I prepared myself for a longer wait since I read negative online reviews about the location. 1:06PM - There was no one manning their desk up front. I checked in on the tablet and I was second on standby. It was an estimated time of 30-60 minutes if I wanted to wait. A scheduled patient is taken as I finish checking in. 1:16PM - Aforementioned patient leaves. 1:18PM - They take a patient on standby. 1:18PM - Another patient checks in. 1:19PM - Another patient checks in. 1:23PM - Standby patient leaves. 1:31PM - The newest patient asks how long we've been waiting. I had been waiting 25 minutes and the other patient said they had waited about 15 minutes. In the meantime they called me in. 1:44PM - I finish the blood draw. The first phlebotomist failed to draw any blood from my LEFT arm so she asked for help from another phlebotomist who was successful with my RIGHT arm on the first try - a miracle since I have invisible veins. I appreciate that the first phlebotomist did not try to poke me multiple times which can cause a lot of discomfort and bruising. There was no one manning the front desk/window the entire time I was there but the check-in tablet is quick easy to use. However, if you have any questions then you will need to wait between patients for someone to come out/open the door. The TV is on in the waiting room so it is not a quiet waiting room but the other patients kept to themselves. There were plenty of seats so it didn't feel crowded but there was only a max of 4 patients waiting when I was there mid-afternoon on a Thursday. There is no water in the waiting area so be sure to hydrate before your appointment for faster blood flow. For any tests that require putting bodily fluids into a cup they have a bathroom inside and it looked clean from my vantage point in the chair. Overall I waited 25 minutes to be seen despite being a walk-in. I would come back to this location again.

The online appointment scheduler is convenient, and I didn't wait too long in the waiting area before being called back for my appointment. However, the lab tech processing my information was inefficient, and I sat for nearly an HOUR listening to him and his supervisor argue back and forth over trivial stuff. After that, I was able to see a phlebotomist and get my bloodwork done. The phlebotomist was kind and good at her job, which kind of made up for whatever had happened before? Overall, really sucky experience and I wish there were other options I could recommend people.

My wait times have varied from 0 minutes (I was the first of the day) to a little over an hour (when the waiting room is completely full), it all depends on when you go. I've been going to the same Quest for.. 2 years now about once a month to get my INR checked. And honestly, this place has made me a little spoiled. The woman that runs the lab, Nancy, is probably the nicest woman I've ever met. She greets me every time I walk through the door, loves to chat, and gets my vein EVERY time (my veins are tiny and if I go anywhere else they often miss multiple times.. sorry if that's TMI). She even deals with calling the Dr's if my standing order has expired. :D The other woman who is there when Nancy is out is also wicked nice (I think Joanne is her name). For people that don't know any better, you should treat your phlebotomist the same way you treat your stylist! At least that's what I do. You obviously won't be sitting in the chair as long.. but the feeling is the same. Joke around, chat it up, and give hugs if you're a regular! They will remember you, and trust me.. the whole experience is a LOT better if they like you (even if it's a one-time visit). To the person that reviewed this before, that was right about the same time that the building was going through major remodeling and yeah, things were a little hectic/out of place during that time. But trust me, she didn't like how crazy things were then either (you try not having an access to half your files, a working phone, etc)

