We brought in a pair of leather shoes which were stained during cooking. We were concerned they were permanently damaged and couldn't be repaired but the gentleman went into the back of the store and worked on the stains and got them out. I don't know if this cobbler shop is still there. I moved to Wakefield, MA in 1985, and started going to the Town Cobbler back then. The work he did was the very best. He kept my shoes in good condition for many years, at very little cost to me. But as time went on I noticed that the shop wasn't always opened. Another shop opened downtown, so I went there for a while. The woman who ran that store would take it upon herself to dye my shoes a different color when I went in to have heels replaced. So I tried to go back to the Town Cobbler. But he was never opened when I went there again. The shop was still there, but the door was always locked. read more

Solid local business that everyone should support! This man brought all of my dead shoes back to life with new soles and heels, and a healthy coat of polish. When I dropped them off, the shoes looked like I found them in the dumpster. When I picked them up, they looked like they just came out of dust bags from the store - great as new. AMAZING!!! I needed the little rubber tip on the bottom of my high heels replaced (I guess I walk like an ogre), and the cobbler got them back to me the next day! He even asked if I needed them the same day. Super fair prices, and SO TALENTED! This heel repair on 2 pairs of shoes was $30. I swear the repaired shoes look even better than when I first bought them. Cash/check only, but he gives you a slip with your quote on it so you have time to be prepared with the right amount of cash. 10/10 recommend. read more

In the process of repairing them I've used him for years but not anymore. He told me a few wks to repair the seam that came apart since he was going on vacation not a problem. Well, I came into get this not ready (gave him an x wk to settle in), finally picked them up HORRIBLE job!!! Now where he repaired since he rushed it they cracked. Aldo leather boots; which are not inexpensive boots. Now I have to go back and show him; which is now just a waste of my time once again. Needless to say I will not be using this place ever again. This great shoe repair shop is most definitely NOT closed! And the owner is still providing miraculous fixes to shoes one would think beyond help - as well as regular services of heel or lift replacement, resoling, stretching too tight shoes and all the services one remembers from such places back in the day. All still right here, alive and well in Wakefield. I notice there are no new reviews listed and this may account for the erroneous information that the store is closed. Several years ago, there was a prolonged period when the store was closed, but that was a long time ago and since then all was back to normal. On a lighter note, the owner sometimes brings his adorable little Yorkie in to keep him company. She (he?) sits on top of some machine or table keeping an eye on the premises. Great work done for a reasonable price and a cute dog sometimes. What more could one ask for!? read more

First, I will start as saying that this is a biased review, so....take it how you will. My friend's dad owns the place and I work with her, so I never have to go out of my way to get my shoes fixed. However, his prices are little less than the other cobbler I used to go to and definately less that when I didn't know about cobblers and tried take my shoes to Zoots. They tried charging me $60 to fix my soles; Mr. Doulis charged $18. I haven't any problems with any of the work, so I'm happy. read more

The positive reviews are EXTREMELY misleading. Brought an expensive belt in for a very minor repair so i could sell it and the owner ruined the belt. He has denied any wrongdoing and his only attempt at a solution was to take a grinding stone and try to sand off the damage he did. Zero manners, zero responsibility. My only choice now is small claims court. Do yourself a favor and find a better shops, maybe one that doesn't smell like an ashtray (even through a face mask). read more

Cobblers do still exist! Recently I noticed the leather piping on my handbag was worn and was prepared to use a sharpie. I decided to look up a cobbler and give a call for advice. He told me to bring the bag over. When I told my kids I was taking a ride over to the cobbler they didn't think they still existed! We all took the ride over and it is fascinating to see good quality repairs done on quality items. It is like stepping back in time and makes you aware that you can fix instead of throwing out and re-purchasing. Oh, and he did take my bag and in less than 5 min made it look brand new- no charge. Took my very expensive shoes here that I purchased in Paris. They were delicate and the back part of the shoe needed to be restitched to hold the straps together. It looked like a challenge to me but the owner took them on a Thursday and said I was able to pick them up on Saturday! He was friendly and the shoes came back in perfect condition, like new. After having had a second-hand nightmare experience with the cobbler down the street, I went to Town Cobbler to have my heels fixed--they had popped off on one of Boston's charming cobble-stoned streets. He used adhesive and then his fancy nail machine to put them back together. He even reinforced my other unbroken heel and didn't charge me for anything. Very professional! I'll be back! read more

