I have never been so rattled and intimidated by a business proprietor as I was today…read more I had been a customer for several years and was always pleased with his craftsmanship Approximately 6 months ago or so, I went to Instant Shoe to discuss repairing the inside of a valuable pocketbook. At that time, he quoted me $40.00. I told him I would think about it. I returned today with the pocketbook and was told he wouldn't touch it for less than $125.00-$150.00. That's a huge increase. He does not have a price list available to the public. I believe he makes up the prices and he goes. I reminded him that he quoted me $40.00 months ago and he called me a liar, saying it was longer that a couple months. We all know how times flies, so maybe it was more than several months. Irregardless, it was the same pocketbook in the same condition when he quoted me $40.00 Then he went on a rant of how expensive his products have increased. During most of the conversation his demeanor was very loud, rude and dismissive. I have read other reviews and I'm not the only person he has treated in such a unprofessional manner. A very nasty man. Pam

Both pairs came out almost better than new, in durability and aesthetics. He went out of his way to find the perfect soles for my shoes. Done in just a few days, $50 and $65 to add another 10-15 years to shoes that I love. Maybe he comes off as a little brusque, but you don't find many old school cobblers anywhere, and this guy loves his work.

I should have searched here first before I brought in my well loved, beloved, well worn hiking…read moreboots. The heel had started to disintegrate and the sole stitching somewhat broken. An internet search wielded this place as a master boot repairer (NOT!). The boots were womens and what he did was repurpose a man's replacement on to them. Not only are they SO much heavier now (if any of you are hikers you will understand) and the heel is off center and higher to than it was. Admire the crappy workmanship handiwork repair in the pictures. Like others here I went in the following week when he said they would be ready and he had not even started on them. He made me pay upfront and in hindsight I believe he knew that he was not going to repair them accordingly. Loss of time and money and ruined my beloved boots. No stars if I could but needed 1 to post. Don't go here, it's really not worth it. Now I have to find new hiking boots and break them in after spending $70 here for nothing.

In five years, I've had several shoe repairs, a leather pocketbook repair, and some miscellaneous…read morerepairs that required heavy-duty sewing. All were done excellently, and at a very reasonable price. (Sam charges before the repair, so there's no surprise high cost). Once I went in to have a shoe stretched to have room for a bandaged toe, and he said that the shoe material would spring back within a couple days. So he recommended instead, that I remove the thick inner pad until the bandage came off; he cut a thin leather to replace it, at very low charge. Another visit, I was second in line when a lady came in to pick up a glossy red shoe that had been severely scuffed. Sam had matched the color perfectly, but no one could have restored the full gloss where it flexed. But the lady was not satisfied. So Sam refunded her money completely, despite having done a couple hours' work. He is competent, helpful, and ethical. That's the way he does business.
