Worst hotel and they charged our card 3 times! First impression was was that the room was dirty. Then we had a DOG barking in the room next to us(sounded like a chihuahua) so we asked to change rooms. We told the girl at the front desk and she moved us upstairs and as soon as we got upstairs it smelled like burnt popcorn and the people across from us looked like they were living there with their door open playing video games and had their tv extremely loud that we could still hear the tv with our door closed and they eventually closed their door ....you could still hear it. So we told the girl at the front desk that we were leaving and going to another hotel (we were extremely nice about it bc we didn't think anything was her fault, but she seemed offended)....Well she ended up charging our card 3 times.... Dealing with the bank now to get the charges taken off. Everything about the hotel was gross and we do NOT recommend staying here. Go across the street!!!! read more

My family and I booked 4 rooms for the weekend. When I showed up to check-in I was told there was not a reservation under my name. I pulled up my email from expedia with confirmation and was told they didn't have my room. I was told to call Expedia and I did and spent over an hour on hold only to be told the hotel had "over booked". There is a large event in town and rooms are so expensive the night of. I was lucky enough my family could make room for me and my son. Money is why this hotel over booked, they wanted to book someone without any discounts from a 3rd party website. If I could give less than one star I would. The hotel had an eight.6 rating on booking.com. I absolutely am super careful about bugs and dirty places. We checked into this hotel and immediately did what we always do... We stripped the beds and started looking to make sure there were no bedbugs. What we found was absolutely DISGUSTING! The phone look like it hadn't been cleaned ever... And had sticky food on it. There were some kind of bugs under the mattress on top of the dust ruffle. In the creases of the mattress behind the headboard were food and crumbs and hair etc.... there were crumbs and other dirt in the nightstand drawer. And the absolute worst of the worst was the biggest nasty stain under the second bed on the mattress. We called the night attendant, Jared, down to look at it in person. He came down and got all weird on us. He said he could see the dirt and that we were doing a full bed check. He didn't offer to do anything for us in terms of giving us a different room. And when I could tell it wasn't registering I asked him for a refund. He told me he wouldn't refund the money that my dogs had already sat on the bed. It's a pet friendly hotel and we paid the nightly fee for both of our pets. It's not a big room and we hadn't even been in it for five minutes. Where would you think pets would sleep in a pet friendly hotel? My dogs are cleaner than that place has been in 10 years! The statement that takes the cake and absolutely made my jaw hit the floor is that Jared told us we "just needed to get into bed and go to sleep!!" Ummmmm I DONT THINK SO! I've only seen one place worse than this and all my travels over decades. I would avoid this place like the plague. Cleaning people suck and Managment clearly doesn't care or want to do anything to make anything right for somebody. . Spread the word! So after driving from Phoenix AZ and getting our hotel Quality Inn or NO Quality Inn in Raton NM. We go into our room. A/C not working Paid for a queen bed with a couch we get a double bed and no couch go to the front desk and ask to be moved. They offer a fan. Idiots We books the room months ago not last night and they put us in a terrible room. I was not expecting the Wyndham but I did expect to get everything we paid for. I will tLk to mgr in the morning and my husband is going to call corporate and file a formal complaint. If we had not unpacked and got set up for the night we would of demanded our money back and left. Spend the money somewhere else. Saw owner this am after a long restless night got 15 dollars off. Should of been 1/2 price. My loss not his won't ever go back. Says "renovations" done by who. Was not a void job rust on fixture on a supposedly newly updated room. The rooms were really nice A/C worked great and the blackout curtains kept the evening sun out so the room was cool. They have a hot breakfast available in the morning. Pool and hot tub also. I would recommend this place to friend traveling in the Raton area. I will stay here again when in the area. read more

We stay in Raton every year for one night. Most of the time the hotel experience is unmemorable. Not great not bad just lukewarm. Changed it up and stayed at the Quality Inn off Clayton. The owner Mr. Patel was amazing. I had trouble with my online booking and he patiently guided me through it. We forgot bathing suits and he gave me a name with directions for a clothing store. Needed food and he gave me a list of his favorites. He even made a point to great my family by name the next morning. The rest of the staff were kind , the accommodations were clean and the indoor pool was a bonus. If given the chance, STAY HERE!!! read more

