Absolutely fantastic retro game store that I visited in Tampa earlier this year. The staff was very attentive and seemed to have a wealth of knowledge on everything in their store. It is awesome to see stores like this taking so much pride in preserving the physical media of the past. There is so much value in that and I for one truly appreciate this store. Also taking pride in this work are the staff. The pricing of a lot of the retro games is fair considering many of the games are no longer available and hard to come by. Retro games, especially ones that were popular back in the day, only grow in value as our nostalgic minds yearn to play our favorite childhood games again. Though I didn't end up buying any games (only because I was just in town for just a day or two), I did manage to play one of their Japanese coin machines. I am a HUGE Psyduck enthusiast and I saw one of their machines had a DANCING Psyduck toy in it! So, I got the appropriate coins from the cashier (they don't use regular coins). I only had enough for two items, so I did my first try and got a Wabbufet. Which is nice but it's NOT psyduck. I was nervous I wouldn't get my dancing duck but with hope in my heart and psyduck on my mind, I put my last coin in and turned the dial. After I heard the plastic ball capsule reach the dispense area I nervously reached for it. "Please be a dancing yellow duck" I said to myself... and I slowly opened the capsule and... A DANCING PSYDUCK WAS IN IT! I was so thrilled that I screamed lol it was so much fun and I just feel like this silly story does a great job at capturing the vibe of this location. Getting excited while connecting with our inner child. My inner child was healed a little more by the time I left Thanks to R U Game for the incredible service and the incredible experience. I bought a used PS5 game as R.U. Game Fowler last Saturday. I was told if FOR ANY REASON, the game did not work, they would extend a store credit or exchange for a game of equal value. Well, it had a problem 3 times mid-way through the install process, and I was never able to get the game installed on my ps5. I updated my ps5, and still it would not work tried to take the game back today, on day 7, and was told I could not return the game because they were able to install it on the store's ps5. So now Im out $20 and a game I cant play. So much for customer service. If you are out here in the market for a pre-played game, go to Gamestop, as R.U. Game does not honor their word. Basically they robbed me for $20. I will never buy from them ever again, and will let anyone know I can how they treat customers. Untrustworthy, dishonest and terrible customer service is all they offer. read more

Was completely ripped off selling to them. I received $45 dollars for 3 systems and didn't notice until i got home (it was a huge lot). Never sell to them unless i want to hey low value and have to monitor that untrustworthy manager Robert Bashline. I was told I would be compensated. That was a lie! read more

Checked out another used game shop for holiday gift ideas. They're also running a b2g1 sale like the big chain. I noticed the prices are about on par, a few a little higher, a few a little lower on the specific titles I remembered from the other stores l. Sadly, they didn't have any of the little kid games for ps3 I was hoping to pick up for my Nephew. The shop has games for every console you can imagine going back to sega saturn, atari, etc. There are also a good deal of collectibles and other goodness on display. The fella behind the counter when we stopped in was friendly and approoachable. I'd definitely say give them a check out. read more

This sits in the University Plaza by Jason's Deli. They had some pretty cool deals such as buy one used game, get one for 1/2 off. Their selection was good, the prices were more than fair. Each game was about $9 and under. The staff was nice and asked us if we needed any help. They have old game system games too like Gameboy, action figures and toys. We didn't buy any games since none of them interested us but it was a cool place to check out. read more

While seeking some different and more rare items, I exhausted my usual local retro gaming retailers and gave R U Game in Tampa a visit. I was pleasantly surprised with the selection and variety! They have a nice array of games (both NAmerican and imports) for multiple consoles. I mean these guys don't just have games for the "major consoles", but have stuff for the Sega Saturn, Panasonic 3DO, Sega Master System, Atari Lynx, PC Engine and more. They also have a nice selection of English translated repros and custom cases for games. Some hate custom (not original) cases, but what would you rather have, a bare cartridge? Or that same cartridge in a nice looking case for the same price? I'll take the case, original or not! My only small complaint about R U Game is that generally the sticker prices do seem a bit on the high side. Luckily they seem open to negotiations based on current market value, and may wiggle a bit based on that data. I will say, I did not attempt any trade-ins here, so I cannot speak on their trade-in policies or offers. All things considered though, this is a highly recommended retro game spot where you're likely to find a hidden gem or two! I've been around the scene and believe me, this is one of the better retro gaming stores in Tampa Bay. read more