I want to clarify that prior to my most recent visit, I've never had a problem at this location…read more The problem I experienced could actually occur at any MRI facility. First, the positives: The MRI and other imaging locations can provide scans in a more timely manner, than if you were to go to the main hospital. Calling the offices directly (Chelsea and Waltham, or NWH), rather than going through the main radiology scheduling line, can often yield better results. You can get the numbers by calling main operator at MGH, & asking for the numbers to Chelsea or Waltham MRI The staff have been pleasant & easy to work with. The lockers are small (don't bring large coats or bags.) The changing rms are easily accessible, restrooms are clean and spacious. I've never experienced a long wait, but waiting rm is large and comfortable. Most of the time they can elevate your head a little upon request, which makes some more comfortable. This most recent visit, tech explained I'd be scanned in the new 3.0 Tesla machine. He told me image quality was superior, and l the machines were a bit more spacious. He told me I might feel a little dizzy upon exiting, because of the higher magnetic fields, but that it was normal. He also said it might be a little more noisy, and gave me ear plugs. The exam took a very long time, in part, because I moved due to discomfort, and because someone messed up re. the contrast dye, so they had to straighten that out while I waited. This was an hour of hell that I'll never repeat! While I appreciated having the tech warn me about the dizziness, that was far from the only concern. Yes, the machines offer a (only slightly) more spacious feel to them - but it's far from an open MRI - it's not worth it! It's EXTREMELY noisy. This is not a good thing for anyone who is even mildly anxious, because it's very difficult to focus away from it, and was dizzying in itself. One thing I wasnt told was how hot you feel while in the machine. I finally pushed the buzzer & asked if it was normal - I felt as if I was being burned. I was sweating & felt overcome by it. He then told me that it was normal, because the cells were all "excited" in my body, due to the higher mag frequency. I continued to try to endure it, although I noticed certain areas including my legs seemed to be much more hot than other areas. Yes, there is dizziness when exiting. Considering they have to roll you out while injecting the contrast - which causes dizziness, then roll you back in for another set of pictures after - lying flat and not moving is very uncomfortable. Between the heat and feeling so "woozy", I was also feeling nauseated. My face was scarlet, and the areas of skin where I'd felt most warm indeed had been burned. I felt very unsteady for the next several hours, was unable to safely drive, and continued to feel nauseaous. I also had a bad headache. I later researched my reaction by googling: "Tesla 3.0"+"burn" or using "Tesla 3.0"+"dizzy" or "effects" as the second term, and found a lot of disturbing information. There has been many reports of similar symptoms, sometimes leading to patients getting burned or having severe episodes of dizziness, hearing problems or headaches, sometimes lasting for a couple of days after. Even worse, I found that there has not been sufficient safety testing done to determine if implants and other devices/conditions, presumed safe for the original 1.5 MRI exposure, have not been proven safe in the new 3.0 machines. Some of them were urging for the testing to be completed prior to patient exposure. I don't understand why this didn't happen, but I will certainly never be subjecting myself to this again. If you need to have an MRI, When making appt, always ask if they have the new 3.0 Tesla machines, and ask if you can request the older 1.5 instead. Double check this during your appt, before they put you into the machine. The pictures generated from the 1.5 are excellent, so there should be no need for these uncomfortable, potentially dangerous machines to be used. If you've had a negative experience involving the new machines, call the MA Bureau of Healthcare Safety at (617) 753-8000. Every report received will help! Update following MGH response: My only complaints concerning MGHC specifically is that it was not disclosed to me that some implants, devices and med conditions deemed safe for the 1.5 havent been proven safe in the 3.0 machines. I also wasnt told before entering that I had a choice, and that the risks of the machine could incl persistent dizziness (not just upon coming out), nausea, headache, and heating could result in burns. This info is out there, and needs to be disclosed before patients go in. I'd advise that you do so in a signed consent form, to help reduce your facility from liability, if you choose to use these machines. I did speak to my dr, and he knew nothing about the new scanners and their effects. I will be following up. Thanks.

