I find that I generally do not like female physicians. In fact whenever my husband suggests that I visit a doctor of this gender I cringe inwardly. However, Dr. White is an exception to this. I actually like her quite a lot. She is a very knowledgeable and caring doctor as well as being pleasant in personality and demeanor. She appears to be passionate about what she does for a living and I always believe this is important when selecting a doctor because there really are too many who are not. I chose to see Dr. White for two reasons. The first is to manage my thyroid issues. The second is because I would like to have a seventh child and would like her to assist me with managing my nutrition and blood sugars prior to conception and during pregnancy rather than going to Obstetrix in San Jose. Most doctors can mange thyroid problems so an endocrinologist is not a must. I have previously seen an endocrinologist in San Jose who closed her practice and moved to another state. She was nice but seemed to care more about creating repeated appointments than the issues she was treating. I have had family doctors in the past who tested a couple times a year and managed my prescriptions just fine. I have also had my obgyn manage my prescription as well. They were all adequate but I do believe that Dr. White is more knowledgeable and concerned about dosing the medications than most doctors are. Dr. White explained very thoroughly about the dose of medications and all the things that might affect if/when my dose will need to be changed. In the past most doctors preferred to stick with whatever dose the particular pills come in even if it might be slightly more or less than what I need. This is not the case with Dr. White. She is meticulous about getting the right dose even if that means breaking up pills or taking extra or fewer pills to get the correct amount. I think this is rather refreshing because the dose being off even slightly can result in unpleasant symptoms that can be a part of the condition. I also appreciate that she is not concerned with the number of appointments that a patient has but rather just what it takes to give the treatment a patient needs. This is especially important for me because I am traveling quite a distance for these appointments. She is also not stingy with her time. My appointments were quite lengthy and well over what I have ever had with any doctor previously and I greatly appreciated the time she spent and the quality and thoughtfulness of the advice. As I am working to prepare my body for another pregnancy it is important for me to plan for care regarding my blood sugars and potential gestational diabetes. In the past I have had incredibly unpleasant care from Obstetrix in San Jose and after the last pregnancy I knew I would never go back to that place again. Dr. White has demonstrated far more professionalism in two visits regarding the issues of nutrition, dietary advice, and blood sugar monitoring than I have ever received during several pregnancies with Obstetrix. She was pleasantly easy to work with and gave constructive advice in a positive way without ever being condescending. She is far more knowledgeable than the staff at Obstretrix to be sure. I am certain that she will be a wonderful fit for my care during my future pregnancies and that is a huge relief. I would very much recommend her to others and anyone not happy with the Sweet Success program at Obstetrix in San Jose. read more

Dr. White is the best endocrinologist I have worked with (I have worked with plenty being diabetic for 24 years). She was totally dedicated to me and my complicated pregnancy and on top of my blood sugars, seeing me 1-2 times a week for my entire pregnancy and making sound adjustments for me. I ended up delivering my daughter in the middle of a Friday night and she remained on call for me (hourly) throughout the entire labor and unplanned C-section, even calling in if the nurses didnt report back to her in a timely manner. She monitored me all on her own personal time throughout the weekend - including coming in daily to see how I was doing. I would not trust anyone but her with my diabetes care. Compared to any endocrinologist I've had (any doctor for that matter) Dr. White is the best by far! I honestly can't say enough fantastic things about her. During my first appointment, Dr. White sat down with me to get all of my medical history, did an exam, and talked with me about what our goal would be moving forward... it took nearly an hour. It was so nice to have a doctor spend that much time with me. My second visit probably took just as long and was spent going over lab results, of which she gave me my very own copy and explained in detail what all the numbers meant. You can tell she has a genuine concern for her patient's health and their knowledge. Dr. White let me know up front that she is not one of those doctors who will make adjustments to your care without you understanding why. As a person who asks a lot of questions and wants to know all the details about my meds or insulin pump settings, I really love that about her. She is so hands-on with her approach to patient care, she's even personally called me twice. I have never had a doctor call me for any reason... it's usually a nurse or receptionist. Speaking of nurses and receptionists, this office employs the nicest ladies ever! The time spent in the waiting room is also a pleasant surprise, taking on average about five minutes. Believe me, after moving five times since being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, I've frequented plenty of doctors offices and none have been as welcoming and friendly as this one. This is the doctor I've seen only once and ran away quickly, because I felt like she is completely not knowing what to do and what is happening. "If you had normal periods it means you have never had problems with hormones", she said to me. This is only one example of nonsense I've learnt during that hour. She also looked at me like I was a hypochondriac/simulant and told me my symptoms were normal and I am just thinking it all out and I might have never had any illness (my blood work was not ideal from the previous doctor, but it surely showed something (Hashimoto) ). All she could do is to switch my hormonal medication rapidly just because nobody does it with Armour anymore. She also offered to me some 'new' fancy analogue of levothyroxine that you could only buy through them and which was not covered by insurance and which was 'better' than other generics. This alone is a huge red flag for the doctor... I am glad I've found a better doctor after a while which listens to me and can explain what is happening and why and improve my condition. PS. Not to mention that to visit Rachael White you first wait 30 minutes in a wait room and then you wait about 15 more in the doc's room alone and receptionist tells you the doctor is reading your case in this time. Initially I thought that Dr. White is a good doctor and that's why I took my wife(gestation diabetes) to her . I still agree that as an endocrinologists she might be good but she is quite rude . At least that was the experience that I had , many times she tend to insult me due to unnecessary reasons. Once I was late by 10 minutes as I got stuck somewhere (my wife was in her 9th month at this time) . When we reached she yelled at us , she did not give any extra time from our 30 minutes she just reduced 10 minutes. This was not one off case I believe this is her regular behavior , I don't know if it biased towards few or overall. I could not say anything to her because my wife being pregnant was consulting her and I did not want to disrupt the process in between . Few days back even when I cancelled an appointment , she still charged me the fees .I will not comment anything on her medical skill but as a person she was not good or supportive to us . I have taken decision to change my doctor . I expect a basic respect , trust and support from my doctor , Dr White failed to have these human values. read more

