I really wanted LP to be better than this rating. - Is it…read moreclean? Seemingly yes in the public areas. - Are there basic systems to make sure your loved one in Independent Living (IP) isn't found dead days later. Yes. - Other than that, it is so very challenging to provide a review of all the issues related to: -- lack of follow-through by IP staff with family caregivers, -- lack of the same by the medical department, and even more so when (gosh forbid) your elder has to go to Rose Court because RC and Medical don't seemingly share data on your loved one. (BTW, the emergency care team at RC is great in and of itself.) Keep your loved one away from the live-in side of RC except for those in deep need of 24X7X365 help. It's a lock-down unit. --lack of staff owning up to/ responsibility not doing their jobs Are the grounds lovely, yes. Is the food really a 1/2 step down from anywhere you don't want to eat again, yes. The local HS kids try to provide good service but fall short. I will admit it can't be easy on the dining room managers to manage the quality of food delivered, food prep itself and training kids in hospitality to serve seniors. And all this for a $250K* buy in (1bdrm) plus ~$2K a month rent with one meal included. Lots of activities are available but I can't speak to the quality. 90% returned to estate when resident dies. *Price from about 5 years ago so this has probably increased. I'm just so frustrated. It's too late for my person to leave because it would be too much disruption. I will keep on advocating and try not to lose my mind. For whomever reads this review, survey all the options and if LP keeps rising to the top then know you will need to be your person's absolute advocate at every turn, with every interaction. Get yourself a notebook and keep it with you to track every interaction.

Linden Ponds is "independent senior living." You put up a huge sum of money to move in, and then pay an outrageous monthly fee that amounts to a condo fee, with a meal plan thrown in. The food is mediocre at best. How they can possibly justify their $4,000+ a month fee (when you've already given them hundreds of thousands to pay for your apartment) is a mystery. They put my mother, who has dementia, in an ambulance one day and NO ONE CALLED ME. My mother was on a gurney in the hospital, alone, for 12 hours before a nice nurse took pity on my Mom and helped her to call me. I would have rained hellfire down on them for this, but my mother was still living there and I didn't want them to take my fury out on my Mom. Mom is at a new place now where for NO deposit and a bit more each month she gets three meals a day, laundry, and housekeeping done for her. Linden Ponds charges extra for EVERYTHING. It was a very happy day for me when we drove out of their, never to return.

After several months on their waiting list, my father's financials and medical records were reviewed to ensure that they could care for him this review included the doctor we requested he be assigned to . The Admissions Director informed us they had a room for him and arranged his transfer. On that day my father was loaded onto transport and my brother went to the Dwyer Home ahead of Him. When he arrived the head nurse said that they wouldn't accept my dad because of new information she had received, supposedly that day. She said my dad's records showed he was a wanderer and sexually aggressive. Everything she said was a lie. The case worker didn't send any new records that week, my dad is not a wander. He is not even ambulatory. He can't get in and out of a wheel chair. He is not on a locked ward and he isn't capable of remembering or entering a code in a key pad to open an exit door. Additionally my dad has never been aggressive. He's had the same health care assistant bathing him for 20 years and she adores him. So did his caregivers in assisted living and in his current nursing home. The nurse at Dwyer Home didn't call us to tell us they wouldn't accept him. When my brother went out to get his paper work. The nurse locked him out. No one from the Dwyer Home ever returned our calls or emails to apologize or explain. I jad explained to the Admissions Director, who told us she had a bed for him, that I was very worried about the care he was currently receiving. He had gone from walking on his own toBnot being able to adjust himself in bed in just a get months. Additionally, they had him so medicated he was sleeping all the time. She assured me that they could treat my dad's sun downers without over medicating him. My father served his country his entire life. He retired as a a lieutenant colonel after 20 years in the US Airforce. He worked at NASA, FAA, DOT & MITRE. He was one of the 1st US military personnel stationed in England to install intercontinental balistic missiles at Dwight D Eisenhower's direction during the cold war. He lead the JTIDs program that provides a 360 degree view for us fighter pilots. Jim P's terrific review says it all. Orchid Cove is better than great in just about every way! Had a nice lunch there today with mom. Perfectly grilled Rueban with fries for a side. Came out quick and hot. Eaten there many times and it's always good with courteous, attentive service. That being said dining is by invitation only from a resident. Lucky me. It's not perfect - no place is - but the relatively small problems at OC do not in any way overshadow the friendly and helpful staff, good food, interesting and useful programs (including performances, art classes, book club, talks on various topics, etc.). I looked at numerous elder communities with my aunt before she moved here, and you will not find anything better (although you will find others that are also excellent - the final choice is determined by location, cost, environment, and personal preference). I would not at all hesitate at all to choose OC for an elder community!

We have met many wonderful neighbors and friends. Oak Point offers fantastic amenities. There are three swimming pools, two hot tubs, tennis courts, a basketball gym, fitness center and billiard tables. The social director is top notch. There are plenty of activities, including concerts, dances, comedy shows, karaoke, line dancing and bingo. There are also many clubs, including a classic car club, writing club, garden club, women's club, singles club....and many, many more. Many Oak Point residents volunteer in the community and raise money for local charities and causes. For example, the Oak Point Homeowners Scholarship Association hosts an enormous yard sale every year to raise money for college scholarships for Middleboro HS graduating seniors. The landlord, Hometown America, has been stepping up its game recently. For example, the snow removal and landscaping have improved. There are still some issues, so be sure to hire a home inspector and insist he checks under the home, where some homes have had water and other issues. The monthly fee includes property taxes, trash pickup, landscaping, snow removal, sewage treatment and use of the enormous clubhouse. Oak Point is an excellent value and a wonderful, albeit imperfect, community.

I visited several Independent Living homes and the Village was by far the best. It's set on top of a hill overlooking Waterman lake which is breathtaking from spring through fall. The facility is immaculate and the staff goes out of their way to make sure the residents have the resources they need. One of the first things I noticed when my parents moved in was how friendly and welcoming the other residents are. You can tell people enjoy being there, and my parents did too for their short time there. Their health deteriorated faster than any of us expected and they both needed to be moved quickly into the nursing home. If you meet Moriah, the general manager, (or house mom as my parents called her), she is always dressed to the nines with flawless make-up and four inch heels. When my dad needed to be moved to the nursing home, I noticed she had swapped out her skirt and heels for jeans and sneakers. She and two of the facility nurses pushed my dad down to the nursing home in a rolling recliner to make sure he could be moved comfortably and safely. She did the same for my mom when it was her turn. Moriah set-up the move in days and pushed my mom's wheelchair, this time in her heels, to her new room. If my parents had still been in North Carolina when their health crashed, or in a less accommodating facility, I don't know what I would have done. Every staff member in that place from the top to the bottom did what they needed to do to take care of my parents, and that is an invaluable service when you are dealing with aging loved ones.
