Hurlburt's Plumbing & Heating

Hurlburt's Plumbing & Heating

Al and Jack Hurlburt seem to know everything there is to know about boilers and did an excellent…read morejob replacing our old gas boiler with a high-efficiency Viessman unit. Hurlburt's was recommended by a contractor friend who uses them extensively. We already two bigger, nationwide companies come out to give estimates. Both of them priced out the job more than two thousand dollars higher than Hurlburt's for standard (not high-efficiency) boilers. Each of the guys was there for about an hour, shuffling papers and talking away. They were clearly waiting until we either agreed to an installation or asked them to leave. In contrast, Al Hurlburt stopped by on a Saturday morning, took a look at our old system, gave us a price, and left. Reading the negative review from nearly ten years ago above, I will say that there were a couple of fits and starts in getting the job going. We were working during the busy winter season and a cold snap to boot. They were supposed to start one day but made a little progress. But they came back a couple of days later and got it done promptly (important) and right (more important). When they finished, Al was leaving and I asked whether he would send a bill and almost as an afterthought he said, "sure, or you could just give me a check," which I did. I didn't get a receipt. I'm sure I could get one if I needed it. I would recommend the quality of their work without reservation.

Same for the water heater. They did the job with old-school black pipe instead of the crap most plumbers use now. The cost was fully 1/3 the price of the most expensive bids. It was a beautiful job that -- now 10 years later -- still works perfectly with zero maintenance. We're delighted with their work and recommend Hurlburt without reservation.

This company was fantastic back when the owner actually came out to do the work…read more.. I had a new kitchen counter & sink installed, and the contractor said they never install the sink (mine is a regular, simple drop-in) because plumber's prefer to have the room to work. Paul the Plumber sent a young kid out, who announced that they don't install sinks. Well, after calls to their office they agreed to drop in the sink, and charged me MORE than the cost of the $300 sink for less than 1/2 work. I also wasn't expecting them to say that they will only replace all of the piping so they can guarantee it, so the whole bill came to around $1000. Next thing I know, there's water all over the place. So they send the same kid out and it turns out that he didn't cap the drain for the dishwasher (which hadn't been installed yet) so he rigged up something. In the meanwhile, the same kid fixed the hot/cold water valve on my downstairs shower, and somehow ended up breaking the entire shower head off the wall, and cutting a huge hole in the wall. He also snaked the upstairs tub. Guess what? More water under the kitchen sink. So I checked to see if the plumbing license on the website is still valid (which it is), but it certainly isn't for this kid. So I called and told them about the water under the sink & asked for the kid's license #. She said she'd get back to me with the #, but instead sent out another guy who DID have a license. Turns out the unlicensed kid capped the drain incorrectly and he didn't screw down the sink drain correctly either, which is why water was leaking everywhere. And as for the tub? The kid managed to screw that up too so the drain stopper didn't work any more and I had to pay another plumber to fix it. The upshot? This is the place for you if you want some unlicensed, unsupervised kid doing your work.
