I purchased a used 2020 Club Cart from Quality Golf Carts in York, SC on Aug 24, 2024. The warranty and sticker price I was given states there is a 3-month warranty on the batteries, a 6-month warranty on the cart, and a 3-month warranty on the charger. Unfortunately, we have discovered this cart will not hold a charge and will only get 3 - 4 miles per charge. The batteries are from 2021. I took the cart to Quality Carts in Rock Hill on 09/04 for them to assess in which they stated they could not find anything wrong. On 09/06, I spoke to the owner who stated I could purchase 6 new batteries at his cost ($600.00) since they found nothing wrong on 09/04. The batteries were removed from the cart only to discover that 3 of the batteries were bulging on the sides and cracking/bulging around the post on the top. This was shown to the tech at Quality who stated this is normal, however a simple Google search indicates "No, batteries should not bulge: a swollen battery is a significant safety risk and should be replaced as soon as possible. A swollen battery is usually caused by too much current inside the battery cell, which can lead to a buildup of heat and gas. This can be due to a number of factors, including overcharging, deep discharge, manufacturing defects, or damage to the battery.
Additionally, the batteries were taken to a local car part dealer who stated the batteries were unsafe and were at risk of busting. The tech at Quality Golf Carts stated if they could only replace the batteries with used comparable batteries. The warranty does not imply the defective batteries will be replaced with used batteries. The attached warranty from Quality Golf Carts states there is a 3-month warranty. There is nothing stating pro-rated, comparable, or used however, the dealer did not replace the batteries instead he charged me 600.00 for a new set. I would like to dispute this charge as this business is not holding to the 3-month warranty. read more
