled pork and large sides of mac and cheese and baked beans. The pulled pork was served with a smoky, sweetish tomato BBQ sauce, and was quite good. The meat was moist and savory and didn't have any discernible fattiness, but some of the ends were a bit tough. The sides were alright, but nothing too special. The baked beans also had a smoky flavor, but the sauce was a bit watery for my taste, and the mac and cheese was pretty standard. The meal was quite filling and satisfying, and my parents, my brother, and I were generally happy with it. While it may not be immediately apparent, Racks also serves off-menu Pinoy (Filipino) dishes such as chicken adobo, pancit, and lumpia. When I asked whether Pinoy dishes were served, the proprietor became quite excited, asking me if I'd had them before (I have in Ambridge, PA near Pittsburgh with my Pinoy ex-BF, who attested to their authenticity). She explained that she keeps them off menu due to the miniscule size of the Pinoy community in DE, though I also suspect that the unadventurous culinary tastes of the non-Pinoy locals play a role (I can say this given that I'm not Pinoy myself and grew up in the area). If you enjoy trying hard-to-find ethnic food, as I do, be sure to inquire about the Pinoy dishes--though they may require advance notice to prepare. While the BBQ here is decent, I'll stick to my standard because it's just that dang good. However, I'll be back to try the Pinoy dishes, for sure!

This is my number 1 go to place for all things Filipino NOMS! She almost always has kare-kare ready for me whenever I make the random trip up from South of Dover. She's also one of the sweetest nicest you'll ever meet ^_^

Ms. Fay (I may be spelling it wrong!) was a delight as she navigated us through her thoughtfully prepared Filipino dishes, proudly proclaiming, "Home made!" with a beaming smile. Everything from the pulled pork to the ribs, Kabobs, kielbasa and sides of potato salad and macaroni salad were incredibly yummy and worth the trip!

I decided to try Uncle Johns because another place that I wanted to get food from wasn't open. I had the brisket plate for take out so I can eat it for lunch on my break time at work. The brisket was pretty good, tender some and with the added bbq sauce gave it good flavor and enjoyable to eat. My side with the plate was the potato salad. Pretty good as well, very homemade and enjoyable as well. It also came with cornbread. Now the cornbread was absolutely amazing and probably one of the best I ever had. The sweetness of the cornbread was just right and perfect. For desert, I added the peach cobbler which was also delicious. Great service as well.

There is duck bowling, which means they're small balls and pins, but they're only four lanes, so if you don't make a reservation, you won't be able to bowl. The families that were playing were enjoying themselves. I would come here to bowl and have specific, easy-to-make drinks. We grabbed seats at the bar because the restaurant seemed full, and sports were on the TVs. The bar seats were comfy, with backs on them, and there was a bar to rest your foot. It took a minute to get service, as it seems the bartender is the only one for the whole place. Maybe they need another bartender when the bowling alley and restaurant are both complete. I had an espresso martini, which was too sweet for me. My husband had a mule and thought it was good. My second drink was a tall Titos vodka soda. The bartender informed us that the menu changes on Tuesday, so they have no more crab, which is what I wanted. I was going to order the crab dip and the seafood mac & cheese. We pivoted to fried green tomatoes that were a little too breaded and cooked for me, but the sauce was good. We did get the seafood mac & cheese, but it did not have much shrimp on it. The shells were overcooked and combined, so you had to separate them and cover them in sauce, or the bite didn't have enough flavor. Also, the cheese sauce was a little soupy.

The interior has a dimly lit warehouse feel with predominantly vinyl booths. The first thing I noticed was much of the seating in most of the booths were worn and torn. I find this to be a turn off due to sanitary conditions being compromised. I found one Booth that had two separate vinyl chairs on one side that were not damaged. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. They explained the procedure to choose whether we wanted Hot Pot (soup) or the barbecue option. Each table has built in induction cooktop burners with a center shallow wok. We all chose Hot Pot. (Soup) The waitress takes our order for our soup base and then we choose the proteins and vegetables we want to add to the hot pot from a tablet. There are also choices of starches, like rice, noodles and dumplings. The soup base arrives first and you can adjust the temperature of your own personal cook top burner, then the accoutrements arrive. Most of the proteins are slightly frozen, and rolled neatly on their serving dishes. I particularly liked any of the dumplings. The meats were so thin that they can be easily overcooked. The vermicelli noodles were very good and cooked perfectly in the broth. Everything was fresh and the broth I chose had a good flavor and was not over salted. It's all you can eat so you can try another broth or get a refill on the same one. The same with the other ingredients. They do serve alcohol & dessert which are not included in the all you can eat price. Soft drinks are. They mentioned they had an appetizer bar that was included. It contained a small section with some cut up fruit. Then several containers of sauces that you can mix and match. Then there were some french fries and some type of breaded fish or chicken tenders. I didn't find it appetizing. I think better options and more of them should be added. I think this is the type of place, you need to experience once. Definitely good for a group of friends and those that want to try proteins that just aren't available anywhere. Personally, I just don't care to cook much anymore so when the waitress asked if there was anything else she could bring us, I said a chef. We all laughed.

I did argue the $32 price point because I'm a vegetarian and did not want to be paying for tons of meat options I would not use. They were nice enough to check with the manager and give me the lunch price. Overall, the place is set up for larger groups and seems clean enough? The bathrooms were down right gross and head signs, warning people that things could fall. Very weird.
