We went inside and while there were tables available, many were still dirty and stayed that way during the duration of our meal. Not a great look for the restaurant. We started the fancy fried pickles and chislic. The fried pickles were different with the prosciutto and mozzarella cheese, but we still enjoyed them. The chislic was tough/chewy and not as good as Thirsty's next door. My husband and I split the buffalo meatloaf. The meatloaf was dry, but I enjoyed the overall flavor. Overall, I was not impressed with this restaurant and was disappointed with service and how the meals were cooked at Murphy's. Colonial House Restaurant & Bar

This restaurant was one I found during a trip to Rapid City, SD and through YELP, so shout out to…read moreYELP. This is very much a diner style restaurant in the very best sense of the word, "DINER." The night I dined here, it was somewhat after the usual dinner rush, so the crowds were gone and the hostess led me to a corner booth near the back of the restaurant and handed me a menu. Like many diners you may have eaten at, the menu at COLONIAL HOUSE is huge. As I get older, huge menus are becoming more intimidating because they offer a large volume of selections that you have to choose from while a server is waiting (sometimes not all that patiently). That having been said, there is enough variety on the menu here that if you can't find something you'd like, you are probably a very picky eater. One surprise and also an intimidating one was the humongous portions that are delivered when your plate arrives. I knew immediately that I would not be able to finish the meal and resolved not to try and ask for a take-out box once I ate what I could finish. My dinner (what I managed to eat was excellent) and the server had no problem providing me with a take-out box. The food kept well in my hotel's room fridge and reheated well the next day for lunch. The baked products at COLONIAL HOUSE were a feast for the eyes and I ordered a piece of strawberry shortcake to take with me back to my hotel. Mouthwatering delight! If you are visiting Rapid City and want to completely SKIP over the far too numerous chain restaurants in the area and get far better food brought to you by servers who actually seem to like their jobs and the reputation of their employer, look no further than COLONIAL HOUSE. Just make sure you come with a completely empty stomach and a big appetite.

The service wasn't impressive, but everyone has off days so we will let that slide. Go for the baked goods!!

This BLAZE PIZZA location in RUSHMORE CROSSING shopping area in Rapid City, SD was the first one I…read moreever ate in and I was pleasantly surprised! BLAZE PIZZA offers customers personal sized pizzas with thin crusts and a fairly large list of possible toppings that include pepperoni, sausage, green and red peppers, onions, olives, chicken, meatballs, chopped beef and so on. The pies take about 5-7 minutes to make and are delivered to you on the spot for in house dining or takeout. As something of a NY metro are pizza snob, BLAZE PIZZA surprised me and I've eaten there more than once during my several trips to Rapid City, SD. It is definitely a viable alternative to the ABSOLUTE CRAP pizza found at such venues as Marco's Pizza and Pizza Ranch - the latter being absolutely vile pizza, if it can even be called that. If other BLAZE PIZZA locations provide similar quality personal pies, then this beats frozen grocery store pizza and most other so-called pizza chains in the area.

It may have also helped that we came during off hours (4-5pm). For all the fast casual burger joints that are out there, I got to say Freddy's is doing it right. This was the second Freddy's we tried on our recent road trip (we tried another one in Sioux Falls), and the food came out, hot, fresh and fast. I have to say, this is one of the better smash burgers in the fast food game, if not the best. I would put this place over shake shack (which may not be a high hurdle for some people). I also love that you have the option of tater tots or fries. TOTS FOR DAYS! And they crisp them up too, which is the way to go, no doubt. One final comment about this place - the dipping sauces. I love a good dipping sauce and Freddys had three to choose from - their original, smoky, or jalapeno. While they were all good, I thought smoky was the best. I even took some home to savor the flavor at another time. OVERALL - definitely dug this place. Perhaps we just hit it at the right time, but the food was on point. It looked like they were a little slow to clean up after some guests left, but a good number of people entered after we got there. I guess after all the great reviews I expected too much. It looked like a Chipotle (which I love), I ordered 3 soft tacos, but the flour tortillas were cold by the time they got to me, were not good at all and the fixings inside were bland.