When we walked into the room it was like a motel from the 70's. Grungy old bathroom fixtures, old dark green grungy bedspread and grungy old plastic ice bucket. I booked a handicap accessible room for my mother who is in her late seventies and had 2 knee replacements in the past year. When we arrived we were told there were no accessible rooms AND no elevator. No apologies or attempts to correct it. The clerk kept telling us it wasn't her fault. That's all she could offer. Do not let the no AC in the lobby or hallway fool you, this place is a dump. Booked online for a family vacation and was put off by the foul order throughout the hotel. Literally smelled like mold. Once inside the room, it did not get any better. This is the type of place that you check under the mattress for bed bugs. None were found, but there was puke stains down the mattress and box springs. That is a no go for me. Walked down stairs and checked out, they still charged me for the room, which is fine, expect the lady at the front desk started complaining to me when I asked how long to get a receipt after more than 20 minutes of waiting for it to print. We stayed here a week ago. Long story, $140, our fault and another motel's fault..we had no reservations. Fast forward to tonight..same price. I showed an online price. Young guy summoned his non-american manager. Told us he would not honor it. He then said that he was 100% full, while there was only 2 cars in the parking lot at 4pm. Stayed for 1 night and got 3 rooms and when we checked in our rooms 1 room had human feces in the toilet. Went down and told them and they gave us another room and that room had dirty towels. Told them about the towels and they just said they were sorry. Next day I see on my account that they charged me $79. I called to ask why and they said because they saw dog hair on the sheets ( we don't own dogs and didn't have any pets with us ) After what they put us through they still charged us that pet fee. Feb 28, 2014. On our way back to. Colorado from Arizona we stopped Raton. My husband thought this looked ok & I checked some of the reviews like I always do when traveling. It had good reviews. Yes, it was clean. The building & furniture both showed age & wear & tear. But for one nite was fine. Breakfast was nothing to write home about. Pillows on the bed were interesting, they were squares. And very flat. All of this isn't a big thing. But when I asked my husband after we left how much we paid, it was $100.00. It was way over priced. I'm sure the next time we need to stop in that town we will stay somewhere else. read more

We stayed at this Hotel because it was the only hotel room available the night we came though Raton. It was late and we just needed a room for the night. The cleanliness of the room was appalling. When I was getting ready to get into bed, I pulled down the covers. On the side of the bed there were a pair of slippers, from I'm guessing, the last guest? That morning the toilet ended up getting clogged. My husband was handed a plunger to unclog it himself. After our breakfast we went to use the restroom in the lobby and again the toilet was not working. We asked the front desk person where we could use the bathroom, as our toilet wasn't working and the lobby wasn't either. The answer we were given was we were asked to leave and seek a bathroom elsewhere. We stay in Raton often and when in town we will avoid this Quality Inn and we recommend avoiding it to. read more

Wow, we usually have good experiences at hotels, but this experience was horrible. As a military family, we travel frequently and reserved a room at approximately 9pm on our way to Colorado. We were told that our card would not be charged until we arrived by a clerk as we had a AAA & Military discount. We called within 30 minutes to cancel the reservation since it was getting late and decided to stay at a Quality Inn closer to our vicinity. The owner Arian of the Quality Inn, who we were told ran our card, did so without our permission and also did not apply any discount. After booking at a closer Quality Inn and asking for a refund from the Quality Inn at the Clayton NM location, the owner refused to refund us. Didn't offer us a credit of any sort. He didn't offer us anything. Very rude! This is absolutely horrendous customer service, and we will personally tell everyone we know not to stay at this particular Quality Inn on 1st street in Clayton NM. Good job. read more

Clean. Comfy beds. Helpful staff (had problem with the TV and they helped). But for $134/night why are there no dark curtains!I can't sleep with light blaring in. There is a curtain that shuts out some light but by 5:00 am I was wide awake. This is my first vacation in 4 years. I should be able to sleep!! If I could give less than 1 Star I would! The staff at this location are very rude! I was told "they weren't in the mood to listen to me" as she answered her personal cell phone and walked away! When I spoke with the manager about it he gave me excuses for the way she spoke to me saying she was going through a rough time. No apology, no "I'm sorry I'll take care of it" NOTHING!! Bad taste in my mouth for this hotel. Will never stay there again. We checked into the Raton Quality Inn in Raton, NM. then left after less than a half hour. Paid $100 for the room, we walked away from it...it was filthy. The desk clerk said no one could clean the room. The owner, Patel, cleaned the bathroom floor. Evidently, no one else could be bothered to do it. We left shortly afterward and we were happy to pay $200 for a nearby Holiday Inn Express. Our overnight stay in Raton cost three hundred dollars including the "quality" Inn. We wouldn't stay at the Quality Inn in Raton if the owner paid us $300! read more

