I was in the market for term life insurance and getting quotes for auto insurance to compare to my current rates. I was really disappointed by how I was served. I asked for specific death benefits for my term life insurance quotes and was given quotes that didn't have the same death benefit that I requested. In regard to auto coverage, they asked for a few basic pieces of information about my car, how much I drive, etc. but didn't ask me specific questions that were needed in order to meet my needs in terms of the coverage I was looking for. For example, I drive a very old car and it's obvious that I don't need collision coverage, but all 5 auto quotes included collision coverage in the quote. Not to mention their auto quotes were above many other places I've seen. I received these quotes via email. I never went in person to their physical location. Worst of all, I was put in a group email with over a dozen other folks looking for insurance quotes. The lady who worked there asked us all in the group email who was still interested in insurance quotes and who wasn't interested anymore so she could update her email list. Again, a GROUP email from an insurance company!?! I was really excited about this company at first because they are Dave Ramsey endorsed, but I will never do business with them.

I was recommended Stevens Investment Group by the ELP program. I gave them a call and let them know that I did not have much money to invest to begin with, (less than $3,000), that was in another account. I talked to Mark Howie. We agreed to a face to face meeting date. I was told up front that our first meeting I would not be purchasing a product until we have talked and went over several options and that I understood what I was buying. Right away I liked this and went hand in hand with Dave Ramsey's "heart of a teacher" discussion. I already knew that I wanted to open a Roth IRA. Mark went over many different mutual funds with me. He seemed genuinely interested in my financial goals and I never once felt pushed or pressured to buy or commit to anything. At the end of our meeting Mark gave me Dave Ramsey's book "Financial Peace" which was a very nice gesture but as I had already read the book I did not take it. This first meeting was in September 2015. Since then I have had nothing but excellent communication from Mark and everyone else at Stevens that I have encountered. They also offer tax and insurance services. I have not used those so can't speak on the quality. But on the retirement investing side of things, I have had a great experience.

Fidelity…read moreInvestments sent the inheritance claim paperwork to some random person in a different state although they had our correct information when my mother--law died way back in 2008. We never knew there were 2 accounts. Fidelity never contacted us at anytime. When we spoke to the Executor of my mother-in-laws last month, we learned that Fidelity Investments had paid the other siblings back in 2008. Ever since then, we've been trying without success to resolve this problem with Fidelity. First they said they couldn't find any accounts. Then they sent the inheritance paperwork to some unknown person in another state. Then they said the account was empty. Then they said they wouldn't tell us if this stranger was paid. Then they said they would no longer discuss the matter. We've had to hire an attorney.

We compared this to our first established. We left the first place very interested and impressed. I left Schwab somewhere between offended and angry. The office was very small and only a few employees. We met with a nice-looking young man. He claimed Schwab was known for lower rates. He handed us an information handout and we made several notes on it. Then he informed us that is just for glancing at ..for in office use.. we cant take it. Wtf. The fees were actually higher than the other place and offering less incentive pay. He spoke over our head and couldnt read the room but he was young and probably inexperienced. The other place printed us out 2 folders of info ..offered more incentive money and didnt speak over our heads . I left Schwab feeling their policy to not provide allocation history was shady. they didn't give us anything. Did get a bottle of water out of it. My husband started making notes on another piece of paper but I said we are done. The ira is mine and the cash is ours. Either way, didn't leave wanting to deal with this company again.
