I had bad vibes from the start when basic membership rates and info weren't available on their website. I was told I needed to stop in person and speak to a membership representative. I came on a Sunday afternoon and was told no one from membership was available. I asked if I could get a brochure with basic membership plans and rates and was told no. I took off work during the week and got a high pressure tour from the membership director. I found the fact that they require an initiation fee to be a little odd, that's a very old fashioned model. Still I was impressed with the cleanliness and equipment so I signed up. I wish I hadn't. It was oversold in many ways. It's at best a mediocre run of the mill fitness center, akin to a YMCA or municipal rec center. They do offer towels but that's about it. Completely unimpressed with the fitness assessment I was offered. The person was looking at his phone the whole time. When I called to cancel my membership I was told I had to speak to the membership director. I left her a voicemail but she never got back to me. I went in-person to cancel. The membership director brushed me off and told me to she only dealt with new memberships, I had to go to the front desk to fill out a form. I started to fill out the form, but had some basic questions about the cancelation process which the nice retired people working the desk couldn't answer. I called and left another message for the membership director and have not heard back. They autorenewed my membership without notice. And are making it virtually impossible to cancel. Cleveland Clinic should be ashamed. In this day and age, no one wants an auto renewing subscription that you can't cancel without jumping through hoops.​​ read more

I have been a member here for three years. Their personal training services are top notch (be sure to request Antonio, he is very knowledgeable, experienced, and helpful). I find that any exercise equipment I want to use is available any time of day, and there is a really good variety. It's rare that I have to wait to use a treadmill or stair stepper. There is also a pool, steam room, jacuzzi and indoor track. Members get free childcare, and it is offered at convenient hours. This was really helpful when I first started attending. And when you're a member you can just drop in for classes, no reservation or tickets needed. I like that. The staff are welcoming and can help you with equipment if needed. There are a lot of great services available here for fitness and I am really grateful everything is so convenient, like parking, free fresh towels, and operating hours. read more

I'm very skeptical of most workout places. I've belonged to a few in the past that turned out to be garbage. Pool's not working Jacuzzi is not working towels are disgusting mold in the steam room etc. I have not come across any of that with Akron General lifestyles. This place is spotless. It's never overcrowded. I actually truly enjoy coming here working out and using the facility. They have a great pool never overcrowded Jacuzzi tub sauna steam room etc. read more

I've been an active Lifestyles member for a few years now and I really enjoy this place. As far as gyms go, this is about as good as it gets. Among the positives: -Lots of treadmills, ellipticals, stair machines. -Very friendly staff/trainers who know you by name. -Indoor track. -Large pool. -Child care. -Group Exercise -Full size basketball court. My biggest grip would be the free weight area is a little congested. It can get a little tricky to work with barbells without banging into the benches. read more

The trainers and staff are very nice and helpful. The facility however leaves a lot to be desired! They are extremely cheap and are consistently doing things that inconvenience the members while maximizing revenue for Lifestyles. A net that ripped on the main basketball hoop so they moved it to a side hoop where someone could still get their finger caught. They have antiquated weight training equipment that when it breaks they don't replace it. There is only 1 lat cable machine in the whole gym. Great people...TERRIBLE Organization! read more

