I was taken to Akron City from Barberton, directly to the catheter lab on Saturday night after a…read moreheart attack. The procedure was fast and efficient and used a newer procedure that was much easier on the patient. Dr Rea was very polite and professional. Even though it was after midnight when finished, they even lingered to swap war stories with me. My nurses afterwards were exceptional--Jordan and Cinda. All of the others, from the specialists to the food servers were also very friendly and professional. Although the food was ok, they could give you bigger portions though. My room was modern and clean. So, thanks for saving my life and being polite and professional at the same time. I base my rating after a similar stay at the vaunted George Washington University Hospital in DC over ten years ago. They sucked. Very badly. It's good to be back home. I almost enjoyed myself.

The staff was okay. Most were at least baseline polite. The entire ER experience leaves a LOT to be desired. Despite not being particularly busy, we were never made comfortable. We basically moved from waiting room to waiting room with a couple testing rooms in between. Never a bed. Never a modicum of privacy. Just a bunch of sick people of various degrees sharing a big room, and each others' embarrassing moments. I did not appreciate being privy to someone else's vomit fits from ten feet away--and it happened more than once. My wife, struggling to deal with a painful kidney stone, was never once given the opportunity to lay down or be comfortable. They stuck her in a wheelchair for over five hours, listening to people throwing up and seeing their open wounds ooze, before we were finally discharged. She was not able to rest for even one moment between the pain, pus, and puking. On the way out, it took nearly an hour to discharge. They put us in a cubicle with one chair--there were two of us. I stood up for 45 minutes and not one person offered me a seat. I will change insurances before I ever have to come back here. Shame on Summa. For a "teaching hospital," the only lesson we learned is to avoid at all costs.

Well I waited for about 10 to 15 minutes. Not bad considering, okay so far so good. I pull my pant leg up to show her my skin ulcers because they were leaking pretty bad at the time. Because of my leg being swelled up she doesn't even look at the ulcers and just tells me to go to the ER. And said she couldn't do anything for me here. Okay, so I go over to the Barberton ER. Now I'm not overly crazy about Barberton Hospital or Summa because my wife ended up dying on THEIR watch after falling and hitting her head. Going to the rest room in the middle of the night on THEIR watch! During the CONvid19 scam! Things that make me go hmmm? But I digress, that's another long story. Okay, so I get to the ER & they tell me I need to make an appointment with the Wound Clinic (eyes rolling here). I'm okay with it because I remember what a wonderful job they did with my wife's wound years earlier. Even though I like the Cleveland Clinic much better and trust them more than I do Summa. OK, make no mistake I am happy with the care I am getting from the wound clinic that's not the problem here. The problem here is the bill I got from this Urgent Care place! $497.00 for two GD minuets, are they crazy!? Even though my bill is only 40 bucks I'm not paying it because they are socking it to my insurance company for the rest! What a great racket the medical-industrial complex has going. They can take a flying leap!

Now, I need to file a dispute with my insurance company to investigate the improper billing practices. This situation falls under the federal False Claims Act, and I will be following up with the state as well.

I came on a Sunday afternoon and was told no one from membership was available. I asked if I could get a brochure with basic membership plans and rates and was told no. I took off work during the week and got a high pressure tour from the membership director. I found the fact that they require an initiation fee to be a little odd, that's a very old fashioned model. Still I was impressed with the cleanliness and equipment so I signed up. I wish I hadn't. It was oversold in many ways. It's at best a mediocre run of the mill fitness center, akin to a YMCA or municipal rec center. They do offer towels but that's about it. Completely unimpressed with the fitness assessment I was offered. The person was looking at his phone the whole time. When I called to cancel my membership I was told I had to speak to the membership director. I left her a voicemail but she never got back to me. I went in-person to cancel. The membership director brushed me off and told me to she only dealt with new memberships, I had to go to the front desk to fill out a form. I started to fill out the form, but had some basic questions about the cancelation process which the nice retired people working the desk couldn't answer. I called and left another message for the membership director and have not heard back. They autorenewed my membership without notice. And are making it virtually impossible to cancel. Cleveland Clinic should be ashamed. In this day and age, no one wants an auto renewing subscription that you can't cancel without jumping through hoops.