Our visit was going ok until we decided to have breakfast. We arrived 20 minutes until breakfast was over thinking we could grab a bite before getting on the road. This place was a mess. They were out of eggs and forks. I notified the front desk and the girl said more eggs were coming. She said there are spoons but we ran out of forks. (Wow!) 10 minutes went by and one of the workers started to gather up all the food trays that remained. Still no eggs. I asked what was going on and she said we don't have enough help. (Wow!) Needless to say we will not come back to this place. Avoid it as there are other places in Raton. The attitude was what was uncalled for by the management. Rates compared to other hotels in the area was reasonable. I liked that they were pet friendly and the hot breakfast was good. However, the room we stayed in was not cleaned properly. We kept smelling something sour and searched the room for the source. We found an old open BBQ sauce containers and food behind the beside table. The fridge still had food left from the prior occupant. To be honest, I'm not completly positive they changed the sheets on the beds after that. We awoke to very loud banging at 2 am, the front desk informed us it was due to the new washer and she was washing towels. The laundry room was about 8 doors down, so I can't imagine the poor people who had the room closest to the washer. When we informed the front desk of the room, we got a half hearted apology and the pet fee taken off. Very gross, and wouldn't recommend this place. read more

Not as bad as it could be, I suppose, but lots of maintenance needed in our room. Shower lever broke with first shower of the day so the rest had to take a bath. The handle that helps you out of the shower was about to come off the wall. Towel rack by sink fell off the wall, and the wooden kleenex holder below sink was wobbly. Beds were old, and I did find quite a few black hairs on the bed. Gross! read more

What a surprise!!!!! We were not planning on staying in Raton (though we have before) but a winter storm forced us to find a hotel room. SInce we only needed it for a quick sleep we didn't want to spend much money. Priceline surprsed us with a smoking queen. Quality Inn happily gave us a non-smoking king and a rollaway, even though they were very busy and full. The rollaway was in our room before we opened the door. The room itself was nice and toasty warm when we entered. The room was very clean as well as the bathroom. The shower had a turbo faucet, the water was hot and the towels weren't scratchy. I haven't even gotten to the best part!!!! Breakfast. They put out an excellent breakfast. Yes, there is a waffle bar. But, even better, they provide scrambled eggs and sausage, yogurt, cereal, donuts (not the yucky kind) and assorted juices. Protein is always hard to come by at hotel breakfast bars, but this had plenty. We saved $25 on having to go to a restaurant for breakfast. We will remember this on our next trip as we usually stay further up the road. No more! (Note to management, the door to the pool was propped wide open during our breakfast and the breakfast room is right next to it. If a toddler was walking around and not being supervised by a parent making waffles, you could have a disaster on your hands.) read more

I had no issues with this stay. The room was freshly remodeled and clean. Breakfast was on the good side. Breakfast area was clean. Rate was in the mid $70s, so no complaints there. Staff was great. WiFi is fiber optic and worked well. I am a choice elite diamond member, so I stay in at least 40 choice hotels per year (more like 60, but they don't have a level for 60) and this one was easily in the top 10%. I would love to see some high quality pillows but at this price level you are probably not going to get that. You would think by now I would remember to bring my own from home. read more

the service was nice & I love how they're pet friendly. but, the fact that they have no elevator is extremely inconvenient, especially if you had a lot of heavy luggage. also, several of the things in our room we're broken prior to our arrival. for example, 2 of the lamps didn't work & the door knob to the bathroom was hanging out of its socket. other than that, it was a decent hotel, if you're only staying there for one night. read more

In the past, I've stayed at the Quality Inn each time I've passed through Raton on my way to Colorado - not because its especially nice, but because its cheap and I refuse to pay a premium in Raton, NM. Welllllll ... Last Saturday I called at 5:30p to check availability, since I was headed Southeast through NM from Denver. Christie answered the phone and said yes, they had rooms available and would hold one with my credit card. Less than two hours later when I realized I wasn't going to make it all the way to Raton because of inclement weather at night on the pass, I called Christie back to let her know I couldn't make it. She said I couldn't cancel because it was, "after 4pm". I didn't even place the original hold until after 4pm! She suggested I contact manager James or owner Mr. Patel the following day and see if they would give me a refund. When I contacted Mr. Patel, he had an immediate attitude. He denied that he was the owner and said I couldn't get my money back. I held my tongue and told him I understood and was trying to come up with a solution that would be fair for both of us, and perhaps he could issue me a credit for next time? He said no! I asked him for the owner's name, and he yelled at me, told me I was being rude by asking too many questions, and hung up on me!! Who does that!? Well, Quality Inn. You have lost a repeat customer and you are receiving a crappy review, and all because your "manager" treats people like crap instead of offering an amicable solution. Folks, there are a lot of choices in Raton, NM. The Microtel is newer and cleaner, comparable in price, and literally right across the street. I urge you to not support an organization that employs a rude, hot-headed manager who, by the way, I'm pretty sure IS the owner. read more
