So we went down to the lounge to have some drinks and celebrate the start of our lives together. We were greeted by a truly friendly bartender and a small handful of locals and passerbys. Everyone there was more then happy to join in on the celebrating the occasion with us. Fast forward 3 years to today, we are back in Mauston visiting family and decided to stop into the Emerald Lounge and reminisce on our first night in here 3 years ago as newlyweds. Different Bartender, different faces, same friendly environment. I can not recommend this place enough.

We were there for the weekend staying at the Best Western attached on a Friday and Saturday. We loved the first bartender we had Connie on Friday she was very friendly and nice to everyone she was great. She always has been a good bartender every time we have been there and she was there we were excited to still see her there. Not so much with the next person that came in I'm pretty sure she has never bartended before and could use a course on customer service. We were not at all impressed with her. She was working on Saturday night when we went back up there. We thought we would give her another chance that lasted about an hour and we went somewhere else in town. They need to look at getting a different bartender before they lose more customers. We won't be going there when she is working if we do decide to go back.

Feeling adventurous, I ordered a drink with lots of ingredients I'd never heard of. The bar tender was fantastic and made the drink while explaining to me the different flavors of each ingredient. There's also a performance room, and I wish I'd had the chance to see it in action! According to the bar tender, they host plays, music, and even drag shows! Rarely do I find such a treasure in rural Wisconsin. I can't wait to return, hopefully someday soon!

I saw a lot of martinis and cocktails coming out of the bar. There are waitresses, but it looked like just 1 bartender. She was BUSY! Waitresses were just standing there while the 1 'tender was working her ass off. We sat at the bar and barely got service because she was so busy. I of course don't know how the place works, but it seems like someone could have helped her. We only stayed for 1 beer and left because we couldn't get any of the bartender's time. It would be a cool place to hang if maybe we sat at a table. (I felt out of place being in my Packer's gear.) I see they do live jazz music. That might be worth going back for someday.

I was supposed to be meeting a group elsewhere nearby when our original place closed without warning. So we headed to The Mason and it was a delightful experience. It's a small place so it can get loud when busy, but our group had a great time and we enjoyed the place. It is a dark, neighborhood type vibe.
