This is a friendly pub that is run by a welsh couple who know how to cater for the holidaymakers…read moreand the locals that mix to make up the clientele. The beers include Doombar and a guest ale for the discerning real ale drinker. The food is standard pub fayre such as steak, lasagne, ham egg chips, curry, scampi etc, but it is done really well. For example, the sirloin that was ordered rare, really was, not medium rare as you usually get. The onion rings were the usual frozen kind though and the lasagne was tasty if lacking the expected White sauce layer. The steak is £13.95 and so at the top end of pub prices but good value all the same. All the meals are available in kids portions (rather than a separate kids menu), the children were welcome in the bar and allowed to play on the pool table too. All in all a family friendly place to finish a long day on the nearby Praa Sands beach.

Nice family owned pub in Ashton. We went here at the recommendation of the owner of our cottage. I…read moreenjoyed my fish sticks and curly fries. Salad was higher quality than I had expected in a pub. Service was friendly. My husband had a good lamb shank with mint sauce. Nothing extraordinary, fairly simple, but it worked for us. And unlike the more upscale pub down the road in Germoe, this place had a free table. More old fashioned pub atmosphere than the other place too, more comfortable. This would be the better place with children, or to play a game of pool after dinner.

I would give it a 4.5 if I could but a few niggling things keep me from giving it five stars. First…read morethe good --. Starter of mouclade, which is mussels (out of the shell) in a very nice sauce. Only complaint is I would have a liked a piece of bread to enjoy the sauce. --. Main was the Sunday roast, with Cornish beef. One of the better roasts I have had. The meat was nice and pink, not over cooked. Potatoes were the star, crispy but not greasy. I also loved the gravy, clearly did not come from a mix. I felt the Yorkshire pudding was also excellent, again not from a mix. Broccoli and cauliflower, much better than your typical Sunday roast. Cabbage was not particularly thrilling but good to use up the rest of the gravy. Where it fell down a little was service. After being seated and getting our drinks, took 35 minutes to have our order taken (had to ask not once but twice). The servers were incredibly nice and friendly but such a wait is not acceptable, especially at 2:30 pm when we are quite hungry. Also charged for an extra coke (did not realize it until we were home), probably because I had to order the second one twice. If they can get their service fixed, easily five star food.

It is such an historic, atmospheric and welcoming place to visit, and it was a lovely experience. The food is excellent and exquisitely prepared and served, with a very personal touch from the professional and friendly staff. Whether you are local residents or welcome visitors, The Victoria Inn is a place to remember and return to. We will be back! Philip and Kate Shaw, Relubbus, Penzance
