The member who helped me also said to call the marina by radio any time when they're closed and any of the members will be glad to come out and open up the fuel pump. Great place just north of the Walkway on the Hudson for any boaters who are ever in need of gas - and reasonable gas prices.

We stayed at the Lander's River Skinners Falls Campground. Unless you want to hear loud music and…read moregenerators going all night long, avoid this campground like the plague. The people who come here are really stretching the concept of "camping". They bring giant speakers and even TVs and power them with loud gas generators. The campground supposedly has quiet hours after 11pm but they do nothing to enforce them and when you bring up the lack of enforcement they just kind of shrug. One night we stayed people played loud music all through the night until 5am. If you value enjoying nature with a good night's sleep stay far far away from here.

It's nice and clean and looks like it was recently built. It sits at the base of the elevator up to the Walkway over the Hudson, but it is also a nice place to just chill and relax, watching the river go by. My only quibble with the park is that it could use some wider paths to accommodate cyclists, and it could use some sort of signage to point people towards the Roosevelt Bridge. We had to consult our own maps to figure it out. It's not a destination park, but it's really a nice place to stop at if you're in the area.

The park facilities are clean and they offer a trolley service during specific parts of the day (there's a lot of great on-site, signage and information about this and other services). When I visited they had a few little food trucks: I really enjoyed the frozen peach frozen from the Lemon Love truck - the perfect combination of sweet and tart flavor! There's also a lot of of history on the walkway - statues, markers, and small interactive signs create a cool opportunity to learn about the area. For parking on the Ulster County side be prepared to park in spots on the side of the road that are metered or in the general lot. The bridge takes 30 to 40 minutes to walk making it a great morning or afternoon activity!

Disappointed by the Tram Service at Walkway Over the Hudson…read more I visited the Walkway Over the Hudson on a very hot day in August. I have a heart condition, so after arriving, I realized that it was simply too hot for me to safely walk across the walkway. At the entrance, I saw a sign indicating that a tram was available until 3:30 p.m. I was very grateful to see this service and understood it to be an option that would make the walkway accessible to people who may have difficulty walking the entire distance. When the tram arrived, I got on and explained to the volunteers that I was very thankful they offered this service. Unfortunately, about halfway across the walkway, the tram stopped and we were asked whether we wanted to get off there or continue to the end. I explained that I needed to return to the side where I had parked my car. I was very surprised when I was told that the tram would not take me back and that I would have to walk in the extreme heat. I became overheated while trying to make my way back. Given my heart condition, this was a frightening and potentially dangerous situation. I understand that there may be rules and limitations regarding the tram, but those limitations should be made very clear before passengers board. If the tram is not available to return passengers to their starting point, visitors--especially those with mobility or health concerns--should know that before getting on. Unfortunately, because of this experience, I would not recommend the Walkway Over the Hudson to anyone who may have difficulty walking long distances, particularly on a hot day. I hope the organization will reconsider how this service is communicated and operated so that others don't find themselves in the same situation

There aren't many places on the Hudson River where you can trust that your children will easily be…read morewithin reach, in a shallow environment, AND have a lifegaurd nearby. Enter: The River Pool. Designed for probably no more than 18-20 people, at first glance it looks like a big hot tub or trampoline in the River. In some ways it's a bit of both. You'll find it by meandering your way past the parking lot, beyond the sand volleyball courts, and past the basketball court to the aluminum ramp at the north edge of the park overlooking the bridge. Thankfully, the aluminum ramp means you don't need to climb sharp rocks or weed through lillypads to get into the water, instead you just walk right into the little rainbow colored plastic pool ring and land on a nylon netting that prevents you from walking on river mud. On a hot August day, it's a refreshing way to cool off and enjoy the park. You'd think that would make it busy, but in the prime afternoon heat on a Saturday, there were only 6 people in the pool, with a couple parents on the sidelines. Just in case you need a bit of privacy before getting in the pool, there are porta potties and even a curtained changing area. So many conveniences, and all without park fees. A gem for families in Beacon and for visitors who want to expand their stay beyond Dia and Main St. Bonus tip: go on Sunday and make a picnic from vendors at the local farmer's market on the river dock.

No pool lounge chairs or towel service so bring your own chairs, picnic blankets, food/snacks and other accoutrements to enjoy a leisurely summer day. Facilities are clean and well-maintained. Very kids/toddler-friendly. The sizeable shallow end has several sprinklers/splash fountains for children to play in, and there are slides on both the kiddie and adult sides. Also a playground in the back (not affiliated with the pool). There are always many life guards on duty every time I've gone. The pool is accessible only to Clarkstown residents and their guests, so if you're not a resident befriend someone who is. You must obtain a Clarkstown resident ID card first at the registration office at 31 Zukor Road in New City. (The pool won't simply accept a driver's license.) Rates can be either daily or seasonal for individuals or family, and are very reasonable compared to similar community pools.

It's no exaggeration that these monsters from the deep probably kept a legion of child psychiatrists in full time employment. On a recent visit it was nice to see that the previous snake-ridden den of iniquity has long been been replaced with a legitimate pool and that the mythological beasts of years past have been slayed by chlorine and actual cement walls. You can even see right to the bottom. What a concept. This is what Nanuet Lake should have been like all along... no thanks whatsoever to my parents who thought this was some tough love version of Shangri La, albeit minus the all consuming bliss one often finds in paradise. I kid about my parents (almost) and am happy to bestow five easy stars for a childhood reclaimed. I still hate snakes.
