Yelp Review My…read morefriends and I visited Sharpe Vineyards yesterday, while visiting Pomfret. The owner at first appeared very friendly and accommodating, unfortunately the visit shortly became chaotic. The owner became over talkative and extremely rude. One of my friends understandably became upset about the owner's manic behavior and decided not to participate in the tasting. The owner then became belligerent and started talking about my friend in the third person as if she was not even in the room. She said to us her three friends "oh never mind about her being upset, that's just the way some people are", or words to that effect. Then the owner stated "I haven't done anything wrong. " I attempted to diffuse this situation without success. The owner just became more manic and unpleasant. During this whole situation my friend, who was very distressed by the owner's behavior, remained calm and quiet. We ended the tasting as quickly as we could, bought our wine and left. Sharpe Hill Vineyard does have very good wines, l however will never visit their tasting room again for fear another offensive interaction with the owner.

The only vineyard in the area worth visiting!…read more The couple who owns this place are so nice and do a great tasting, explaining the history behind each bottle and their farm. The wines were all good- we bought a couple bottles plus slushees after the tasting and stayed a while. I am not usually a fan of the slushees but theirs are legitimately good! They don't have a big indoor area, plenty of space outside but inside is minimal- would like to see them expand it. Honestly would come back in a heart beat if in the area, it's just very far from us and the other wineries out that was are atrocious so not sure when we would be back.

There is seating upstairs on the top of a long and winding staircase. I personally enjoyed the Hillyland (the off-dry white) and it's very rare I can actually finish a glass of wine, I able to finish this one. The outdoors has a area of picnic tables and umbrellas - parking is a little small, it must get interesting in the summer.

Beyond just casual visits, we've even rented Cassidy Hill for our wedding rehearsal, and it was absolutely perfect--intimate, welcoming, and just the right setting to celebrate with friends and family. Between the cozy setting, friendly staff, and fantastic wines, this place has quickly become one of our favorites.

We were missing the wine slushies that they usually offer during the hotter months of the year. Coming here during October the weather was beautiful to celebrate my Mom's birthday. We did a wine flight so we could try a little bit of everything, and the Pinot was one of my favorites. We also ordered the kale salad, the cheese charcuterie board, and the gnocchi. The gnocchi was so good that we didn't leave a single bite. Actually, by the end of the meal, the only thing left on the table was a handful of cranberries from the salad. One of my favorite parts was grabbing our wine and walking over to the production area to watch the sunset with all of the huge wine tanks in the background. It made for a really unique setting. There's plenty of parking, a cute little gift shop where we even picked up some dog treats to take home, and the whole place just has a laid back vibe. I'd absolutely come back the next time I'm in Newport.

I was in the area for the Mushroom Festival at Borders Farm…read moreand decided to see if there were any interesting wineries or breweries around (on Yelp, of course), which brought me here. I tried their flight, which offers samples of any six wines on their regular wine list. I chose one white that looked intriguing called Halo. It was one of my favorites of the selection, with nice tropical flavors. Of the reds, I most enjoyed their Twilight, a blackberry wine, and I purchased a couple bottles of this one to bring home. The staff was super nice and even helped me carry my cheese and crackers and flight out to the patio. Service was very quick as I came toward the end of the day. Atmosphere is nice and chill with outside seating (with heaters), some indoor seating and stand up service at the bar. Really look forward to returning here to sample their dessert wines. One enthusiastic customer even shared with me recommendations as I was checking out. Flights are a little higher priced compared to other wineries I have visited recently. Wine flight was $15 and dessert flight was a few dollars more. I LOVE that this winery is 21+ only and also does not allow dogs, which made for such a chill and relaxing experience. It was legitimately tranquil and so nice!
