Visited last weekend with my two cousins to find bridesmaid dresses for her upcoming wedding…read more Our consultant, Emily, helped us pick the perfect dresses. She was kind, patient, and had a sense of humour (very appreciated!). We spent almost two hours in the shop. The atmosphere was relaxing and the setting itself is quite beautiful. There are lots of options to choose from in terms of dress styles at varying price points. Basically you decide on the silhouette, then they order the gown customized to your size which arrives in 10 weeks for a rush order or three months for regular delivery. Lovebird also carries bridal gowns, veils, accessories, and prom dresses too. We had such a good experience that the mother of the bride plans to also pick out her dress from this boutique as well. Would highly recommend if you are in the Kingston area and need a special gown for a special occasion!

I found a great faux fiddle leaf tree and tried it out in the space I was looking to fill in my bedroom. After trying it here and several other locations I decided I wanted to return it. I called several times last week to try and make sure I would be able to return it, as this tree is about 6' tall and is very difficult to transport. I finally left a voicemail on their machine on Sunday. They got back to me on Monday saying I would need the receipt and in 15 days of purchasing. At the time I couldn't find the receipt, but went searching and found it. My boyfriend took the first part of the morning off work to help me transport it, as we both work until 6:00pm (when the store closes). When I brought it in the sale person said we also needed an additional receipt that had some 25 digit code on it. She showed us an example of one at the cash, which was stapled to the credit receipt. My receipt had no staple marks in it, and we inquired as to why mine may have not been stapled as well- also why I was not told about this particular receipt I needed. Mine says "Amanda's House of Elegance" on it and shows the price of the item. I don't think it was fair to turn us away. I must say, I was extremely disappointed in the service. This item was almost $300.00. I am clearly a potential customer that is willing to buy high end items. I would have expected better service and more willingness from the staff to satisfy the customer. Though I prefer to shop locally, I will not be returning to this store. I can't see how this business could ever compete with stores like Homesense (which has a 30 day return policy) or Pier 1 (which has a 45 day return policy) with no hassle and additionally has much more competitive pricing.

However, this isn't one of those stores where you leave with a huge haul every single time (like Value Village or Talize). They have a smaller selection and prices are a bit higher, so I tend to be picker when selecting items to buy here. The store is fairly well laid out, and I appreciate that the clothing is color coded (Talize does this as well, but Value Village does not). I also like that the price of the item decreases the longer it's on the sales floor, which is unique. I often think of consigning here, but to be honest after reading the rules on the website, it seems like it would be a bit of a hassle. For example, it says that they don't accept items over 2 years old. How on earth can they tell (besides the item being in poor condition)? One time when I inquired about consigning, they told me about all the "cheaper" brands that they don't accept...yet every time I go in, I see those brands! It's also strange that on the website it says that Danier is one of their best selling brands, yet they say they don't accept leather coats (yes I understand Danier doesn't JUST have leather jackets, but you get where I'm coming from). Also, this might just be me, but I wish the change rooms had actual doors and not just curtains. I don't know how many times a lady has just waltzed right into my change room while I'm changing! No etiquette it seems. All in all, a few minor inconveniences, but it's a store I will continue to visit once every couple of months to see what's new.

At that moment, I was thinking I was in the perfect place for lightweight, water-repellent outdoor clothes. Luckily for Kingstonians, just a sturdy 30-minute walk to their Columbia Sportswear store at the King's Crossing Fashion Outlets. It's all here ... the raincoats, the winter coats, the hiking shoes, the polo shirts, the shorts, the other multitudes of outerwear and sportswear, the camping stuff, and the rest. When you go to an outlet store like this, the BIGGEST deals are on the off-season stuff ... so here in June, you're getting the requisite 30-60% off, and the clearance on top of that. Yes, there are always deals here, but they are off the highest retail price you'd never pay. Still, the quality is high and the options are in abundance. IMHO, the best clothing options at the King's Crossing Outlets are doing here at Columbia. Get to Columbia, Kingstonians ... then get out on the water!

Macdonald), and has some of Canada's best fresh-water sailing. Luckily for the town, it has a gift shop like Waterfront to ensure one doesn't forget about this great place. First of all, we were sucked in by happenstance ... or very clever marketing ... as we had to go in the get our tickets for the Thousand Island Discovery Cruise inside the gift shop. That being said: Once you go in, there is an abundance of cool, high-quality stuff. I would hazard a guess that Waterfront has the city's best collection of Kingston-based apparel ... I draw this conclusion because since it has a deeper collection of gift-shop wares than the Kingston Visitor Info Centre (reviewed here: https://www.yelp.com/biz/kingston-visitor-information-centre-kingston). Hoodies, t-shirts, glasses, mugs, hats, boxer shorts, and the rest. You'll also find plenty of nautically themed stuff from shirts to lighthouses to books to model sailboats. To call it a "gift shop" would be an insult as they have so much fancy stuff: Scrubs, soaps, candles, watches, purses, wallets, jewelry, scarves, frou-frou gift baskets, high-end greeting cards (including some that are hand-drawn), and the rest. There are several high-quality brands including the sock puppets and stuffed animals of Cate & Levi; the hemp-heavy and fair-trade fashion of Ark Imports; the beauty and personal care products of Walton Wood Farm; and the vegan, eco-friendly, and cruelty-free skincare products of Kingston's own Shiva's Delight. And, oh, don't worry: PLENTY of maple. And #2: If you're into stuffed moose, I don't think you'll find a better selection in the Great White North :) So stop in ... even if you have to!

It had a bunch of Canada and Kingston merchandise since it's mostly a store for tourists, but they also have really cute/silly underwear! The stuff is definitely a little more expensive than what you'd find at other stores, but again, this is a store for tourists (mostly), so it makes sense that it's a tad more expensive. Not by the hinge, the actual arm itself. I just moved to the PEC area from Toronto and found out about Davids online. Before the move, I must have asked at least 5 optical shops in Toronto if they could help fix my frames. My lenses are quite expensive and were in great shape, relatively new, so I wanted to salvage them. It was one no after the other, most pushing for me to buy new glasses all together. I called Davids the same day I was going into Kingston and the opticians there managed to squeeze me without issue. As soon as I walked in, I knew I was in good hands. They were helping another customer fix the bridge of his glasses. This place is first class in service, and they offer repairs which is becoming more rare these days. This mother daughter optician duo not only fixed the two arms of my glasses , replacing the entire hinge and finding matching arms from a collection of parts they keep onsite to repair glasses, but they took an old frame of mine and within a week made me a new pair of lenses. I have a pretty strong prescription, it usually takes 2-3 weeks at the very least from the time of order. The can do attitude and customer service I received at Davids is truly hard to find in the retail landscape these days. I can totally trust and rely on these opticians with my vision needs. I am over the moon I stumbled on this rare retail gem. Its hard to find this type of service anymore with people who genuinely love their craft and want to help people see better, fairly and with good intention.
