Such a lovely place. It is huge. There two entrances btw. You can easily get lost here but it's worth it. A lot of interesting things to see and it has so much history. You see a lot of cute bunnies too. There was a spooky spot though within the woods, I think someone late at night was doing some weird ritual I dunno, maybe they cleaned up by now. But that was kinda cool stumbling upon that. Then a good old penis drawn on a tree LMAO Like I said lots to see if you go OFF trail.............

Don't worry, I let it go on it's way.

One of my favorite spots to go hiking; with and without the dogs. You can go off the main paths onto forest trails and never get lost. Hike along the water creeks; when the brush is cut back. (In March/April) If your a biker they have some serious bike trails. Bring your binoculars to checkout all the birds. Lots of wildlife, if you like tracking trails or finding paw tracks from raccoons, coyotes, deer, etc. Love walking by the creek to find stones, searching for arrowheads (still haven't found any, yet) or watching the frogs. Even finding snakes or finding animal bones.

Raceway Woods is a great hiking trail. It's pet friendly, bike friendly, hike friendly and all around friendly! The main trail runs over the old race track, so you can experience all the dips and turns that the old time racers must have took. If you are a dirt bike trail rider, this place has what looked like some great paths for you to take. The trails are very well posted and the area is beautiful.

Bags are there, you can bring some to donate also and there's waste baskets to dispose. 2 unisex bathrooms. They were clean and stocked as of yesterday (5.23.22) it closes at dusk. Lots of friendly people I've met here so far and it's great for all ages. You can walk the dogs around the park too. This is free so no one mandates the vaccines or pets but it works out fine for me. It's worth visiting and letting the pups play!

Schweitzer Woods Forest Preserve and Dog park has been a savior these past 9 months!…read more I've taken my dog to this park many times over this past year and he truly enjoys to socialize with all of the dogs and owners. Perks are large enclosed wooded area, free entry, sunrise to sunset access. Most of the owners are responsible and friendly, but we have run into some owners who should take more responsibility over their wild pets. There are two enclosures: a larger area (where most of the bigger and socialized dogs play) and a smaller area for tiny or dogs that aren't ready for large group play). We haven't had any issues with ticks or fleas yet and my dog is treated. It's important to check your pets frequently after woods play. I do believe that the park cleans it but I'm not sure of the schedule of how frequently it happens. On numerous occasions I have spotted the same poop and throw up in the woods. I can't believe owners just leave their poop without cleaning up after their pets. Y'all have to do better. Overall, it's a great place to bring your pets for exercise and socialization. See ya there.

The scenery at any type of year is also beautiful. Positives: Beautiful scenery; plenty of areas to park; bathrooms available but closed due to COVID; around busy streets so you are not alone in the middle of nowhere, busy; near a hospital Negatives: It crosses a lot of streets, I know that it's not easy building bridges over every street, but it does add concern for safety; not as many spots with benches to take a seat (not a big deal); part of the path runs along a busy street, which may be a bit dangerous for some areas It's a very pretty area and I enjoyed the path.

I'm sure there are other easy entries as well -Nice long trails for the good workout/run -Decent for biking -Good markers guiding you along the trail The bad: -Most of it is out in the open. Doesn't have that enclosed forest boulevard feel -Again, since it's open, it gets unbearable to walk after 11 due to the sun and heat -Wild grass growth all over the main trail path -Markers have no distance mentioned on them. That's just sad now.. -Lot of fake white stone gravel everywhere. Just why.. I've been to some good unpaved hikes in NC and none of them have this Decent trail overall but you're better off trying to find some other place. I need that nice cool natural forest feel, like the NC trails. If you know of any such place, let me know!!
