I was in SGF, desperate for an emergency hair and beard trim before a big video conference call…read morethat popped up on my calendar, so I decided to try Dapper Barber because it looked like a place I could trust to trim my beard correctly. Boy, am I glad I did! The owner, Sean, cut my hair and beard, and 1) my beard has never looked better, because 2) nobody has ever paid so much attention to detail and been so meticulous in shaping it. I walked into Dapper Barber looking frizzled and slightly homeless, and when I walked out, I felt like I could have stepped into a beard competition and had a fighting chance at a trophy. Sean also did an excellent job with my hair, and convinced me that I was combing my hair slightly wrong for the past decade, showed me a better way to do it, and then shaped the hair up around it, and it looks better. Why haven't the many barbers I've been to over the years noticed that and offered to fix it for me? IDK, but Sean did, and I'm grateful. He's truly an artist and a craftsman with scissors and clippers, and he's good company, too. Further, the ambiance at Dapper is... well, dapper. The place is like a museum of dapper gentlemanhood over the years. Next time I'm in town, I'll plan to be there longer for another hair and beard trim, and to spend extra time marveling at all the artifacts and curiosities around the shop. One could make men's I Spy books by taking pictures of the shop--and I'd buy that, too! It's a shame I live so far from SGF; otherwise, I'd never go to another barbershop again in my life.

GOOD HAIRCUT, STUPID PRICING…read more Pretty good job done. My barber is only 1 in 2 that has ever used a bit of imagination when I told her "you choose what looks good" when asked how I wanted it cut. I don't know hair. And there is such a vast amount of different styles. So she done well. Just wasn't good at talking shop it seems, but neither am I. And she washed my hair afterwards to get out the loose hair. Oh, and she didn't let me see myself in the mirror until after she was finished; not important, just different. And she put a hot towel on my face while washing my hair. What struck me negatively was their pricing. $20 I'm okay with. But then they ask for a tip on top of their premium pricing. And $25 for a shave. Shaves take less time and possibly cost less in materials. Want to emulate the goodness of old time barber shops? Keep doing a good job and offer honest prices. So, the experience was okay. They used good products. And most importantly, she done a good job with my hair. Will I go there again? Only when I need the utmost from my appearance.

My daughter walked in with a bad haircut and dye job done at a different salon, that she was trying to grow out. She was hesitant and worried about getting it done. The stylist took the time to really talk to her about her hair goals, and what she wanted it to look like. She was honest with what she could do to fix it, and suggested what would make it look better. Her hair looks absolutely stunning. She has incredible highlights, with rich red undertones. The haircut is modern and looks like something out of a magazine. And I was super surprised at the very reasonable cost! My family has found their new salon home in the Springfield area. I felt like the stylist cared about how her hair was going to look and not just about getting the next client in the chair.

I visited Moda for a cut and color in August. My stylist was Ivy…read more After reading Yelp reviews, I made my appointment at Moda. I was not disappointed. My hair was heavily bleached and had been dyed "brown" several times since a horrible bleaching mistake. I had a weird color (not a good one) of puke blonde at the ends, dark brown (at my scalp) and mousy brown in the middle. Appealing, eh? I needed the stylist to fill the blonde hair which had no pigment and could not retain color, then dye it all brown. Ivy did exactly what I asked and a nice shape up cut. Although not an awesome end result - at no fault of the stylist - due to my damaged hair and unwillingness to cut any additional length. I was pleased with an even color and no more frazzled ends. I would go to Ivy and/or Moda again. The price was also reasonable for two processes and a cut. Parking is sparse, so be prepared to not just run in the door (like I did!).

Wait, people don't say that anymore but for real she does an great job. She will give you advice on your best look, but ultimately does whatever you ask. She can give you a super edgy look, or keep it classic with highlights or an all over color. The layout of the salon is very smooth and follows with each stylist. The waiting area has a great fish tank ( to keep people entertained) and the receptionist is very polite and helpful when making appointments around a busy schedule. This prices are compare able to any downtown or modern salon in town. I have long hair and it costs around $100 depending on if I get my eye browns done or just a cut and color. Lastly- she has NEVER made my eyebrows look bad so you won't be seeing me on any of those epic fail eyebrow threads. Ha. Ha.

Being a mom and living an hour and a half away from this salon, I don't always get the chance to get my hair done often. But I decided I needed some change and have been talking to Megan Jessy about chopping my hair off and starting the blonde journey from black hair. Today was my first session and my hair came out exactly how I expected if not better! As you should know, going from dark hair to blonde is a PROCESS. It doesn't happen after one or even two sessions. This was Megan's first time doing a balayage on me and she was seriously so amazing and personable! I highly recommend her. And her cutting skills? I am the pickiest person when it comes to cut. I come from Nashville, TN where I spent good money on haircuts. And let me tell you, Megan is one of the BEST. I had to upload updated photos because Yelp lacked them. Truly, Honey + Hive is a hidden gem. I've been to 3 different salons in town and this one is where you need to go.
