This Quest is located in the area of University City/La Jolla. There's a small charge for parking in their garage and the draw station has a couple phlebotomy rooms. Scheduling is a breeze on their system online. My phlebotomist was kind and friendly, and my scheduled appointment time on a Thursday morning went fine, they have a convenient e-check in you can do on your phone upon arrival. My only gripe is that I have pretty bad bruising on my arm, but other than that it is a decent option for doing bloodwork for those who live or work nearby.

I was referred to Nourish by a friend. I browsed their web site and read over the 'Providers and…read moreStaff' bios to try and decide which doctor I wanted to see based on my needs. Honestly, it was a bit of a shot in the dark. Prices of visits vary depending on who you see. I called to make an appointment, and was disappointed to find out it was about 3 months before I could get in. I was called and offered an earlier appointment when someone else cancelled, but I couldn't make it, so I stuck with my original appointment time. The front desk staff were always pleasant when I interacted with them. You have the option to visit in person or through an on-line virtual video visit. For my first visit, I decided to go in-person as I wanted to make a connection with the doctor and for her to really "see me". The office is very clean, modern and upscale, although not 'cold and clinical'. The decor colors are welcoming and serene. There is a waiting room and then you're called back to your doctor's office and you walk through a common area with a large table. There's a small restroom and a phlebotomist's room. I left after my first visit (which was about an hour) with my head spinning slightly as I felt like I had some 'homework' to do before my next visit. This included downloading an app, through which to order supplements and ordering said supplements. Organizing getting bloodwork (which, after some research turned out to be less expensive through a 3rd party lab, not through the Nourish phlebotomist), ordering a prescription through a compound pharmacy and purchasing and utilizing a continual glucose monitor through another retail outlet. While wearing the monitor, I had to enter any food consumed and any exercise activity into the glucose monitor app. Communication with your Nourish doctor is done through a 'patient portal'. Any messages I sent were usually answered within a couple of days. I also called the front desk a few times with questions. For my second visit, I chose the convenience of meeting virtually on-line to save the commute time. This visit was about 40 minutes, done through the portal. The doctor I chose was professional, knowledgeable and pleasant, but not particularly warm and bubbly. She didn't smile much. Not a lot of pleasantries like , 'How was your summer?' or 'How was the drive here?' or whatever, just strictly down to business. That's OK, but I like a little bit more of a friendlier/interactive bedside manner. Between two visits, some bloodwork (outside my provider network), several supplements, a compound pharmacy prescription and mail delivery, plus purchasing a glucose monitor, (also out of my provider network), I spent just over $1,100. After my second visit, it kind of occurred to me that the operation relies a little heavily on the recommendation of supplements which you order through a portal they suggest -- obviously they make a commission. (I was told by the front desk to 'Not order through Amazon'!) I didn't feel like the first set of supplements had done much, so I decided not to order the second set that was suggested. I felt I was given very minimal nutritional advice. I'm glad I gave Nourish and naturopathy a try and I was pleased that I was tested/monitored for things that my regular medical provider wouldn't bother testing for, however, ultimately I didn't feel like it solved much for me. There is free on-site parking.

I had an appointment at the Shiley Eye Institue. It was July of 2025 and there was a lot of construction going on at the campus which made it even more difficult to navigate. I found a parking structure and parked, only to find out that there is no validation and it was $7 for three hours. I was put off a bit. Health care is damned expensive, now you're going to gouge me for an additional seven bucks? C'mon! On top of that, I was constantly checking the time, hoping that three hours was enough. (It was, I was back in my car with 17 minutes to spare). I wandered around a bit before I finally found where I was going. The sprawling campus has some signage, but a "You are here" directory like malls have would be really helpful. After my appointment at Shiley, I had to go to the lab. Even after getting directions, it took me a few minutes of wandering around before I found it.

I just had a procedure that took place on Monday that was needed to replace a specialized battery which over many years from the wear and tear it had run down. From the condition I have I go through epileptic seizures which had been a great medical and disabling condition with the VNS Implant that I was given and had Implanted. When you have surgery, you can go at so many hours from the late in the afternoon to the early hours and the early morning hours from the early 500am. For many of you never had to get up at 5:00am for many of you that is the earliest only construction people that get up at the time to get ready for work. With many surgeries you can't have blood thinners or have vitamins before you have surgery one thing that I take daily was aspirin to help prevent heart attacks. On the early morning hours, I had a ride pick me up at my house yes, the mornings can be cold for some and for others it's one of the best wake ups in the morning to have a surgical process the results go different ways. When I had arrived at the Hospital it was about 5:00am in the morning there was a few people that were waiting at the desk having to check in at the desk when you come to the UCSD Medical Center in La Jolla I was greeted by the surgical staff was checked in at the desk and had to check with the main desk. The main lobby of the UCSD Hospital is one that is of the best in design and the hospital can be one that has designer furniture and the large windows that give you the wide looks of the main campus and the many surgical centers that are close by. it long When I was taken to the second floor where I was directed where the surgical center and the many people that were waiting for the appointment times. When you come to the surgical center you don't have to wat long they take right in where they can get you ready. UCSD Medical Surgical center is one of the largest when you come to the second the staff they ask if you if have eaten anything that is nothing after 1200am and nothing to drink. The type of surgery you have are greeted by the doctors and the surgery nurses they take your vitals and get you ready to have the IV procedure readied for surgery. To the great staff at the surgical floor that has helped me get through the long surgical process when they take you to surgery you may be given a prep injection the surgical centers, they have been some of the best with many of them can be very cold. The treatment that I had received was the best from the surgical nurses they stayed with me through the prep process and when they brought me back to the recovery room. For many people that have had surgery there is so much you go through and the support that you get from the caring staff I want to say thank you for your support and your life saving help which helped me get through one of the most important surgeries. As a Yelp Elite Reviewer this has been one of the greatest experiences and the many nurses and surgical staff which came and saw me there was one thing, I saw so much care and support for when you have people that monitored your sleep asked to have you started walking. The main thing that I can say is that the UCSD is one center as part of the Hospital is one of the best surgical departments very welcoming.

I also needed a lab that the county and the hospital would approve. I called quite a few phlebotomists and mobile labs but was having no luck getting someone to meet my requirements. Jill also had the blood and urine draws transported directly to the transplant center's lab saving us the need to hire another currier service. I can't even put into words how caring and accommodating she was. Jill and her team (thank you too Windy) were willing to work around any schedule that the county and the hospital required. It was clear that certain staff members in critical positions are not trained -- or not willing -- to de-escalate, listen, or handle difficult situations with basic empathy. What I experienced felt more like ego and defensiveness than patient care. My provider has been supportive, but the front-end leadership turned an already stressful medical situation into something unnecessarily painful. No patient who is already struggling should walk out feeling worse because of the staff's attitude. UCSD is a respected institution -- but this experience shows that some individuals do not uphold the standard the institution's name carries. Eventually, I had to leave because I couldn't wait indefinitely. When I rescheduled and came back, I was 15 minutes late due to circumstances beyond my control. Despite the fact that they wasted an hour and a half of my time at my previous visit, they refused to see me and said they didn't have staff to accommodate me. Their "solution"? Validating my parking. As if that makes up for the fact that I still don't have a primary care physician and now have to wait months for another appointment. This place clearly does not value its patients' time or care about actually providing medical services. They expect you to wait indefinitely for them, but if you're just a few minutes late, they turn you away with zero regard for your health. Absolutely ridiculous.
