The Rug Shop

When they say "Modern and traditional" they literary mean it as there were rugs with cities on them to rugs with typical cashmere design, amazing! I'm pretty sure every single type of rug could be found here. However the shop isn't that big so if you wanted to fully roll out a rug it would have to be done on top of other rugs. The owner was really nice and helpful enough to answer all my curios questions about the rugs and the business. I think the only negative criticism I have about this shop is that they don't do delivery and I honestly thought I was going to fall and break a bone on the stairs. They were so narrow, fragile and crooked and the loose banister didn't help!

Persian Rug & Gift Centre

I first discovered the Persian Rug Centre about 8 years ago when I needed a new rug for a new house…read moreI'd moved into. Someone suggested 'the rug shop' in Selly Oak so I popped in on the off chance, I wouldn't go anywhere else now! This is not the cheapest place to buy a rug, in fact some of their prices are absolutely staggering, but the sheer quality and workmanship that has gone into each rug makes it well worth the money. You'll get your first taste of what to expect as soon as you look at the exterior of the shop, rugs are hung in the windows and also displayed outside in the drier months. The choice of rugs will draw you into the shop, and I defy you to walk away without buying anything! There is a good selection of modern and classically styled rugs, most with a definite Arabic design in a huge range of colours which will compliment any living room. The designs are stunning, some are simply patterned and others depict scenes from unknown books and texts. Absolutely beautiful. There are also a wide range of plain rugs from thick furry rugs to more basic woven works which are more towards the budget end of the range. I have bought seven or eight rugs from them over the years, both for myself and as gifts, and have never had cause to complain about anything. There are never any loose threads or bad stitching on any of the rugs and they are of the highest quality. I love the fact that there is such a wide range of sizes available as rugs are one of those things where one size definitely does not fit all, I had cause recently to look for a long thin rug for my mother in laws hallway and I found the perfect thing at the Persian Rug Centre whereas I have never before seen a rug with these very particular dimensions. You can expect to pay around £60 for the cheapest rug in here, which will probably be one of their plainer options, and prices will then rise according to the brand or thickness of the ruf you want to buy. I have seen rugs in here priced at £400 and £500, and these are absolutely stunning although just a bit over budget for me! The staff in the Persian Rug Centre are extremely knowledgeable about the rugs they sell, an Asian family who are always happy to chat to customers about the rug making traditions and will help you make an ideal purchase. I always feel that they are not forcing me into buying anything and on the odd occasion when I have not been able to make my mind up I have been urged to go away and think about it, a novelty these days as usually this kind of shop will keep you hanging around as they are so desperate for a sale! Next time I need a rug I will definitely be taking a trip to the Persian Rug Centre, I'm actually considering buying my sister a rug for Christmas as I'm sick of tripping over her tatty rag rug in the living room - I'm sure I can find something in this special little shop to suit her eclectic tastes!
McManus Carpets & Rugs
Mcmanus carpets and rugs is not far away from stoke park school…read more They sell some carpets, rugs and lots of other carpet accessories. They also offer a whipping service. Whipping is the binding of carpet or rug edges to ensure they do not fray. You sometimes see this kind of bound on car mats too. Talking of car mats mcmanus will also whip them too. So if you have some car mats that are in good condition but the edges are coming loose get them redone for a fraction of the cost of new mats. Last time i went in im sure they cost under £5 for the all edges to be done! Whipping can be done in literally any colour too, which is great for personalising them. The staff/owners are reall helpful to and friendly. They always seem to have work on. They also sell things like carpets spray glue and knee pads. So if you need a rug or your existing one bound then this is the place to come for a cheap way of repainring or adding style to them. Cheap and cheerful and easy to find! Parking is quite limited and hard though so your better off parking down a side street!

For me you can't call yourself a true Brummie until you have experience this place. An almost palace of cheap and cheerful shopping they stock pretty much everything from home ware, clothes, furniture, garden products, electrical, lights, toys and even sweets and food. Spread over 3 floors once inside you might struggle to escape. I visit quite often as they have a lot of cheap things I use around festival season and Christmas. It is well worth a visit and really you haven't lived until you've spent an hour here.

The place has EVERYTHING and it's all cheap as chips. There's so much that you can end up getting a little lost, without even knowing where to start. Some might prefer to go a little more upmarket, but I have no problem at all when you can kit out your whole flat and get change from a fiver (I exaggerate but you get my point). Even though it's cheap it's not all throwaway stuff, I bought some glasses there when I moved to my new apartment and the quality is pretty decent. As well as all the practical things you will need you can also find some very surreal and kitch decorative things. There are three floors dedicated to kitchenware, furniture, bedding, lighting and electrical goods, gardening equipment, tools, food and drink, cleaning products... see, everything! I recommend going by car or with a willingness to carry bags. And expect to leave there with a bunch of useless things you never intended to buy on your shopping trip (I still have the lenticular portrait of a tiger on my wall to this day).

I knew precisely the texture of carpet I wanted for my bedroom and the colour but couldn't find it anywhere. That's until I came to Abdullah & Sons. They have the largest selection of carpets, rugs and flooring that I've ever come across under one roof. They're always busy, which goes to show just how popular they are in the trade. The only problem with range is you're spoilt for choice but I can't complain about that! It just means it takes longer but Abdullah, the owner, is understanding. He offers samples of your favourite carpets to take home. They have carpet fitters, who can usually come as soon as the following day. Or delivery is available immediately!

However, I have only bought carpet from here but they have supplied and fitted all the carpets in my house. The prices are very competitive and the service is excellent. Recently I needed to carpet a very small room and I visited Kiddiminster Carpets as I knew they would be the people for the job. They advised that with the size of the room a remnant would probably be suitable. I was shown into a warehouse next to the showroom where roles and roles of large, leftover pieces of carpet are kept. The chap cheerfully and helpfully rolled out the carpets we were interested in so we could pick something suitable in colour and of the right size. Booking in fitting in was stress free and all the carpets have been fitted perfectly. Highly recommend.