The methadone was just my mrdication it was on me to do the rest of the psychological work to gain tools on how to even tie my shoes with out dope. They gave me my counselor, cara, who i cant even possible say enough about besides she is the most competent substance abuse counselor ive ever met. They do not use addicts as any treatment staff which i didnt know how id feel taking advice on how to do the hardest thing in the world (detox of heoin) when they havent been in my shoes. I appreciate the fact that they are incredibly educated and knowledgeable group of people running this program. Its nice to not have counselors that arent rough around the edges like a lot of addicts tend to be due to what we have been through, its almost a survival skill. I just cant say enough, they make sure your always comfortable on your dose and you can go up or down at any time youd like once your on a stable dose. They start you at 40 and the average dose is 100- 110. If your even slightly looking into methadone please try north charles before your at somewhere in boston and your counselor will have so many clients she/he wont ever be there for you as much as they should. 617 661 5700 call and ask for admission to the program. I have been a client at the North Charles Clinic for over a year. The clinic while saving my life by…read moregiving me methadone is sorely lacking in administrative leadership and direction. While they have a policy that everyone is treated the same it is policy in name only. The counselers are mostly children who have no idea on how to run a group and or private meeting.I was present at one group meeting when a client went on a psychotic break in our meeting and the counseler who is supposed to be the first to know was the LAST person to realize and then to compound the problem the nurse let this person BACK into our room, after he had already threatened another client in our group. Then to put a cherry on top, when our meeting was over I go outside and...there HE is.They basically just pushed him out the door..I guess Director Dan felt safer with him outside yet what would have happened if someone said something to this person or someone walking by like a child said or did something, this person was not in his right mind,ANYTHING could of occurred. Why could he not have waited INSIDE until his ride got there?? I felt bad for this person and brought him down off the ledge myself with something called kindness which is NOT in my client description, but it IS in my description as a person..Anytime there is a problem at North Charles, management blames the State because they are a so called non-profit and are always waiting to get permission from the State.Very convenient to have a boogie man, would you not agree?? North Charles's mantra is they treat EVERYBODY the same yet reality is much different..As a client at North Charles I go to Cambridge hospital to get my daily dose of methadone. In other words I see those people EVERY DAY.Yet when it comes to getting doses to take home those people who I see everyday have ZERO input into THAT decision. It is decided by people who I have NEVER MET.Smart right?? Good management, right?? The left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing. So I, who have never ever done any drug since I entered the program get denied take home doses because of a missed meeting or some other administrative infraction that they deem important by people who do NOT know me or what I am about or what I look or feel like.Yet if we are all the same how can I have ONE submission for the right to get a take home dose in the same amount of time another person gets 5 take homes??? I was allowed to see some so called boss called Charlie about my problem.Charlie listened to me intently and asked me a few questions about my problem.Since then..crickets..No yes or no just silence which is par for the course there. It is SO obvious to me how disillusioned the staff is in these so-called upper management drones.Director Dan and this man Charlie seem to care about one thing, cashing their checks. There is no rhyme or reason to their clinic.During snowstorms its ALWAYS a shitstorm because they are awaiting word from the State, while the employees at the hospital just shake their heads and laugh at this nonsense.Computers have been down for the last 2 days, how is that possible in this day and age?? The answer from North Charles will be its NOT our fault we only rent that space..Just like everything else, its NOT their fault.Yet when I make a mistake it ALWAYS is my fault and I am made to suffer the consequences. Here is the kicker..During the snowstorm when they gave me a take home dose I looked on the bottle and it said 54 milligrams..I have NEVER EVER asked for more than 45 milligrams. When I asked my counseler she went to my record and could NOT tell me why.The answer was oh well someone made a mistake.Yes they did.But nothing happens.I get NO answers from management as to why this happened..Maybe they will blame the State,ha ha ha.So I cannot live up to their image of what an addict is supposed to do to get take homes and I do not want to or have to.Instead I am going down on my dose so I can get away from these idiots.I have never seen so much incompetence in my life and it all flows from the TOP.I have seen Director Dan look askance at clients as if HE is too good to deal with them.Well Danny boy look in the mirror because THAT is where the problem is.While I have been in treatment an addict died who was being treated there in a suicide. But there were no meetings about it,no grief counselers for people it may have affected that knew her, nothing.I guess the State would not like it.My counseler made it perfectly clear to me when she said ,Charlie you are NOT a person to them, you are a number!! Truer words were never spoken.North Charles is a good place to start your recovery, very good as long as you shut off your brain and ask NO questions, beacuse the answer is always the same, its the State's fault. With ALL that said I see a post from a woman who lives close to the clinic and in the year plus I have been there no addict has been on a nod or left a needle around or anything like that..THAT IS BULLSHIT..Plain and simple.