This store opened a few months ago in Tampa near USF and the University Mall in the Sweet Bay plaza. It's similar to Play N' Trade and has your retro gaming needs, but what seemed to be a better stock of current generation video games as well. They have some DVDs as well. It's great to see new video game stores taking root, many of them have been starved to death by Gamestop's rapid takeover of the video game scene in the last ten years. R.U. Game? has all your old systems in case your Nintendo 64 dies (as 2 of mine have), the prices are similar to Play N' Trade, and the employee in the store had far better service than any Gamestop I have visited. They buy, sell, and trade video games. We chatted about the latest games coming out and he was happy to take any suggestions I had about adding certain games as well. I'm really happy about this place and wish them the best of luck. There is a huge retro scene today and real gamers will certainly enjoy the beauty of an independent game chain. Read some of the negative reviews on here. I do not agree with them, the OP's lack knowledge about the retro gaming market. The prices were fair here. Good selection. They even had a buy two get one free deal. A super Nintendo game back in the day ran for $30+ new and even more depending on the game. You can get common games now for extremely low prices, obviously the more in demand rare games will have a higher price which is to be expected. These are collector items from the past and one day will be relics. Buying a digital copy of super Mario Bros or buying a physical copy matters! In comparison to Play N Trade, this store was many notches below as to what a retro gamer is expecting. Assosiates were eating greasy pizza at the counter, made the store smell disgusting. The selection is really bad and worse the prices are top retail..even more than what a retailer should ask for. I was looking for GameCube games and the selection was absolutely dire. Maybe 20 games at most. Also, they don't accept American Express. Rule #1. Never go into retail unless you can accept any major credit card. Either try play n trade or continue shopping online. Fun shop with friendly staff. As most stock is used merchandise, it changes regularly, so it's worth multiple visits. They carry used games, accessories, and consoles. They carry NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, WiiU, GameBoy, color, Advance, DS and 3DS. Sega Master system, Genesis, CD, Saturn, Dreamcast and some 32X. PS1-2-3-4-PSP, Vita. XBox, 360, xbox1. There are some other console games as well from Atari. Sega Saturn and CD are lacking compared to others but nobody really caters to those consoles. They also have comics and some vintage figures, some older strategy guides and some gaming memorabilia. No complaints, all that I have bought have worked. Prices seem fair, being retro stuff, it's all over the place but certainly not unreasonable. read more

I'll gladly make the trip from South Tampa. As opposed to Gamestop, who seem set on feeding the AAA, sixty-dollar addiction with zero retro stock, this place has carts to the heavens and plenty of Gamecube/PS2 discs. Brought my Playstation in to get fixed. The employee said it would take "a couple days." I called him after four days for a status, and he said that he hadn't heard from the "guy who fixes them." I inquired about my unit one week later after no response, and the guy was snippy, saying that he would call me when there was a diagnosis. Over two weeks passed without a word from RU Game. I called again and found out that my Playstation was brought back to the store the week prior, and they didn't bother to call me up. The employee on the phone (a different one) was friendly. He stated that my Playstation was not fixable, but was unable to provide an explanation why and did not know the diagnosis. If I don't get an explanation after a second inquiry, I'm taking it somewhere else for a diagnosis. read more

This store is a great place for old school cartridges and game systems. They also carry POP vinyl figures and Magic the Gathering cards, as well as many other video game related items. The employees are friendly, knowledgeable, and approachable. And yes, before you call and ask, they do have Battletoads in stock. read more

Good assortment of games but prices are too expensive and above eBay and Amazon listings. Value for trade ins are extremely low compared to what they should be. You get about 25% of the actual value and they don't take into consideration any value that comes from original manuals or boxes. Really picky about what they accept in trades as well. Really nice place! The guys are super knowledgeable and friendly. I get the feel a mom and pop shop in there. I don't feel like I am just feeding a corporation that doesn't care. I feel like I am shopping with cool people who love games and are awesome to those who come in! This place has been nothing, but good to me. They always beat Gamestops trade values, so when a new game comes in I always bring in my stuff to preorder. read more

We've traded in many games and systems for double and triple what competitors wanted to give us. Great selection of games between this and the Brandon store. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS STORE! I spent over 50 dollars for an xbox wireless adapter at this store. First off the adapter was used, -untested-, and once I got it home.... also broken. I took this item back to the store and was REFUSED a refund of my money. The employee was rude and his lack of customer service skills and experience were obvious as he stated it was 'company policy' only to offer store credit even when I continued to state the product was broken to begin with (I was assured a full refund at the time of purchase two days ago, yes they do LIE). The store was really great and had a fun atmosphere, I was talking with the employees about video games and they seemed pretty knowledgeable about them, the only complaint I have is that at times the man with the beard would on multiple occasions cut off the other employees mid sentence and blurt out what the other employee was already saying, other than that the store is great and I would recommend it to anyone.
