I called Sutherland to get an estimate for replacing my water heater after my neighbor's unit…read morestarted leaking. Since all of our homes were built around the same time, I assumed my water heater was also 17 years old and might need replacement soon. After I sent photos of my water heater and the model details, Ti took the time to look up the serial/model number on the Bradford White website and discovered that my unit was actually only 11 years old, not 17 as I had thought. He texted me back and asked for clearer photos to confirm the manufacturing date. I called him right away, and even though I currently have no issues with my water heater, he generously spent time explaining everything in detail. He told me that Bradford White is a very reliable water heater and that this model generally does not require routine tank draining for maintenance. He also gave me valuable advice for the future, recommending that when I eventually replace the unit, I should install it on a metal drain pan with moisture detection for leak protection. I was genuinely impressed by his honesty, knowledge, and willingness to help without trying to sell me something I don't need right now. He could have easily pushed for a replacement, but instead he gave me thoughtful, professional advice and saved me unnecessary expense. I truly appreciate the time he spent helping me over the phone, and I would absolutely recommend Sutherland to anyone looking for an honest and knowledgeable professional.

He also listened to my warranty situation with my particular unit and price break down if I were to go with another plumber qualified for the warranty service. I appreciated that he was upfront with me about everything and never tried to push me into replacing it through his company. He was very honest about what their price would be compared to going through my warranty and what if he would do if he were in my situation. I am extremely grateful for the honest work that this company does.

He said ge would not service it because it will only make it a couple of weeks. They charged me $89 anyways. I called and got a refund since they refused to service it. Nice that they refunded money for service they never performed. They gave me an estimate of over 10k to replace it. I called clean air act. They serviced it up and said it's still has a lot of life left. Now 2026 Chris is texting me wanting to service it on a special of $49. Why? So they can refuse to service it again? They only want to replace units not service them. Here is a picture how they left it last summer. Refused to clean it too. It is still running strong.

I almost fell for this trick. But as he pressed me to make an appointment, he asked me what kind of a/c unit I have, which is an odd question for someone who has worked on our equipment previously. I then asked him directly, "Have I done business with you before?" No response. So I asked again. No response. It turns out, I have no record of doing business with Conrad Heating & Cooling, because we have never done business with this company! I told him I would not be scheduling anything with Conrad. This representative didn't even know what type of unit we have, confirming there was no prior relationship. The familiar tone of the initial text was a deliberate tactic to create a false sense of trust. And I find that very offensive! I'd encourage other homeowners, especially seniors who are frequently targeted by this kind of approach, to read unsolicited texts carefully. If a company implies they've worked with you before, ask specific questions before agreeing to anything. In this case, the deception became obvious very quickly.

This was last week. We scheduled an estimator, Jeff, to come out and evaluate our needs and replacement cost. Jeff came up with two sets of numbers, one without and one with Energy Trust of Oregon grant deduction. We just had to qualify for the trust funds. Jeff got to work, and called me back the next day to let us know we qualified! We signed the contract Wednesday and the work began yesterday 3/15. Sean and Cash were here by 8:30 and completely removed our old system. With just a minor few issues, they had our new heat pump, air exchanger, and smart thermostat done within 9 hours time. I truly appreciate their hard work, their diligence, and their professionalism.

I had Central Heating and cooling come out to work on my fire standing glass fireplace. I gave them…read morea great review for that work and the cost was dear as they replaced a unit an d cleaned the glass on the front of the fireplace. This was last spring. I did not use the unit until it got cold last October and when I turned it on, I noted several cracks in the glass. I had other work being done and got the opinion of two contractors , both who stated it was due to how the glass was replaced. The cracks were like those of when a rock hits the car windshield, and travel, right where the pressure points that hold the glass in place are. I had NW Gas come out for other reasons and look at it as well. That worker stated the same opinion. I contacted the company and it was several attempts before I got a response. I was asked to send photos, which I did and for more than 3 months, no one responded to my concerns. After leaving several more messages, I got a call from someone who said the employee who did the repair was no longer with them and the cracks probably happened due to a build up of pressure from fumes?? I challenged this because it was never used after they did the work and no buildup of anything would have happened if the previous work was done correctly. After another call, I was told they wanted $120.00 to come and look at it. AT this point, I felt the avoidance of embracing my concerns would lead to no where and the lack of responsibility and the manner in which this was handled demonstrated a total lack of responsibility and clearly sabotaged the first impression of them being a quality company. The cost of a glass replacement is dear and the continuous avoidance of even looking natural it demonstrated the integrity of this company. The positive reviews are only half of what tells if a company is professional and one that can be trusted. Experiencing what I did makes Central Heating and Cooling the worst I have even hired. When the flip side of the coin is played out like it did with me, it shows the integrity, which is the backbone of worth.
