We met by the bathrooms of El Porto by lifeguard station 12 and picked up our wetsuits from their cars. From there, we headed towards a less crowded portion of the water by the rocks, and did a quick yoga flow before going into the basics of how to pop up and hold the board. After the lesson, we got assigned our boards and went off into the water. I think both instructors tried to spread their attention as evenly as possible. I was able to stand up multiple times and surf some one-foot waves (go me!). The time flew by, and once it was over, we brought the surfboards back to their cars. They'll take Venmo for tips. I would suggest wearing your flip flops to the beach since the ground was really hot, and also bringing a water bottle for post-surf. There's paid parking available in the lot although the meters seem to be broken since I still got a ticket even though my parking should've been valid. Otherwise there's very limited street parking. You can leave your valuables in the instructor's car. You can book private lessons on the website or small group lessons as well. Definitely book the lesson - it's a great workout and you'll have so much fun!

The sign up process was easy, so I did so online and locked it in! While my kids (8 and 9 years old) are very beginner surfers, they love the beach, and the laid back days and small group experience offered by Camp Surf was a prefect fit for both of them. We did not go in with high expectations to get them riding waves within days, so we were okay that there was not a ton of pressure to do so, but I imagine if you have expectations and kids interested in doing so, the Camp Surf staff will follow your guidance. Both of my girls got up on their boards their very first time surfing. They didn't even want to come in when the lesson was over even though it was pouring down rain. The lesson could not have been better. Aloha brothers provides wetsuits and boards as part of the lesson. The instructor, Taylor, was so kind and patient and made the lesson so fun that neither kid wanted to take a break during the 90-minute session. To put that into perspective, we had to walk three blocks with surfboards, and they required three breaks to make it through that experience. Both boys ended up being able to stand on the board and could not wait for their next lesson. My son struggles to keep doing something if it's difficult, but thanks to Taylor's encouragement, he kept failing and kept getting back up and trying again. We did a one day camp with Sunrise just to see if my son would like it. He is six, and I wasn't…read moreready to drop him off and leave him as he LOVES to run to the biggest wave. So I wanted to keep an extra set of eyes on him and ended up hanging around out of site so we wouldn't be distracted by me, but close by so I would feel comfortable knowing how he'd respond to the instructors. I think they were fine with me being even closer but I stayed a little further away so my child would really focus on them. Also, it was his first surf lesson so I didn't want to miss it! What I saw had me grinning the entire time. When my son wanted to push the limits and travel a little too far out where I was ready to run in after him, instructors were pulling the kids back. They had their eyes on him. And there was a dedicated staff member standing on the beach keeping their eyes on the entire group whenever they were in the water. And it was amazing to see my kid stand up on the board for the first time ever. And the way he jumped and kept going - it was clear he was SO happy the entire time. Not my kid, but there was clearly a little one who was not comfortable with the waves. I don't know the full story, but what I saw was an instructor holding that child the ENTIRE camp in the water. That kid got to be as close to the water as they were comfortable, the instructors never sat her aside to play in the sand, they were clearly trying to get her comfortable and making sure she had some water experience. Props to you all for investing in every child at every level. Props to the instructors, we hope to return if schedules allow this summer. The only request I have is to put kids in bright orange/yellow/green rash guards instead of the blue ones. It was easy to see the instructors in the orange, but I would feel better if we could REALLY see the kids from the sand in water safe colors. That's it - THANK YOU again for a great day. He helped them catch waves, he goes out there with them and sets them up for success. They had boards and wetsuits for the kids to wear if you don't have your own. The boards were in good condition and they have boogie boards as well. My youngest is just learning to boogie board so he was more comfortable with that and only going out with Brandon, which I'm totally fine with as long as he tries. My oldest was able to catch waves on his first day, Brandon really helps and gives one on one instruction. The kids were friendly and my kids had fun.

When school started I was tasked to plan a beach party to kick start the school year with some other families for the kindergarten class at our elementary school and I'm SO happy I broke away from the regular vendors that the school usually go to in the past. "Perfect Day Surf Camp" really did give us a SUCH A Perfect Day! The parents were happy to see a different group who brought in some new and fresh activities and the kids were happy that the activities were stuff that they could easily participate in! These are 5 year olds so it's no easy feat to keep them engaged but Perfect Day pulled it off! Most importantly, Robbie, the owner was AWESOME. She texts and emails - which I love because makes planning so much easier! PLUS, she was actually there to supervised and facilitate on the day of! The attending parents thought it was awesome too! Now I don't expect Robbie to be present at every event because her business was quite large. However we were really happy and grateful that the owner of the business was on site for our event because we knew things would get done right! There was some confusion , my fault for not reading the address listed on the contract clearly, about the meeting place on the day of the party however Robbie and her crew were on it! They quickly moved their stuff to our party site . It was just on the other side of the life guard tower, however they did have equipment and a tent already set up that they had to lug over so it wasn't easy but we so appreciate them for accommodating! Confirm the address with Robbie before the party! Don't be lame like me! Whomp Whomp!! Also! Have parents sign waivers before your party, but Robbie is a professional and actually brought waivers for all attending families to sign in person. Like I said she was on it and made things less stressful for us! So we've experience both with the surf camp and the beach party with Robbie and her crew and it's A+++++ all around! Highly Recommend! Not only did my kids have a total blast, but the camp is run like a well oiled machine. You can order pizza for your kids lunch online ahead of time so you don't have to make their lunches - and they'll LOVE you for it! You can order hats for your campers ahead of time too. And at the end of the week the moms get a free hat as well. Who doesn't love a freebie?! All the camp staff and counselors were kind, energetic and helpful with the kids. There's all kinds of fun things to do on the beach - not just surfing. They play all types of fun beach games . The counselors help the kids with everything. All the kids have to do is decide which fun things they want to do. It's all offered everyday. There's also plenty of shade if the kids need a break from the sun. The drop off and pick up was super smooth. Which is pretty impressive since it happens in the walk streets of Manhattan Beach where it can get pretty congested. But they have a staff member waiting to receive kids as they get dropped off. Then they inform the crew on the beach that your kids have arrived on a two-way radio and send the kids to the crew waiting on the beach. All very safe and smooth! This camp has clearly been operating long enough that they have it all figured out. But since it's run by moms, they have that certain attention to detail, only a mom would be able to do!