I came back in 2 and he couldn't find my shoes and then found them in a pile of junk and had done no work. Don't bother. Place is useless. I see people getting shoes done. I don't know who they are. I looked up reviews for a cobbler in my area (Stoneham) and this man had some phenomenal comments attributed to him. I decided to give him a try - to fix a bag that I had just managed to completely break the strap off of the other day. I showed up at the end of his day - 5:45. He studied it for a bit and started trying to figure out how to best fix it. You could see he became determined and brought it to one of his working station. About 10 minutes later, he had managed to fix it and spray it with a super strong adhesive to make sure it would be nice and durable. He pulled on it right in front of me and it looked stronger than it had been new. I tried insisting, but he wouldn't take any money. He just wished me good luck with the baby - I'm 9.25 months pregnant. I will be bringing this hard working man ALL of my shoes. THRILLED! read more

I figured that Town Cobbler needed an unbiased review that is equally as glowing as the first review. I have been going to this place for a long time for everything including putting Taps on my tap shoes, stitching my dance sneakers, replacing heels on dress shoes, fixing buckles, polishing boots, etc. The guy is awesome! He does a fabulous job fixing shoes, even ones that you think may be beyond repair, and his prices are reasonable if not even a little on the cheap side. I brought a pair of boots and a leather handbag to be repaired in June. The boots were done beautifully and it made me excited for what he could do for my handbag. He said it would take 2 weeks. I went back 3 weeks later and he told me it wasn't done and to come back the next week. I called weekly to check on my bag and he kept saying it would be done next week. It is October and I went to collect it today and he had never even started it. The excuse of "I kept forgetting" does not stand up when it is over a 3 month period and he didn't even attempt to start it! Needless to say, I asked for a refund (I prepaid) and took my bag so it could actually start the process of getting fixed. Extremely disappointed. read more

I wrote a review about Main Street Shoe Repair after making the mistake of bringing my husband's poor skates there once and made reference to my "usual" cobbler who I love. Here. Right here, Town Cobbler is the best. And less than a block from that other hack, so I'm not sure why ANYBODY goes there and not here. I've never had anything but a great experience with Town Cobbler. The work they do is fantastic, they are more than reasonably priced and I have never, EVER gotten anything back a moment after they told me the work would be done. Highly recommended. EDIT: I brought a pair of skate (They're expensive and get repaired like good shoes. I play roller derby.) to the cobbler down the street and she did a hack job. It was so bad that I had to have them fixed AGAIN to not only do the repair we had originally intended for her to do, but to also fix the damage she had done. I brought a pair of wedgies in a few months back. It needed new heels. He said he reinforced the wedge and put the little flat rubber heels on and they looked pretty good. I wore them twice and the second time the soles fell off. I brought them back and he said he would fix them for an additional $20.00. I had already paid him $30.00. He said he didn't remove the soles so it wasn't his fault. I don't see how he could've reinforced the wedge without removing the sole. So, I bought shoe glue and fixed them myself. The soles stayed on fine, but the wedges collapsed. So after spending 30.00 to him and 10.00 for the glue I have to throw the shoes out. read more

They put new heels, half sole and toe caps on men's dress shoes over the holidays. Did a great job, were done on time, shoes were over 10 years old but came back with a nice shine and almost as good as new. Price was good and the gentleman friendly. read more

I brought in a pair of leather boots I purchased in Italy. One of the heels had completely detached, the lining was ripped, and the bottoms scuffed. He completely reconstructed them. I've taken countless pairs of shoes & several purses to be repaired at this shop and have always been happy with the results. He even has made a couple small repairs (adding an extra hole to a strap, cutting a strap that's too long, etc.) for free! I've never had a problem with my items being late. In January, I brought in a Michael Kors handbag in which the straps needed to be re-done. I was told various dates to come retrieve the bag and every time I went, it was not ready. I began to call first and still no set date. He then told me he would call me when it was done. No call. March comes around and I decide to go take it back to bring somewhere else. When I went to retrieve it, he told me it's been ready for 2 weeks. When I asked why he never called, he said he forgot he told me he would call. The work done was excellent but the frustration and length of time for it to be done was much too long, in my opinion. read more

Ok, so I have mixed feelings about giving him a one star because he actually never fixed my boots. He may do great work, but I'll never know. I brought a pair of boots in to have fixed and it was a big job. He should have told me up front that it was above his head, but didn't. I brought them in on December 15th. He said he wasn't very busy and would start working on them. I called on January 4th and he didn't even start them yet. He kept telling me he would start them and when I came in to try them on, he would tell me they hadn't been started. On January 13th (nearly a month later), I went in and they still weren't started, so I picked them up. I hear there's a great place in Somerville, I'll go there next. read more