In full disclosure, I am reviewing this after being a member for 3 weeks. As a college student home for the holidays, I was worried about my marathon training in the midst of Ohio winters. In these crazy weeks of blizzards, black ice, and unusually cold weather, Lifestyles remained a top-notch facility where staff seemed happy to be doing their job! For $75, students can get a one month membership. My mom and brother (he is considered a dependent) are also on annual memberships and it comes out to something like $5/day, which is a STEAL given the quality of this gym. Let's review some Lifestyles-specific highlights: 1) The space, built into the Akron General hospital building, is as clean as gyms can get. The locker rooms are especially pristine, with carpeting, ample bench and countertop space, and added perks like a hair dryer/curling iron mirror station in the women's, towel service, and a couch-and-tv waiting area in each locker room for straggling workout partners. It's amazing how a carpeted locker room can make a gym seem like a destination of sorts :) Showers and toilets are separated from the changing and locker areas by a heavy door, which encourages cleanliness and helps with the awkwardness of stripping about. 2) The "crowds," even during this holiday and resolutions season, are so manageable. The machines are clearly labeled with "limit use to 30 minutes during busy times" signs, but I've never had to heed those warnings because there is always an open treadmill, elliptical, or weight machine. The lap pool, with the exception of afternoon swim team practices, is always operating at under capacity with ample lane space for slow swimmers like me. The space, unlike big single-room gyms, winds around itself and separates the indoor track from the free weights from the cardio machines....which means getting in a varied workout doesn't have to feel claustrophobic! It can be downright FUN to traverse the workout studio rooms and up to the "Peak," an 18+ zone where the beefiest dads can lift in peace. 3) I have been in gyms where the machines seem constantly in need of fixing or an upgrade...Stairmaster makes noises, treadmills are the narrow, old kind.....but here, the machines are state-of-the-art. I love how some of the treadmills have screens that map your runs, simulating track workouts, and how all of them have TVs built into them that link up the headphone jack. It's these types of electronic add-ons that make me want to roll my eyes as a running purist, but I have to admit they're nice perks when the Ohio winter sets in and running outside becomes a dangerous endeavor. 4) The staff is so friendly. They clearly didn't know me the first few times I went, but they read your name off the check-in monitors and greet you by name. They consistently look HAPPY to be doing their jobs. 5) The group exercises are HUGE plus when considering this gym vs. others. Instead of paying for yoga or barre studio classes, you can get them here, included in your membership. The studios are pristine, chock full of high-end mats and bikes, and the instructors are all upbeat and accommodating to beginners. I've tried out pilates, barre, and spin classes so far, and I'll be truly sad to lose them from my weekly routine once I go back to school. So, if you're looking for a family-friendly facility that's got decent hours, impeccable machines, and high-quality group exercise, I can't recommend Lifestyles more. If you like fire alarms during the middle of your workout, this place is for you. The facility is not old enough to have as many as they do. I think the maintenance staff needs to be replaced with people who realize that if you are making a bunch of smoke doing a repair, guess what the smoke detector is going to do? I haven't experienced this many fire alarms since I was in college where the drunken idiots decided it would be fun to pull the fire alarm every other week in the middle of the night for fun. Some equipment has been down for maintenance for over 6 months. Half of the tv's on the equipment don't work at all or don't work properly. read more

I would not recommend joining any of the Akron General Lifestyles. I have been a member since 2012 and things at the gym just keep going down hill. I initially joined for the group fitness classes, and slowly but surely all of the good instructors left, as well as having at least 4 different group exercise managers being at the center over the course of my membership. I did personal training at an added cost however the gym treated one of the trainers I worked with so poorly that he left the gym. So, given that they treat their staff so poorly it shouldn't have come as a surprise that they would be awful to customers as well. This past spring I attempted to cancel my membership and was advised I could only do so during my anniversary contract date, 10 months from when I was contacting them about cancelation. I got sidetracked at let the matter go at the time. I recently attempted again to cancel, now with 3 months before my anniversary date, and asked nicely that I be able to leave the gym despite the terms of the contract. I was once again informed that I could not cancel early. It's astonishing to me that a gym is so desperate for my 3 remaining months of membership dues that they're willing to fight with me about what I believe are unenforceable terms of their contract. But, that's the way things are looking. It should tell you a lot about a place when they don't give their members reasonable terms in which they can cancel. I could go on about the issues with the facility and what it offers but their unreasonable contract terms speak for themselves about their desperation for clients money. read more

The Mecca of all gyms. Not only did i frequent Lifestyles for my workout daily during my high school years, but i considered it the source of most of my socializing as well. All my friends went there and i would get to see them every day after school. I didn't realize until I moved away how spoiled i was here. Its so clean, so big, and the lockers are programable so you don't need to bring your own lock. AMAZING! Showers are clean. (major plus) and there is a kids area. pretty cool. read more

Disgusting and filthy. Pool area is never cleaned, grout where people walk is black. Mens shower area is never cleaned. Maintenance crews walk around the pool area with muddy boots. The staff boss you around and whenever you ask why something went wrong, no one is responsible. "That's nothing to do with me.' is always the response. Communication to members is poor, emails are sent out with wrong information, ie wrong hours given. Staff have been rude and when at an information desk to get information, I've been ignored.
