It's easy to walk past it, very easy in fact. And if you're one to judge a book by the cover then you might be hesitant to try this pub. What drew me into the pub was a small white menu posted outside their cream colored pub - a questionable move but either way I glanced and it and saw something called the "Nemo Burger." It was a breadcrumb battered fish fillet with gherkins, and salad between two ciabatta buns. I ordered it happily thinking I would get a fairly decent sized burger but instead the monstrosity they placed in front of me would have sufficed for at least a small family. The only way to describe it was a fish and chip sized fillet in between two slender ciabatta buns. My husband ordered the fish and chips , which were of an equally sizable portion and ate his without giving me a taste (rude). When we went it was not a particularly nice day, that is to say, it was awful. It was blustery, with a biting wind, and spitting rain as the cherry on top. After a fairly lengthy and very cold coastal walk sauntering into this little pub, being sat next to a warm fire, and eating this amazing feast was the perfect way to end the day. The price of the food was a bit pricey, the total cost for food and tea for both my husband and I came to £35 but for the amount of food we received it was well worth it. He servers were extremely attentive though we were the only diners in at the odd hour and our food came quickly. So if you find yourself at the Lizard, tired after a long day of walking I would recommend getting a pint, warm food, and resting your weary feet here.

The manager that sat down with us to tell us about the history of the building, the impressive vegetarian menu and just the general ambience of the place. We chose to eat here for two reasons: 1 - the menus are written outside on chalkboards near the road. That way you can see what's being served without going in to ask for a menu. This is very good for us because as vegetarians, we've had to leave restaurants before if they don't have veggie options. 2 - it was one of the few places open. Just a friendly tip--don't go on holiday in November. Everything is frickin' shut. A lesson we learned the hard way! Anyhow, the Crumplehorn had it's doors open and we were lucky to have gone in. This place was one of the highlights of our Cornwall holiday. A must if you're visiting Polperro or Looe.

The Smugglers Den Inn is a 16th century thatched inn with family, beer garden, childrens play area and ample parking. The beer garden is where we like to crash and relax. While the kids play on the apparatus we chill with a ool drink in the sun and order from the menu full of lovely food and they always have plenty of specials on the board all made using the freshest local ingredients. It is situated in a little village called Trebellan, near Cubert, less than than 15 minutes from Newquay. You approach down a steep, high sided road which is typically Cornish and the pub is right before you and very welcoming. They have regular live entertainment and also have an annual Real Ale and Pie Festival which is is it's 9th year. It's definitely worth pulling off the beaten track and seeking it out for a refreshing treat.

This place is very unspoilt it has a small fishing harbour where a few cobbles operate out of. Just above the harbour is the Paris Hotel named after the Paris liner that ran aground on the manacle rocks many years previous. We stopped on a Saturday afternoon and they had stopped serving food (they started again at 6.30pm) but I had a beer and my long suffering Partner had a cup of Tea (her turn to drive) they had a good selection of beers and I had a look at the menu and the selection looked mouth watering. If you just want to enjoy a drink the views are outstanding it was worth the visit just for them they also have accommodation which at the time of writing (Sept 2009) was only £30.00 per person per night inc. Breakfast which I thought was very reasonable, it will definitely be on my stop and stay overnight list next time we have a break down in Cornwall.