I can see why the previous poster mentions the micromanaging and patient relations problems. Sadly, like many providers, Dr. Bendele wants to be the boss and does not appreciate patients who are informed, advocate for your own well being (as it is YOUR body), and expects her treatment to be the #1 priority in your life. She herself and her office staff do use the "guilt trip" mindset as a way to get things done. Word to the wise, if a doctor gets his/her undies in a wad because you want a different doctor within the same practice (which is well within your right), it is a sign to go somewhere else. Patients deserve better than a provider (or their staff) on an ego trip. I am also very happy with Dr. Bendele. Frankly she is the first doctor that I feel has given me complete and meaningful information about my Type II diabetes. She is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and very easy to work with. She has called me on her own time on multiple occasions to discuss my blood work and progress. This review is for her Office Staff Specially for lady named Wendy Despite not receiving Co-Pay /Insurance statement Lady called me and talked so rudely like she is Debt collector and I am running out with her million dollar balance. She was telling me that we are ignoring sub 30 $ co-insurance due after insurance settlement. Dr. White does not seem to enjoy what she does and it shows. I was going through a very tough time in 2017 and believed that my hormones were imbalanced and decided to go see Dr. White. She was condescending and judgmental during the appointment and it seemed that she couldn't care less about me as a patient. She yawned through the appointment. When I was explaining my past medical history to her and I mentioned a test result with a male hormone she said "yes, I'm aware of that" sarcastically. I was only trying to discuss a test result, not tell her something she already obviously knows. When I told her that I had been stressed due to several things in my life, she suggested that the Bay Area is not for everybody and I should consider moving somewhere less stressful. So inappropriate. I came to her to get medical help, not relocation advice. I feel that there was nothing I could've said to make her like me or want to help me, her mind seemed made-up and I really feel that I got the bare minimum of help. I don't think I've ever met a doctor with a colder demeanor. I can't speak to her knowledge or skills because I only saw her for the initial consultation and I was so disappointed I went elsewhere. read more

She is good at explaining in detail. However, it's also her downfall. I found her to be too much of a micromanager and discouraging to say the least. She and the office can definitely improve on how they deal with patients - making patients feel bad for rescheduling and choosing a different doctor of choice. After three appointments with her, I've decided to switch to a more seasoned endocrinologist highly recommended by others - Dr. Peter Sklarin at the Menlo Clinic. I'm very happy with him. read more

Dr. White is wonderful. She takes the time to ask pertinent questions and listen. I have never felt rushed when meeting with her. She made me feel as though making me feel better was a priority. I was very lucky to come across Dr Bendele. I have never been to a Dr that explains to you in details what your diagnosis is, what your treatment options are and answers all questions. I actually ended up with an appointment with Dr. Bendele because the doctor I requested was not taking new patients. BEST THING EVER. Dr. Bendele is young...and eager....and VERY thorough.
