This is the US Masters Team in Korea

I landed at Quest more than 10 years ago. I took my daughter there, transferring from another studio and I was already a red belt. I did not think of resuming taekwondo, but the masters convinced me to follow through. I never expected what came after that. I did not only become a black belt, but also, I've been practicing since then at Quest, where also I tested for my fourth dan. In addition, Master Vargas walked me into competition. Now, I am a US National Team Member, and have proudly represented the United States at an International Level. Children and Adults are welcome, and Master Dean and Master Bobby train Children and adults not only for tournaments, but for life. There is a sense of family environment among parents and children difficult to miss.

Outstanding instructors. My son is all over the place and Ms. Camille is incredibly patient, a strong leader and thorough in her teachings. The front desk, Ms. Susan is inviting, encouraging, accommodating and professional. There is also Master Bobby who brings positive male leadership to the mats. He's very patient and warm with the younger kids but still doesn't allow too much horseplay or whining. This place is fantastic for my 5 year old. His mobility, memory and confidence are soaring. Thank you!

Quest Taekwondo lessons at home via Zoom

We relocated to California in August 2019 and our first order of business on day one was to find a new Taekwondo school. We checked out Quest as it was near my work and Master Kamille invited us to join for an intro class that night. Our first class with Masters Vargas and Bobby were great. All the students were welcoming and I learned I could join the current class of Black Belt candidates and stay on track to get my first Black Belt. My kids have been welcomed and help with classes continuing their Black Belt leadership experiences. As businesses closed due to coronavirus, Quest was streaming virtual content to students right away using zoom and YouTube, allowing us to remain connected and continue our lessons. Great school! I highly recommend them!

The competitive nature of that program and discipline didn't build her confidence much. Here, the practice is focused on the individual but also as a part of the collective team. No real sparring yet in the Little Samurai class, only some practice punches and kicks with chest protectors. Lots of punching bag practice for strength building and training. Lots of calisthenics as well with lunges, jumping jacks, mountain climbers, frog jumps, burpees, etc. Skills that they can use their whole lives and get stronger with. At the same time, there will be fun games like tag, dodgeball, red light green light to keep their interest and to work on reflexes. Excellent training in focus and active listening as well with focus claps, raising hands to speak, caring for others and awareness of everyone's space. These things I have not encountered in any other studio/dojo. I've seen many places that allow disruptive students or even parents. In contrast, here at 1st class, they don't teach blind discipline towards any instructor/owner but respect for one's self and each other. This alone is what keeps us coming back. This is what schools don't teach enough of. Not to mention the actual martial arts she is learning here. Channeling their chi into a strong Aiya, learning how to punch and kick correctly in self defense. Amazing program for little ones. Instructors are all black belts who are not only cordial, but also gentle yet firm. We fit in very well here and would highly recommend this program for little ones.

We now live here in CA, again, just so our children can attend this school. Master Salim and his wife Sabrina and their two sons are dedicated to the school and the children that attend it to a level that I've never seen or experienced previously in this kind of business. I have never before experienced someone so dedicated and so committed to the success and betterment of the kids than Master Salim. The amount of time he spends is literally mind boggling. Is it hard and challenging for the kids? Absolutely. If your goal with your child is to have them get a bit of exercise and earn a belt or two and have someone pat them on the back for mediocrity, then this isn't the school for you. If your goal is to realize the full potential of your child and have them win National Championships, compete on the world stage, and literally be among the top taekwondo athletes in the world, then this is absolutely the school you need to attend. Perhaps it's not for everyone, but it's literally the top level of training that you can get and anyone who knows anything about taekwondo knows this.

So we're back, almost 3 years later. H has mastered the basic foundation skills: poomse, punches, & kicks; she is ready to transition from her white belt & test for the yellow belt. The other masters are equally impressive... Master Ian has great form & skills when I watch him instruct the kids with higher color belts. He is also patient & sensitive... as I watched him deal with my l'il one's frustration one morning. Within seconds after talking to her, she straighten up & got in line to wait for the class to start. Master Park is a superb master & is great with kids. He alters from the serious TKD master to the kids' best buddy so they feel comfortable in class; this is especially important for the new students as the class (size) can be overwhelming. In addition to teaching martial arts, he also emphasizes respect to the teacher, your parents, & people. And his teaching overflows to H's everyday life outside of class - discipline, respectful, patience. I highly recommend this school for you or your kids!
