Texas got plenty of rain over the last few weeks which should have made the course pristine. There was overgrowth everywhere and grass cut in unnecessary areas. I literally lost a ball that we all seen down the middle. The first cut of the fringe was higher than you see in the tour, or even the Quarry course (if you're from here). There were actual flowers grown in the traps. Speak the trap, rock hard less than an inch down. They need to shut this course down for six months, and get it together, or either start paying people to play it vise the people wasting their money. I didn't see or play the Loma course today however on the drive out I could see that the #2 green was tore up like the green in my photo. Don't waste your money!

Situated off Rochelle Drive, this used to be not just a range, but also an executive golf course, perfect for a quick and enjoyable round of golf. Alas, the course was closed, and the location is reborn as the Wylie Range. The executive course is now in disrepair, overgrown with weeds and bushes....a pity! Behind the diminutive club house is a cricket field, used by certain leagues throughout the season. The very real advantage of this range is its unique (for our area) double decker design, with hitting off mats on the first and second floor. (This two story design is very common in Japan, which I spied on my trip there a few years ago, given the premium on real estate in major cities there.) But the advantage in our city is the respite from the sun during practice. And should the intrepid golfer prefer grass, there is also an area left of the main area for that type of practice. The staff is always pleasant and welcoming, and the facility offers clubs for sale (I am unsure if the pricing is competitive) and offers some club repair. Lessons are offered by the pros at the range, adults and youngsters often seen taking advantage of this feature. One feature of the range is that the terrain drops away from the hitting area, which I find somewhat difficult to determine actual distances I am hitting, despite markers that one can target. But this is perhaps just my particular issue. Balls are of newer Callaway range balls, in contradistinction to some complaints from a couple of years ago, some complaining of old, shoddy balls. Sadly, the short game area is definitely lacking, with bunkers filled with pebbles and overgrown with grass. The chipping grass is marked with weeds, and the larger putting area did not survive the summer heat: dead grass, not even tended today. This is a major disappointment, as years ago, the putting area was large and of different breaks that would allow development of skill with this aspect of the game. But given the shortcomings of the short game area, the double decker range is a blessing for our climate during the summer, and in truth is my "go to" range for that one reason. If you love hitting balls, but do not want to suffer so much with the sun, visit the range on Rochelle. I think you will enjoy the experience!!

The high point was that they felt badly for my kid and had him free golf balls along with informing us of the kid friendly days of the week for us to come and they gave us a full refund. The experience was terrible for us, but they did everything I imagine they could to make it possible. Then we went to the driving range off of blanco and had fun.

We had a great time and I went away feeling this is one of the few public courses I've played where I had a mid-level country club experience albeit at a public course. Very nice, clean, well maintained facilities. Air conditioned restrooms at the clubhouse, one on each nine and one at the turn (including the well stocked snack bar). Great hill country feeling with beautiful views, very tame deer and fairways lined with some beautiful homes. Fairways had good grass for just coming out of dormancy. The greens were quite large and long. Good quality grass although a little sparse, creating very fast speed and some difficulty in getting the ball to stop on putts and approaches. Experience and local knowledge gained this trip will be a big help for future rounds. Very large driving range with artificial turf and Top Tracer access. Nice practice putting green. Two VERY large longhorn steers in a small corral adorned the first tee/ninth fairway adjacent to the snack bar at the turn. All the staff and marshals were very friendly and helpful. The cart girls had great personalities, were very helpful and made the rounds regularly. Full bar and lots of cold beverages on board. Very fair prices for refreshments. The only thing missing was ball washers but not a huge deal. Good value for money, especially if you sign up for one of their discount programs. I look forward to returning soon!

Over all the course was in good shape, some of the greens were a little bumpy. But not enough to spoil the round. There is a small driving range and a putting green available for warming up prior to your round. I will definitely play here again.

I DO NOT like the shotgun start they do on Saturday mornings. Avoid at all costs. This causes five hour rounds. Way too many people playing at the same time. The sand traps are like concrete with a light dusting of sand the greens are readable and inconsistent. It is an absolute shame for the layout of this course is very nice. The resorts too highly of their course and doesn't really put in an effort to maintain the course. If you are local to San Antonio or traveling from out of town there is much better selection of courses outside of La Cantera

Played under a 4 hour pace and enjoyed all the amenities including the GPS in the cart and the frequent opportunities to eat and drink throughout the round. While similar to the Palmer Course (should be since they are adjacent) - Palmer course was in better condition tee to green and was more visually pleasing since it sits higher on the hills. The resort course does play next to Six Flags Fiesta which offered some interesting views as well but the Palmer course was a cut above for whatever its worth. One point of interest/annoyance... Opening hole is a 660+ yard par 5. It is significantly downhill with a prevailing downwind so I'm guessing it plays more like a 550 yard hole. While the hole itself is fun to play as you don't often get to see/play holes that look like that - any avid golfer will tell you that it takes a couple of holes/swings to groove oneself into a round. That's why a lot of golf architects start off courses with relatively modest length, easier holes to allow golfers to segue from the driving range into the round itself. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me to start the round goading a player in to swinging out of his/her shoes. Nothing good comes of that. Starting the round with a lost ball or an OB doesn't allow one to set a good tenor for the day. I'd consider swapping the 9s. But what do I know - I don't play on tour or run a course.

This course is one of the oldest courses in Texas and was the site of the Texas open. It was a cool chilly 60 degrees but it was fun! I used rental clubs and it amazed me how many holes I could play when the ball just rolled on the ground. I lost a ball but I never went into a bunker. YES! The carts have GPS and although I missed my range finder, it was still fun! It took a while but I eventually figured out the clubs and after that it was smooth sailing! I usually hit a draw but driver wanted to do a cut so after I gave up and let it do its thing, everything was great! They give out Callaway golf clubs. They told me the clubs were about 6 months old I played with someone that knew the course and I had fun as he informed me about the course history and Texas in general. 4 hour round and it was just an amazing, fun course. I wish I could have another try but this is a memory I won't forget. On the last hole, I was supposed to take one extra club and when I looked at club I used - uh oh, wrong club and into the water. But I hit it perfectly! I took more club, choked down and hit it to 3 feet. So for the conditions - there is a nice roll on the drives, the greens were aerated but still good. Very windy and it was fun to deal with the wind!!!! This is beautiful golf course with tons of history! Love this course! Thank you Brackenridge golf course!
