I found the exact same items on the sale racks at very different prices. Luckily, I found a few high quality items for $10 a piece. Score! When the cashier began ringing up my finds, the sale prices were not showing up properly. A very nice and patient cashier got her manager to do some overrides so I did get the advertised sticker price. If you search the sale racks, Academy is worth it, but I do find their regularly priced items to be higher than other places and sites.

They always have some good clearance racks in stock and they always give military discounts which is helpful. Mu first bike came from Sun & Ski, a mountain bike, they offer free labor when you buy your bike there, I believe they still do, it's worth asking about it. The service area is so helpful when I need help with the aging bike. A few times I've brought parts in for some simple help and they didn't even charge me for it. They even helped me find a place online to find parts that they don't carry. They do cycle their stock based on the seasons, ski items do show up in this store, but it's limited and distinct to the winter time. It's a good store and has some good staff.

I brought my bike in for a bike fit and brake repair. The staff were friendly during that visit. On…read moremy very first ride afterward, I crashed because the handlebars hadn't been tightened properly -- one handlebar snapped and my saddle bent. I sustained a serious knee injury along with cuts and bruises, and months later, I'm still dealing with knee issues from that crash. When I called to report the crash, the response was "oh shit." To their credit, they promptly repaired the handlebars and attempted to fix the saddle, though it remained slightly uneven. They told me to reach back out if the saddle became a problem. A couple months later, the saddle issue did start affecting my longer rides, so I called as instructed. I wasn't looking for a free replacement -- just guidance on getting a new saddle, or possibly a discount given the circumstances. Instead, I was met with skepticism about whether the original service even happened, then told flatly that they "weren't going to pay for my saddle" -- something I never asked for. The manager was dismissive, unprofessional, and flat out rude throughout the call. I never pursued any formal action over the crash, despite a real injury, and gave the shop room to make things right. That wasn't reciprocated. Given the severity of what happened and how it was ultimately handled, I can't recommend this shop and won't be returning.
