Please read CAREFULLY. The only professional in whom I have confidence at this facility is Dr. Mark Wilson (though, in fairness, I have never interacted with Dr. Walz). However, and this is a BIG caveat, please be prepared to wait, sometimes a very long time (PAST your appointment time) to be seen by him. Normally annoyed by this characteristic in a service provider, I have simply learned to deal with it (bring a book... a LONG one, maybe multi-volumes) to while away the time (in their BEAUTIFUL offices). Dr. Wilson is worth the wait. Knowledgeable, caring, personable, LISTENS, and empathic. Again, I've never seen Dr. Walz, so I have no opinion regarding him, but, in my opinion, the time spent with others (punctual or otherwise) is not time well spent. GREAT office staff. read more

Yesterday, November 5th, 2023 I had my 2nd procedure performed by Dr. Vanderwerf. He did a fantastic job on my nasal surgery and opening of my nasal passages and a slight lift on my nose, absolutely fantastic results. I'm 35 years HIV positive. In August 2017 I tested positive for MRSA that I had since 2008. My doctor then told me there was nothing wrong with me it was all in my head. Today I went to Dr. Vanderwerf to check on my status since I had another positive test he was very flip about MRSA and HIV. He didn't even swab my nose to see if I continue to be MRSA positive. Healthy people die every day with MRSA. MRSA is a death sentence for HIV+ people. Then he pulled some crap out of his head about me not having sinusitis. I underwent a thyroid biopsy and was told the results would be available "by Friday." No call , l so I telephoned the office to see if the results were in. I was told they had the results, but that only the doctor could tell them to me. I waited for a return call and when it didn't come, I called back. The office was closed. I accompanied my 92 year old mom to Dr. Vanderwerf. We asked him about a clacking sound that my mom hears when she goes to bed that is increasingly keeping her up and he said he doesn't know but did not ask any additional questions. He also did not offer any possibilities. He performed his perfunctory mouth, ear and nose but didn't add any value as an ENT. He was LAZY. Friendly front office staff. Comfortable waiting room. Fairly easy to make appointments. Just like any Doctors office there is always a wait. Medical assistants were helpful. Dr Vanderwerf is more than just a ENT doctor but also plastic surgeon. He had better than average people skills. Aside from diagnosing my tonsilitis he was able to take the time to answer other questions without making you feel intimidated. He looked into my nose and moisturized it to alieve my chronic stuffiness. He gave me good recommendations aside from taking nasal sprays. Went in with sinus headache, have them often, Dr. Vanderwerf diagnosed it as a migraine. What? Even I know I didn't have symptoms that fit migraine. But I went along with it, foolishly, all the way to a CT scan of my brain and visit to neurologist. Headache moved into my sinuses and then went away, just like in the past. He completely ignored my own experience and what my previous ENT said. Later I had a bleeding incident that docs at Eisenhower Emergency diagnosed as broken blood vessels in my throat. I then developed a chronic sore throat. I wanted to see someone else at Desert ENT but they refused, had to see the doctor I saw previously. Dr Vanderwerf did a quick look and discounted what docs in the emergency room said, he says it was a result of my acid reflux. He said go to a gastro doc. The gastro doc says it was not related to my acid reflux, but was post nasal drip. Ok. So after 6 months I still have sore throat. Will not go back to Desert ENT. Maybe have to go to LA to find competent health care? read more

Just had major sinus surgery carried out by Dr Vanderwerf and I'm completely delighted with the results. It was a complex operation including rhinoplasty, turbinate resection and polyp removal. All went amazingly smoothly and I think he did a great job straightening my crooked nose and reprofiling it exactly as we discussed prior to the operation. I went to Dr. Vanderwerf for an irritation in my throat. He gave me a very thorough initial examination. He took the time to answer my questions and address my concerns. He referred me for an ultrasound and promptly called me when he received the results. He is very knowledgeable in his field and I left his office worrying a lot less, now that I am under his care. I recommended him to two Doctor friends, if they ever have need for an E.N.T. specialist. I have a follow up appointment with him in two months and feel lucky to have him as my Doctor. My 86 year old mother was treated surgically by Dr. Vanderwerf to close a scalp excision from a MOHS surgery the day prior. I can say that he and his staff, as well as the surgical center where the procedure was performed, was exceptional. He coordinated with the other doctors to make the whole process very seamless and most important, took extreme care and time to alleviate the worries that mother had. His expertise resulted in the procedure being done in a less invasive way than others had offered with the results being superior and quicker than I ever would have expected. Dr. Vanderwerf is amazing. However, "Doctor" Moeller, who works for him, is far less than par (that's my nice way of saying she's a self-righteous know-nothing). She tried to tell me that my ear infection was nothing more than TMJ. First of all, TMJ is an acronym for Temporal Mandibular Joint. What she probably MEANT was TMJD (Which is the CORRECT acronym for the ACTUAL ailment). Newsflash to her ignorant diagnosis: TMJD does NOT cause itching, redness, pain, and inflammation in the ear canal. I'm not an ENT, but even I KNOW that to be true. I was trained as a holistic health practitioner (I actual went to college and received training and certification) and I KNOW what TMJD is. When I disputed her diagnosis she said, "I'm not going to have this conversation with you!", tossed my paperwork into my lap and left the room. Dr. Vanderwerf: you are an AMAZING physician.
