On Monday, November 24th, I went to WellNow for an ear irrigation (a warm water + peroxide flush)…read morebecause my right ear had started to ache -- usually a sign that wax has built up again. I've been through this many times before because my ear canals are tiny and narrow, and WellNow has always handled it just fine. This visit was the exception. The assistant who worked with me was wonderful. She was friendly, careful, and mindful of my weirdly small ear canals. She even managed to remove some wax without causing discomfort. Then Dr. Marc came in. I explained that my right ear was still throbbing and I didn't feel any relief yet. He attempted to irrigate it again, and I honestly have no idea what technique he was using -- but it felt rushed, sloppy, and almost like he was going in blind. His irrigation made me start coughing uncontrollably, and when he finished, I realized my ear was bleeding. Not a tiny spot -- actually bleeding. When I expressed concern, he brushed it off as "something that can happen" during irrigation. Well, Dr. Marc, I can confidently say this has never happened in all the times I've had this procedure done. I left WellNow in more pain than I arrived with, frustrated, shaken, and frankly irritated at the condescending explanation that followed. It felt like being mansplained to by someone who didn't know what he was doing and lacked any semblance of bedside manner. Update - Saturday, Nov. 28: I ended up going to the ER because the pain kept getting worse. The PA who examined my ear immediately noticed that my ear canal is inflamed, which pretty much confirms that something wasn't right with how that irrigation was done.

I completely understood the circumstances and that it was not the staff's fault the tech could not come. However, when I declined, NP Casey Renaud became blatantly rude and then questioned why I was being "rude." The interaction felt degrading and unprofessional. As I was leaving, she loudly told the other nurses to make sure they documented that I could not return, which was completely unnecessary and humiliating to hear in front of staff and my baby. No patient should be spoken to or treated that way. I do want to note that the front desk employee could not have been kinder and went out of her way to make sure I was okay afterward, so I truly appreciate her compassion and professionalism. Unfortunately, based on my own experience, I will never return and have filed a complaint with the New York State Office of Professional Medical Conduct regarding the incident.

So I could tell…read moremany stories about the exceptional care and staff but I'll just recount my latest experience having outpatient hernia surgery here on May 9, 2026. It was a breeze, to be honest. I did my presurgery testing there as well. Easy check in at the kiosk and they take you immediately at your appointment time. I personally never had to wait. Three tests, out the door in half an hour. Very similar day of surgery. I arrived 10 minutes early and was getting dressed in a lovely gown within moments. I wasn't particularly nervous about the operation certainly there's always a bit of anxiety. It helps a lot to be prepped for surgery quickly and by the most polite, professional and kind staff you can hope for. It takes about 2 hours to get a patient ready and it goes by fast. It's also understandable that sometimes there might be a delay but it's no one's fault. Emergency room delays are common everywhere and it depends entirely on how many people need care at the same time. Staff aren't responsible for a rush of ailing people and they do their best to triage appropriately and provide the required care. A shot of "happy juice" in my IV and I enjoyed a rather breezy and relaxed ride into the operating room. At which point, dreamland in moments. Next thing you know, you're awake and being offered ice chips and a ginger ale and graham crackers. I was up walking to the restroom in no time and out the door soon thereafter. Without recounting each time myself or family has been there, I can tell you that every nurse is incredible and every doctor takes the time to listen and address concerns. (I did meet one physician I didn't care for, to be honest, but taking into account 40 years of going here, I don't think that's worth even a gentle complaint.) I noticed someone mentioned difficulty finding parking. I had that happen only once but it was a short walk from a side street to the front door. I hope I don't need their services too often but if I do, I know I'll be taken care of properly and with professionalism and a caring staff who understands any hospital visit can be stressful and they do all they can to make it easy for you.

On that particular day, they didn't have anyone in to do it. So I called back on Monday and I was fine to come in. Everyone on the phones were friendly, check in was quick and easy, and I barely had to wait. It was nice and clean in there as well. No complaints here.

I have been trying to get a prescription for blood pressure meds refilled for almost two weeks so my mother in law doesn't stroke out. Pharmacy was nice enough to fill a 5 pill emergency prescription since she's been getting the same meds for 10 years, but this is totally incompetence on the part of Grand Island Family Practice. If you call them during business hours, you get the answering service 99% of the time. Calls are not returned or taken care of. To make an appointment, I had to walk in to the practice and get the receptionist to put down her cell phone to do it. The Drs/Nurses/PAs are competent, but you will get a different one every time because turnover is high. I have no idea who my current doctor is. Last year I could not get a doctor on the line during business hours, and my mother in law ended up in the ER and almost died because I could not get a prescription refilled in time. I thought it was a one-off thing, but apparently this has been going on for a couple years now, judging by the comments on the googlemaps listing for this location.

Thanks to my son Matthew, Lauren, and Liz for being my pillars of strength! I'm also deeply indebted to The McAuley Residence, where I received exceptional care from Chris Bishop Fineberg, Maudine Hackett, Dave Brzykcy my p/therapist, Lisa, all the nurses, and CNA's! The entire team at McAuley was truly inspiring, and I've never witnessed such compassion and dedication to healing! When Dave asked if I was getting emotional, I confessed that I was overcome with gratitude! Leaving was bittersweet, but I knew I had to take the next step towards recovery! Once I'm fully healed, I plan to return to McAuley and pay it forward, spreading hope and inspiration to others! Well, they called there and they had a 6 hour wait. So we went to Degraff. Degraff was nice and small and not overwhelmed with people. It was nice to experience this. You'll tell security why you're there, fill out a little yellow form, and put it in a tray outside of the triage nurse window. While you're waiting, there is a TV on. Surprisingly, it was playing Psycho (the old Alfred Hitchcock movie). I'm not complaining at all, just was not expecting that! There is a station where you can borrow complimentary chargers, which was great, as I was not expecting this and my phone was low on battery. You'll give the machine your number and a credit or debit card from your phone (I think I used Apple Pay). This is just to assure you'll bring the charger back and will not charge you unless you don't bring it back on time (I believe it gave me 24 hours with it, if needed). It will give you the date and time to return by. Then, you'll just stick in any of the open ports and you'll get a text confirming your return (and a message on the screen where you returned it). The overall visit was very pleasant and went by quickly. We were in and out of the ER in 3 hours flat. This included a CT scan. The staff was incredibly nice and communicated well.
