Good drinks and decent atmosphere. Some of the bartenders are more friendly than others, it feels very cliquey at times. There was a few Don't Tell Comedy shows in the back but I haven't seen them come there in a while. Food is usually great just as it is at Kay's. Only giving 3 stars because I have lost count how many times I've had my nights disrupted by planning to go down there for a drink with some friends to find that they abruptly closed before the advertised closing time. They vaguely state closing time as "till Close" without a specific time, but in many of their social media posts they list specific times and I've planned around those several times only to find the door shut and lights off with a sign on the door OR getting turned away if they're still inside cleaning. It's frustrating. Sadly there are not many liquor-licensed places in Orcutt. It's still worth going to get a drink or food, just make sure you have a backup plan. read more

Everything I've had is super good, I am going off memory here folks: -Steak with risotto and rosemary butter was great -lobster Mac and cheese was great -chicken fried sandwich great -all the drinks are great, my friends love them -awesome atmosphere, I wish they did more social stuff. Decided to give the place another shot. Still a disappointment. Must be different management for Kay's restaurant during the day. Social media posted they had a DJ Friday night from 7:30pm until 10pm. Arrived around 8pm. Walked in thru the restaurant and was greeted by waitstaff prepping for the next day. Music pumping but less than 20 people there. The outdoor patio is STILL underwhelming. A nice man working there was turning on outdoor heaters and was welcoming. Again, lack of wait staff outdoors. Saw a bartender and one waitress who didn't bother to greet us or inform us you have to order drinks at the bar as there is no service on patio. Maybe menus on tables or any kind of signage letting patrons know the flow would be nice considering the night staffs lack of interacting with customers. The blank canvas outdoors has so much potential to elevate the place. I understand that years back it was a parking lot for customers but it still resembles food establishments throwing cheap patio furniture in parking lot to appeal to customers during Covid. They really need to invest in making it more welcoming and comfortable if I'm throwing back a $15 cocktail while leaning against an employees pick up and smelling the dumpsters located behind the other bars and restaurants. Who ever owns this place should stop in and see if the night management is up to par. If it is currently, I likely will never return. So much potential but not hitting the mark. I can listen to music, sitting in my own driveway throwing back a drink while being ignored by "staff" for free. No cover charge to sway to repeated spins of"Return of the Mack " was the only positive note for this second go around of disappointment. On a side note, who runs their social media? The lack of response on their socials is telling. They need to stick to breakfast. The night life they are trying to sell is falling flat. read more

Food was very delicious. Filet mignon was very tender and juicy, mashed potatoes were very soft and buttery. Server was very attentive and food didn't take long to come out. In the back of the restaurant is the bar and they have plenty of indoor sitting as well as outdoor. read more

I was under the impression that this was a separate restaurant, but it is within the same building at Kay's Country Kitchen and simply their bar area. Had I known, I would not have come here as I was looking for somewhere nice to take my partner for lunch. The food that arrived about 50 minutes later (unsure if due to lack of attention by server or a busy kitchen) was good, the service was severely lacking at there was only one server back there who was paying attention to her friends at the bar, doing drink tricks over her friend's FaceTime call, and forgot multiple items from our order, despite us reminding her multiple times. Just learned about this bar in O-Town and I will be back for sure. The bartenders kill it with their tasty specialty drinks. Great place to chill and enjoy a Lebowski (White Russian) with friends. Okay y'all I finally made it back to the R Bar for another try. My experience with this place is 1-1 and I was so hopeful this time would be better.. and it ABSOLUTELY was. We walked in to watch the football game thinking the restaurant side was open (it wasn't) but staff were SO quick to get a table situated for us as soon as we got there. In walking back to the R bar tables I mentioned to the server I was sad the kitchen was closed because ice cream sounded good and by the time we got to our table (less than 3 minutes) ice cream was there for us. They have a TON of options in regard to drinks and even have a "Dry January" mocktail section the drinks were delicious and the staff were thoughtful, quick, and had great drink recommendations. They were attentive and really made it a great experience! The R Bar is a small location in the back of a restaurant and it truly feels like its own experience, small and intimate and very welcoming. Worst dinner experience ever! We decided to go here for a quick girls night with our daughters. They both wanted burgers and we know Kay's has great burgers so thought it would carry over to dinner. First, we order sodas for the girls (7 year olds). They arrive in what must have been 32 oz glasses! WAY too big for a kids drink. We asked if she could bring smaller sodas for the kids, which the waitress did. Then we decide to order a beer. The waitress took our order then came back to say they didn't have the beer we chose. So we each chose a different one. Off she went and again came back saying they didn't have that either. She then offered to go see what they did have and would come back....10 minutes later we have placed our drink order, not really our top choice, but OK. Then we start to look at the menu. It was very minimal, which is OK, but it better be great food. There was only one burger on the menu and it was a double cheeseburger on a pretzel bun. We asked if they could do a kids burger and were told "no, it's a fixed menu". We then asked if we could just get a single patty...."nope, it's a fixed menu". Are you kidding me?!? You can't just take a patty off? So each of the girls ordered the regular menu burger with no lettuce, tomato or onion. After a short wait, the food starts to come out. The burger arrived dry with no sauce or cheese.....and they forgot that we ordered two burgers! So they had to get the other burger order cooked. Our food arrived - nothing special. I ordered fish and chips, it was decent but nothing to write home about. My friend ordered a steak plate appetizer, that arrived with none of the salsas listed on the menu description. After a pretty short wait the other burger comes. When the waitress goes to set it down, she knocked over my daughters orange soda and spilled it all over her! Thank goodness it was the smaller one. I started to mop it up with my napkin and she ran to get more towels. After she cleans it up she disappears and forgets to offer my daughter a replacement drink or bring me a new napkin....getting those took me walking up to the cashier. We ate our food and the girls wanted dessert but we just couldn't fathom the thought of spending more money at this place. The bill was $105 for an appetizer, three dinners and drinks. Not terrible, but we actually at some point said we should have just gone to McD's. That's pretty pathetic! We won't be going back....and my daughter just reminded me that the bathrooms were disgusting. Unbelievable! read more

This restaurant has only been open several months but they're doing their best and I applaud them for it! Billy and Alyssa are a dynamic duo behind the bar between their personality and hustle to work as a team to make their guests happy. I usually sit at the bar corner if I'm by myself for an old fashioned or when I'm with some friends on a weekend night we enjoy the atmosphere at the high tables. The lighting sets the mood for a nice dinner but beware the smalls community comes in there usually to vibe and it can get a little loud but I don't mind it. It almost feels like Mason Bar in arroyo grande but with the Orcutt love. Since they are still brand new I notice their menu has changed several times in the couple months and being that they are a small kitchen I'm patient with the changes and understand the limited short and sweet options. You must try their wedge salad and fried chicken sandwich! Then finish off with carrot cake if they have it! My only suggestion is that they hurry up and expand to fit more people in the bar area because the atmosphere fits the bar better than if you have to eat in the usual Kay's restaurant for dinner. read more
