Petrack Plumbing - Newly installed toilet

I have hired Petrack Plumbing several times. Here are summaries:…read more Appointment #1: The plumbers removed an old utility sink and installed a new utility sink in my laundry room, removed a 1970s-style wet bar in my living room and capped its pipes, and snaked a gutter pipe outside. Afterward, my new sink and pipes worked great. Appointment #2: The plumber used a camera to determine why my gutter drain pipes were not draining properly. He determined that a dry well/pit in my yard was full and needed to be replaced. Appointment #3: A different company had installed a new washer and dryer in my laundry room, and they caused a gas leak and did not level the washer and dryer. Petrack Plumbing arrived at my house in less than one hour. The plumbers reassembled my gas pipe, and they leveled my washer and dryer. Then they charged me $0! Appointment #4: Petrack Plumbing flushed the pipes from my gutter downspouts to my dry well/pit (*different* downspouts, pipes, and dry well than months earlier). They said that my gutters and downspouts are probably clogged and that my dry well might be full as well, but my dry well does not need to be replaced because it can overflow down the hillside. Then Petrack Plumbing replaced a leaking copper pipe in my basement. The pipe had a pinhole, so the plumber replaced that section of pipe with new copper pipe. They said that the other copper pipes in my house are the thicker-wall Type L pipe, so they should last for more decades. Appointment #5: My hot water heater and expansion tank were about a decade old and probably nearing the end of their lifespan, so I hired Petrack Plumbing to install a new water heater and expansion tank. Two plumbers arrived 1.5 hours early, but they did call in advance for our consent. They spent 2.5 hours doing the installation. At the end, they explained to my husband and me what the different parts do. The plumbers had noticed that the old expansion tank and pipes were connected to the hot water rather than the cold water, so they installed the new tank and pipes in the correct location. This extra work cost a little extra money, but the final price was still a couple hundred dollars less than another company's estimate.

(I should start by mentioning we don't know which location this was from, but as one branch shakes,…read morethe whole tree moves.) We made an appointment for our boiler furnace check up and reset thermostat. We were given an appointment window between 8:00-12:00. It's now after 4:00 and still no one showed! We called them around noon and were told we indeed have an appointment. The worse part for us is that my husband scheduled off for today so we could do something together. Instead we wasted an entire Friday waiting. No calls to apologize or explain. What kind of company does that?! So, at 4:30, the McVay guy showed up. 4 and a half hours past the window time given us! He looked at thermostat, saw it go blank, and informed us we needed a new one at $285! We declined. Turns out, our thermostat needed new batteries. So, not only do they not honor appointment times, they try to sell highly marked up products to people that don't need them. Too bad they can't be honest and punctual, they would get life time customers. We will certainly never use them again.

We had a split system installed by McVay (then Arendosh) in 2022. We were referred to them through…read moreLowe's. The installation was fine despite them having to come back out twice to handle some issues. At the time of our installation we contacted the office to purchase an extended warranty (which would cover labor and parts) on the units. The woman we spoke to couldn't find the information about it and would contact us back. We called back several times and were told they would get back to us but we would still be able to purchase the warranty and that they would even back date it for us once they had the info. Arendosh was purchased by McVay and fast forward, we had them come look at the unit due to some leaking issue and they sold us on a whole house plan. The plan would require a monthly fee but they would come out at designated time throughout the year to check the various systems to make sure everything runs the way it should. Another time they can put to look at the slimline units because one didn't seem to be adequately heating. The service call was in excess of $200. We were advised that the cost to repair for the two year old unit would be in excess of $700 for the labor as the part was covered. We again contacted them about the warranty that we had been trying to purchase and we were again told someone would contact us back. We called leaving physical messages as well as messages left in a voice mailbox which also went unanswered. Considering we were not satisfied with their service since becoming McVay, we told them we wanted to cancel the whole house maintenance plan and was left via voicemail that we would only be able to cancel it at six months and that they would charge us back for any work done that was discounted. Amazing!

This time it bit me right in the butt or should I say pocket book. When I asked Justin if he had ever replaced a shutoff valve before he answered "oh yea, many times" So I let him proceed with the job. After several hours of watching him get very frustrated trying to piece back the pipes he already cut I became concerned. He was struggling and pulling on the pipes and I was, and still am, worried that there will be future leaks elsewhere. After he figured out how to put it all back together I could not believe my eyes. What was once a very neat area of piping now looks like a hair scramble of copper pipes. There are many angles and turns which look to me as being a very unprofessional job. He was definitely relieved that there were no leaks. After him being here for 4 hours he hands me the bill which I could not believe. $797.00 dollars!!! To fix a shut off valve in my laundry room. When I questioned him he stated he was here for 4 hours at $130 per hour and that included the parts. When I mentioned how displeased I was with the bill he didn't blink an eye. Shame on me for not asking for an estimate before allowing him to start the job, I never thought he would take advantage of us and charge that much. Now my drywall is cracked and the area that once looked very nice now looks horrible. I would not recommend Simonic plumbing to anyone due to the workmanship and outright gouging of the charges.
