The onion rings were the usual frozen kind though and the lasagne was tasty if lacking the expected White sauce layer. The steak is £13.95 and so at the top end of pub prices but good value all the same. All the meals are available in kids portions (rather than a separate kids menu), the children were welcome in the bar and allowed to play on the pool table too. All in all a family friendly place to finish a long day on the nearby Praa Sands beach.

It is a bit of a hike from the station, but it was worth it, especially as it is a really old pub (though the ceilings are low, so watch out if you are tall like me). After being seated and getting our drinks, took 35 minutes to have our order taken (had to ask not once but twice). The servers were incredibly nice and friendly but such a wait is not acceptable, especially at 2:30 pm when we are quite hungry. The range of hand-pumped real ales is far above average for St. Ives, and unlike many other establishments in the town it is not affiliated with or owned by St. Austell Brewery. As a result the beer selection offers real variety. They offer live music events on a regular basis, and it is one of those places where locals and tourists mix. Recommended.
