I received a phone call this morning from Brad the owner of this business. He apologized to me for the phone call, and explained that I was giving the wrong information. He said the price for a residential home was more like $45-$75. Much more reasonable. He mentioned that he was going to have a discussion with his employees and train them to better answer questions, to customers who call.. He also told me that the person on the phone did not actually hang up on me. We were disconnected. He said he strives for better customer service and quality work. I hired Clog Pro to connect my house to city sewer. My home in Vancouver was built in the 1950s…read moreand had a septic system rather than being hooked up to the sewer. My understanding is that if the septic tank or drainfield ever needed replacement, the city would require I hook up to the city sewer. I decided to have that done now rather than having to do it in an emergency in the future, or having a future owner of the house deal with it when they wouldn't know what obstacles there are in the ground to have to work around than I do. I used Yelp reviews to pick two contractors to get cost estimates from. One was located in the Portland suburbs and one in Clark County. The cost was expensive but I expected that because the hookup needed to be a pumped system that goes around the yard and up the driveway, not a simple gravity connect from house to street. One contractor indicated I should initiate a hook up permit to the city so I went there. One of the tasks of the job was right-of-way work in the street to hookup to the sewer that runs along the middle of the street. The city gave me a list of contractors who are on their approved list who have done that work with the city before. I looked through the list and didn't find either of the contractors that I had picked so far, but found one that looked like a possible third option- Clog Pro. I didn't look into Clog Pro prior to that because I figured from their name that they specialize in unclogging drains and pipes rather than other plumbing work. But their web site listed sewer connections as one of the things they do. So they came and looked over the project and gave an estimate. Discussing the job with the Clog Pro supervisor (Jesse), his understanding of the job impressed me the most, although the other two companies probably would have done a good job also. Also, Clog Pro's price was lower than the other two. I hired Clog Pro. I had always dreaded going ahead with this project because of the things that could go wrong. For example, the sewer pipe had to go close to some wires in the ground that control valves for my irrigation system, and I was worried they might be damaged. But the project went incredibly smoothly, no problems. From when I first got the estimate it was only about two weeks until the job was completed. I would never have thought that this job would go so smoothly. I am extremely impressed with the job they did, as well as how reasonable their charges were.

Now I was not going to be going into work on Monday after a heatwave weekend without bathing. I found Clogpro on Yelp and they answered the phone on a Sunday and the gentleman who answered said he had a tech available! Josh showed up after about 30 minutes after calling and he was able to figure out what was going on. I think we had a stubborn clog but he was able to clear it out after several tries. I was so relieved. The final cost was the same as I was quoted and was a reasonable price for the amount of work and time he spent. If we ever get another clog, we would not hesitate to call Clogpro. I am so thankful that they were able to help us out on the weekend with no extra weekend surcharge.

We needed a hot water heater to replace a broken one. American Plumbing Services installed the…read morewrong kind of water heater. It looked like a sloppy job (see pictures) and the workers were very rude. When we asked questions, the owner of the company threatened us. We paid the company in full the very next day, just to put the whole thing behind us. But almost immediately we started to notice an odor, which started in the water heater area and progressively got worse throughout the house. It became so bad we finally called NW Natural Gas to come out. Sure enough NW Natural Gas determined that there was "major spillage" of exhaust into our home as a result of the work this company did. NW Natural Gas proceeded to turn off our gas service to the water heater and Red Tagged it (see pictures) leaving us without hot water. We had an inspection performed on the water heater by the City Of Portland Bureau Of Development. The inspection results confirmed that American Plumbing Services did not perform the work to code. We still needed a working hot water heater. So we chose to have the repair work done by a different plumbing company - one not associated with American Plumbing Services - for the commercially reasonable price (multiple bids were acquired) of $1,850. We sent Anthony Johnston, the owner of American Plumbing Services, a certified letter explaining these facts, enclosed a copy of the chosen plumbing company's receipt for $1,850, and we asked for the $1,850 to be reimbursed. The owner of American Plumbing Services responded with a short phone message saying he "disagreed" with the letter and would not be sending us the reimbursement check as we requested. When we called him back, he reiterated he wouldn't send us the check and declared: "You don't have that many options available." American Plumbing Services chose to dodge responsibility for their mess. We're very unhappy with them.
