Saba is a very nice family-owned Persian restaurant in Moseley…read more Their menu is very reasonably priced, with incredibly large portions and really friendly management and staff! The Kebab Kobedah (ground lamb) is delicious, as are the many assorted starters served with naan bread- I especially enjoyed the mast o khyar (yoghurt with cucumber) and mirza qasemi (a smoked aubergine and garlic dish). If you fancy tea after your meal, they do a lovely Persian tea service. The tea is really strong! Great for large groups-- I highly recommend checking this place out if you're in Moseley, or looking for excellent home-cooked Persian food in Birmingham!

The lamb shank that came with my food was huge (I took the left overs home with me and got 2 extra meals out of it), so keep that in mind if that's what you're going to order. Although, the owner mentioned that he may be speaking to his butcher about getting smaller lamb shanks because it was a bit difficult to eat due to it's size. I was at a table with 6 people, who all got different dishes (all more reasonable sizes that the lamb shank), and not a single person was disappointed. We finished off the meal with some Persian tea, which the owner was kind enough to offer us free of charge (probably because we were a large group). Throughout the meal the server (who I think was also the owner) was extremely attentive, friendly, and helpful. I highly recommend Saba to anyone in Mosley! In fact, it's good enough that if you don't live in Mosley, it's really worth taking a trip to eat here.

It was quieter compared to Nandos... very very quiet, as there was only 4 customers having their dinner on one table only. So we took a chance and went in to try out this place before the movie. Parking is not a problem , there are place parkings pots on the streets and the big car park next door. Customer service I cannot really comment on that as there was no customers to see how they perform in pressure. So as we were the only second customers at the restaurant, we were nicely welcomed and offered any table to choose from, we decided to sit next to the window in the corner. Quickly decided our food and one quick starter dish. The starter arrived within 5 minutes of ordering our food, the waiter left the plate on the table and said enjoy and left. Now I was a bit curious at this stage as to how are we suppose to eat this dish, Mutabal I believe it was, there was no bread, or crackers or something to use that dip as a DIP. So curiously I enquired from the waiter and then he revealed that we suppose to eat it like that as it is, with the spoons Maybe, he said, "this is how we persians eat", he said. After listening to his justification I was just praying and hoping that the main dishes will be not a disappointment. Lamb shank with Herb rice and Lamb steak with saffron rice was delicious for me to try it first time. I cannot say anything about its authenticity as it was my first every try of persian version of these dishes. For me these two dishes was delicious or maybe because we were very very hungry as well. We enjoyed the main dishes, that we cleaned the plates quickly. The bill was double the price of what it would have costed at Nando's so a bit disappointed on the pricing, but what can say, they are sitting in the main busy central point to do business. Overall experience is not VERY VERY good, its okay for first time try, I would not go back here knowing the prices are a bit too much for my liking. And I would not recommend a friend about this place unless they accidentely went in to have quick bite only.

I was reluctant to eat here at first, but was glad when I received my food. I didn't like the interior décor of this establishment, it was unkempt and dark. There was a television on in the corner and not much else going on. The menu was clear and I decided to order falafel cooked in a Kurdish style Nan. The food was absolutely delicious, the Nan had sesame seeds on it and the falafel was accompanied by a tasty fresh salad. We ordered drinks and sometime later they took our orders, starters and mains. A little later we were directed to our table and staters served. I had the Chicken Tikka starter which was delicious, I ended up practically inhaling it. A jug of water was on the table throughout and we could order more drinks at anytime, staff will periodically walk past and observe your table to see if anything is needed to be taken away or to give you to opprtunity to ask for something. This is done discreetly, they don't interrupt you. We were largely served by what appeared to be either the manager or head waiter, based on how he directed other staff, makes sense, our group was the largest there, 11 people. He announced an 7-8 minute break before mains would be served, this helped as it gave us a chance to nip for a loo break or for some of our table to go for some "fresh air" outside. Mains were served, I had the Chicken Jalfrazi (sp?!) which was also gorgeous. It and the rice are served seperately and you arrange food onto your plate yourself. Any naans are served on little boxes which house candles for lightining on the table, we had just ordered a few of each type for the table alongside some veggie sides for the table as well, we all took what we wanted. Once mains were done, we were asked if we wanted desert, a popular desert was strongly pushed by the staff serving us, but I opted for vanilla ice cream, which was served with a light topping of chocolate sauce, it was also gorgeous. Overall a fantastic night, good food which came to aboutb £50 per head all in all.

The finest of Indian cuisine in its most modern form…read more Lasan has been a highly regarded part of the Birmingham restaurant scene for a long time now, after finally getting around to going I can see why. The place itself is nice and light with very simple, chunky decoration and furnishings throughout, it is all comfortable and doesn't distract from the eating experience although it probably is time for them to give the place a refresh, everything is getting a little tired in there. Food wise this place lives up to the hype. The ala carte menu (which unless you are in a big group you'll be eating from, this isn't a taster menu place), although not too long, was completely jam packed with food I wanted to eat making it was genuinely difficult to narrow down to just two dishes! I had a quail starter, complete with outrageously tasty quail scotch egg, which was beautifully cooked, gorgeously spiced, a real delight to eat. Main was venison, a loin and a small curry next to it which was an awesome meld of anglo-indian and again lit up my palette in all the right ways. They have a full bar here and the drinks are quite well priced for a high end fine dining restaurant, a bottle of wine starts at around £25. The staff were good, they answered my questions and gave recommendations and made sure that my glass was always full but didn't get in the way of the food, which is the perfect type of service for me. Prices are also very reasonable considering that this is one of the best places in the city, going ala carte gives the flexibility to suit most budgets, although it is by no means cheap. Although I've lived in the Jewellery Quarter for a good 7 years but hadn't ever visited due to the whispers I had heard regarding the high prices. Well, on receiving an invite to the winter banquet (a three course meal for £19.95), I had my tastebuds primed and ready to give it a go. To give you a bit of background, Lasan has been around since 2002 but due to the steady increase in the number of awards it has received over the years (British curry awards, Gordon Ramsay's 'F Word - Best Local restaurant' and BBC's 'Great British Menu') it has gained a reputation to impress. The venue itself is just off St Paul's Square, so very easy to get to from the City. There is no parking available, but street parking is plentiful around the area. The restaurant itself is classy and intimate. On a Sunday lunchtime at 1:30, you would still struggle to get a table if you hadn't booked. We enjoyed a lovely bottle of Malbec (shared between 4) for £24 whilst our starters were bought out. Between succulent pieces of meat, fish and delicious vegetable sides; we got a chance to try everything. The Salmon was truly amazing. The mains were also impressive with a chicken dish, a mutton curry, a fish curry, aromatic rice and fresh naan. The meal was rounded off with 'Gulab Jamoon Aur Rabri' (Warm Khoya roundels with North Indian cardamom scented custard). I hadn't tried this before, but would love to have it again! The food, the wine, the company and the setting were perfect. £19.95 was a very reasonable price to pay, but I would recommend you give it a go now. The normal banquet price starts at £30.95!
