He found the perfect spot for us where there was nobody else out, which made the whole experience relaxed and fun right from the start. Both of my girls got up on their boards their very first time surfing. They didn't even want to come in when the lesson was over even though it was pouring down rain. Nick was patient, encouraging, and just a really good time to be around. He made the whole experience easy and memorable for our family and took great care of us the entire session. After my son and his friend went pretty hard on the boogie boards, I knew it was time for them to give surfing a shot. As SoCal boys, it's a right of passage. The lesson could not have been better. Aloha brothers provides wetsuits and boards as part of the lesson. The instructor, Taylor, was so kind and patient and made the lesson so fun that neither kid wanted to take a break during the 90-minute session. To put that into perspective, we had to walk three blocks with surfboards, and they required three breaks to make it through that experience. Both boys ended up being able to stand on the board and could not wait for their next lesson. My son struggles to keep doing something if it's difficult, but thanks to Taylor's encouragement, he kept failing and kept getting back up and trying again. My first lesson was SO much fun!!! I can't wait to do another lesson and go surfing again! Overall this was an amazing experience and I learned a lot for just taking one class. We were given wetsuits and a surfboard, and then we went to the beach, where we learned how to stand up on the board, and the different parts of the surfboard. Then we went into the water and practiced on the breaking waves. The waves were not super huge, and we were in water that we could stand in so it wasn't that scary. My group took turns catching different waves, and practicing standing up. By the end of it, I was able to balance and stand-up!!! I highly recommend taking this class! I've had other sure lessons before but I absolutely loved working with this company! Summary- fast and quick communication, amazing instructor, free street parking (if you find a spot) Setting up the session - My friend and I scheduled a last minute private session and it was incredibly easy to book. Nick got in contact with me almost immediately after submitting a request online and walked me through the steps to have everything set and ready. Instructor- our surf instructor was Taylor and it was fantastic getting to work with him. My friend and I are both beginners and he made sure to address every question we had. Taylor took everything at our own individual pace, making the session feel that much more personalized (he even helped me get over my fear of waves, so huge thank you!) Parking- you'll be looking for street parking. I had no issue finding a spot almost immediately, but you never truly know with Venice. I suggest showing up a little early to give yourself some time to look for a spot. To the beach- you'll be walking from the meet up spot to the beach, but it's a short walk. This was honestly so much fun and worth every penny! I am the most not athletic person ever and I was honestly terrified of making a complete fool out of myself. Never touched a surfboard in my life. Everyone in my lesson was a complete beginner and were very nice so that was comforting. Sean was a great teacher. Very low pressure situation and just let us vibe out. I ended up standing a few times and I'm still so surprised with myself. Wetsuits and surfboards were provided, as were places to change afterwards I'd recommend to any newbies. We had a lesson with Jeff in Venice Beach, CA in June 2024. It was my first time surfing and my friend's second time (if a lesson from other non-professional surfer friends counts). Jeff knew so much about surfing and surf history; I feel like we learned a lot about how to properly and safely surf, but also about the great surfers around the world. He was extremely patient with us and adapted his teaching to our specific skills/needs as the lesson went on. We definitely improved over the course of the hour in the water and my friend even managed to stand up successfully a couple of times, which he couldn't do before. Overall, I would say it was a very rewarding and fun morning. If I lived in town, I would definitely be seeking lessons from Jeff consistently as I believe he could really turn someone from a complete newbie to a decent surfer. read more

I highly recommend for surf lessons in Venice Beach. They are highly responsive and friendly. My instructor was very helpful and patient as I'm a beginner. Not a lot of time on the beach and in the water for the majority of the lesson which is good. There is a walk to the beach so don't bring personal items. My 21 yr old brothers came from out of town and wanted to surf in the Pacific. I was searching yelp for a company for either a rental or a lesson and ultimately went with Aloha Brothers after my friend suggested them. I inquired online and Nick was ridiculously quick to touch base and so communicative. The process was extremely easy and relaxed. He also was very accommodating as I was trying to get the lesson the week of Christmas and a lot of the instructors were enjoying their holidays. You can pay ahead or the day of, they're very laid back. Address provided was easy to get to. The paid parking lot at the end of Washington is super convenient. First thing in the morning it is empty. I think it was $5 for the entire day. Since parking in Venice can get tricky, I would 100% suggest parking here. Come ready and in whatever you want to wear under your wetsuit. You meet in the street so there is no where to change (unless you want to walk to the public bathrooms and change in there, but trust me, you don't.) The lesson ended up being a private lesson with just my 2 brothers and 1 cousin. My brothers have surfed before, so I wasn't sure if they'd appreciate the lesson as much but Brian gave them tons of helpful tips and critiques to help them read the waves and improve their form. My brothers absolutely loved every second of it. My cousin had zero experience and is not very athletically inclined. She had a blast! Brian stayed with her the majority of the time because she needed more help and he was beyond amazing. He was so attentive and comfortable. She got up on her first try!! After the lesson Brian offered for my brothers to use his boards for the rest of the day ... for free! It was so cold that their feet were numb so they declined but we thought that was really kind. Nick followed up and thanked us for our patronage.... and for tipping Brian. I thought that was so unusual and gracious, but to me that says people don't tip properly, so don't forget to tip your instructor! These guys are so kind and clearly just lovers of life. I'm a city-girl through and through, but I had been surfing twice before, and I want to learn for real this time. Nick is awesome! What impressed me right away is that I called and left message, he called me back same day and I wasn't sure about availability so I told him I'd call him back. I called the next day and he answered the phone "Hey Maya!" Whaa? You saved my number? That is someone who understands that customers have a choice and ultimately we shop where we feel valued. Score! Then we got to the surf lesson. I'll admit, I was a little nervous and awkward cuz that's how I am....anyway, he made me feel very comfortable very quickly and that made such a difference in the water! More points! He was super encouraging, but not afraid to push me to do better and work harder. It's such a challenging balance to strike, but goodness gracious he knows what he's doing. He really has a passion for the sport and it comes through in his teaching. I probably caught between 10-15 waves! For the win!
