The restaurant itself is vibrant and exciting with a friendly and lively buzz about the place. For starters we had salt-fish fish cakes and jerk chicken wings. Those fish cakes where the best fish cakes I have ever eaten. Delicately flavoured, cooked to perfection and tasted wonderful. Even though they where made from salt fish they where not overly salty. The flavours where well balanced and complimented each other beautifully. The jerk chicken came in a very moorish and very tasty jerk gravy. Now I know traditionally jerk chicken is not supposed to come in a gravy or a sauce, but this was exceptional. Every now and then a restaurant has to push the boundaries of what is the norm in its cuisine and I like that. This was definitely one of those occasions and it paid off big time. It did as expected have a kick to it but with the accompanying yoghurt and mint dip to cool things down that did take the edge off. For mains I had the curried goat and white rice. We also had the slow cooked jerk pork belly with rice and peas. To accompany the mains we had two portions of the sweet fried dumplings. The goat curry tasted wonderful. Again very well flavoured and not too overpowering. Sometimes you can get a curried goat that knocks your head off and you find yourself guzzling down glasses of mile and fresh orange juice for the next fortnight, but this was spot on. Not a single scrap was left. The pork belly was beautifully cooked and fell away at the touch of a knife. All in all this was a fantastic lunch. Not too pricey either and it is well worth making a special journey for. I'll definitely be returning and I'd gladly recommend this place to anyone who wants fantastic Caribbean home cooking.

This restaurant offers a variety of delicious offerings, including Oxtail, Curry Goat, and Brown Stew Chicken. It is worth noting that Jerk Chicken is only available on the weekends. The ackee (also known as 'vegetable brain'!) is a fruit that can be poisonous if it's not prepared properly - but rest assured I've had this dish many times from here without any ill effects!

A small, eerily lit cafe located on St Paul's small and somewhat dilapidated high street area, it serves Caribbean food by day to a crowd pretty much entirely formed of locals, and by night - like many neighbouring cafes, pubs and restaurants, lock-ins. I found myself here after taking a wrong turn for the Star and Garter and was served the strongest rum and coke I have perhaps ever had the misfortune to taste, surrounded by some sinister company indeed in a weird atmosphere. We legged it after the sexual aggression became too much to handle, and sought refuge in a slightly tamer (although no less locals-only, this is no average nightlife strip) pub on the same street. It's clearly not the kind of place which is used to (relative) strangers to the area invading its personal space, so unless you're born and bred St Pauls I'd stay away.

I went there for lunch today and was made very welcome, I ordered a chicken stew and a guava soda, and my colleague had a jerked pork dish. The portion sizes were generous, the food was beautifully presented and it was absolutely delicious. The food is made fresh from scratch on site and cooked while you wait, but that said we were not kept waiting long and a visit to this restaurant can easily fit within a lunch hour. I thought Redbones was very good value for money, a typical dish is currently around £5.99 with soft drinks £1.99 each. There were a range of starters and desserts on offer too. I would like to visit again on an evening and would recommend this restaurant, I thought it was better value than other Caribbean restaurants I have tried in the area. I asked about whether alcoholic drinks were available and I was advised you can bring your own, there is a Tesco very nearby and for a small corkage charge Redbones will supply glasses. As I walked passed this afternoon there was 6-7 old Jamaican guys inside hanging out, eating and listening to some chilled reggae music. It looked really cool! So I walked in - and stopped all conversation! I don't think they get many 30 years old caucasian guys with macbooks asking for a curry goat and the wifi password! That's the impression I got, anyway! After they realised I wasn't going to ask for directions, they were all really helpful and really funny. "Sure man, take a seat brotha" I was told when I ordered the curry and can of diet coke. The food came out 5 minutes later in a polystyrene container and plastic fork in a napkin. I was expecting a plate, but I didn't mind, It looked great. And it was! Really good actually! As always the meat had a lot of bones, but the flavour was really powerful. Not spicy, just a taste that lasted for ages. The rice and peas was also really good. Not the best I've had, but it wasn't all clumpy like some can be. The weird thing was, that when I walked in, it there was a couple of tables of people chatting and chilled reggae playing, but within less than 10 minutes there was nobody. No staff. Nobody! And the music had gone from reggae to POUNDING jump up/jungle. It was bonkers, but really funny! I had no idea what was going on.
